Mario Kart 8 : new trailer

Sounds like there's no voicechat at all in the game, which is frustrating. I can understand Nintendo not wanting to offer it in random matches given they're quite safety-conscious about their young audience, but it'd be great to have in matches against friends where the back-and-forth is part of the fun.

You could use Skype on your phone or something.

Personally I'm in the camp where I'm not gonna get all hyped about another Mario Kart until they roll back the changes they made to drifting with Mario Kart Wii. It's practically a luck-based racing game at this point.

Always good to see Nintendo characters in HD though!

If I recall correctly, the change was to stop snaking.

that would be unfortunate. not the biggest deal to me for random matches because I'll mute them anyway but if there's not a way to have voice chat for friends list racing that would suck

Mario Kart Wii if you could wheelie you can win every round. Even if i gave my friends 20 sec headstart or half a lap headstart i would still win even if i get a blue shell on my head. I agree with you on mario kart 7 though i usually can get top 3 but thanks to blue shell still a gamble which of the high spots i will take..

How can this game look so damn good ? It's crazy.

The change in drifting in MK Wii was for the absolute best.

Snaking isn't a natural skill. It's a robotic one. I don't need to face a bunch of robots online, thanks. Pretty much killed MKDS for me.

If you want to be good at MK you can find other ways to improve, not use a trick that throws the entire balance of the game off.

Nintendo is obviously trying to make Mario Kart a balanced experience and I applaud them. They nerfed bikes and improved recovery time from items, for example.

The positive side is that there are leaderboards, something that was oddly missing in Mario Kart 7 with only a strange curb displayed and random ghosts. Mario Kart Wii remains superior in that aspect.

I've only played Mario Kart 64 and 7 and found the speed in 7 to be very slow (even in 150cc). It looks like the speed once again is not as fast as MK64. Any reason for lowering it?

Mario Kart 64 is fast? (at least compared to the others) I never noticed it.

Do we know details regarding the battle modes? I'm still hoping we can come close to MK64's offering. Give us Double Deck!

Honestly I don't mind not having voice chat with randoms. I've had far to many negative experiences in to many games to ever think there is any type positive out of doing that. Now voice chat for friends, even if you had some kind of verification system since it's so easy to add people you don't know in real life, is something Nintendo should have. They have a damn video chat system as apart of the OS. There should be something that allows friends to talk to each other in game or simply over the system when they're doing other stuff. If you don't want random people talking to each other then that's fine but that should be it.

The shit was like Extreme G compared to Mario Kart 7. In 7 you actually have time to enjoy the visuals.

Maybe I'll have to go back to 64 (been years) but I never felt Mario Kart 7 was that slow. All the games 'feel' roughly the same. They could all do with another tier or two of faster classes, but Mario Kart isn't really about speed so I'm not too bothered about it.

Considering the kind of stuff that come out of my mouth during the average session of MK7 I think that it may be for the best that there's no voice chat, at least in the interest of preserving friendships :{

It sucks, but we just gotta deal with it.

If it's that much of a concern, just use a voice chat program.

Maybe MK8 needs all the power the Wii U has. No room for voice chat. :P

Seriously, I am fine with no voice chat. It sucks cause it was fine in MH3u. is that the only game with voice chat?

Call of Duty games at the minimum have it. NSFMWU also I believe. Not sure about other games.

As others have said, I'd be fine with no voice chat between randoms, but you should absolutely be able to form a "party" with friends and chat with them. Silly Nintendo. Not the end of the world though. Skype exists.

Never cared for voice chat. I prefer to play the game where I'm not getting screamed at by some asshole that still lives with his parents.

Sure, but it'd be nice to have voice chat for playing with friends or people in your community (assuming that feature is in MK8 like it was in 7). It's far from a deal breaker, but it'd be nice to have.

Any chance Wario Colosseum is one of the remaining retro tracks? Not too pleased with the GC representation yet.

My guess is one more GC track will make it, as there are two already (Dry Dry Desert and Sherbet Land, both of which I love). I would ecstatic if we got Wario Colosseum.

Hope double cherry is an item! Maybe if one of your clones gets hit by an item or knocked into by another racer, you can keep on driving as the unaffected clone (and the crash animation plays out for your affected clone then pops into a cloud of smoke and vanishes -- which other players behind you will get to see).

Also a cool mode would be a local play 10-20-lap endurance run, with pitstops added to one or more parts of the track, in which you drive where Toad takes about 10 seconds to service your vehicle. The more you go off road, get hit by items and other karts etc, the more you will need to pit stop.

^ Why? I think it's really cool.

Of course there will be SOME Wii tracks. I wouldn't mind Bowser's Castle from MK Wii.

Some? what do you mean by "some"?
If Sherbet Land is indeed a retro course, both Wii and GCN have 2 retro tracks each, leaving one unkown track left.
I'm just saying Wii has a higher chance to get the last retro track than GCN.

I'm guessing this'll happen in the Direct that's bound to happen at the end of the month. Along with other modes getting detailed and the new Rainbow Road/Bowser's Castle getting shown off.

I really hope Mission Mode returns and is expanded on. Maybe take some notes from Challenge Mode in NSMBU.
