Mario Kart Switch?: King Boo make his returns.

Hmm... Hopefully it has at least some new tracks. That would make it easier for me to justify buying the game a second time.

Being able to carry two items at a time is interesting, though... I wonder how that will affect the "item balance".

I think new tracks are pretty much a guarantee. The question is will it be two cups like a DLC pack or will it be four cups?

The intro to the course it literally the same as MK8, font/symbols and all.

I'm going with enhanced port. I don't think a proof of concept would show a new character and a different item system unless it showed off how it worked.

Man, I don't get why Nintendo keeps persisting with that ugly King Boo design. The one used in the Luigi's Mansion games is much cooler.

Could be worse I guess...

King Boo has no consistency!

All the MK8 content + 4 new cups seem reasonable, no? I mean, the MK8 DLC took a year to complete which included 16 new tracks, 4 new characters and 8 new vehicles.

By the time Switch is released (and if the port is a launch title) it's going to be 2 years since the last DLC for MK8 so the same amount of new tracks for the port (16) isn't that far fetched.
Not quite the amount you would expect from a brand new Mario Kart game but also nothing to sneeze at.

Would be awesome. 64 tracks in a single game.

An improved version of MK8 is definitely the best case scenario for any future Mario Kart, so I'm pretty pleased about this. Hopefully the new additions are pretty substantial (at least on the scale of the 8 cups added in MK8 DLC) and hopefully little, if any content from the original gets left behind (except the subpar battle mode I guess, for those who care about that). I just hope they really know what they're doing with the two item thing and that it's not just being carelessly thrown in as a gimmick to make the game seem fresher (although I doubt this would be the case).

Mario Kart 8 is such a prefect game that just upgrading it for new platforms and adding new content forever would be the best thing Nintendo could do imo.

This was a welcomed surprise to say the least. Disregarding the Wii Us fortunes, as a piece of software, Mario Kart 8 definitely deserved a larger audience. So I'm very glad that something presumably is planned.

4 cups, not 8.

Ah, right, for some reason I was thinking each DLC had two setsof two cups. Maybe 8 new cups is a bit much to expect than? I dunno, it's been long enough that I'd think there'd be time for that? I dunno, MK8 is so good that however many tracks there end up being, I can't complain too much.

I'd love to do a trade.

Put King Boo back in and toss Daisy and Waluigi in the trash where they belong.

Honestly, the three new games we saw today look more like they're still relatively early in development... I wouldn't be surprised if this was intended to be a sequel but was temporarily using MK8 assets.

MK8 will be three years old by the time this comes out, so I'd think it's about time for Mario Kart 9, don't you?

Without more tracks it's a waste of time.
The games doesn't need more characters. Racing games live and die by tracks. Characters are just skins at this point

It's literally the same Boo but with a lighting difference....

No it isn't. The crown and face are different. That darkness around his eyes isn't from the lighting.

For whatever reason, for spin off games, Nintendo uses the Super Mario 64DS version of King Boo (even though the LM design is older)

You guys realize this could be a prototype and an actual Mario Kart could be a couple of years away and look different, right?

If that scenario winds up being the case, I'd only have one question to Ninty....

"What have ya got to show over the next six months and for launch, impress me Ninty!"

The thing is... we're less than 6 months away from release. I doubt Nintendo would flash prototypes to get us excited when they should have at least a dozen launch window games very near completion. This was the Wii U's problem and I expect Nintendo has learned from that mistake.

I hope it's possible that we don't need to pay full price for this port especially if we already own the original. Street fighter 4 didn't charge full price for their updates I believe.

That's not how it ever works. This is a different machine with different amenities. The game also is hinting at more content.

Its just frustrating how if you want to stay up to date you have to re buy games on new consoles. Expecially digital stuff. I dont have to re buy my steam library when i get a new PC.

What if it's explicitly marketed as a sequel, despite using the same or similar assets? Think like Majora's Mask. Do you think 'upgrading' should be discounted or free then?

Imagine being a sports fan and buying yearly sequels for roster changes and slight "dlc like" upgrades.

I think it needs to appeal to two groups. Those who already bought it on Wii U, ie. those who would have purchased it regardless and are looking for something to spice up what they've essentially already played, and the new consumers that Switch will bring in. The latter is easy, as it's an amazing game already. The only reason it sold relatively low for the Mario Kart franchise was because of the hardware sales. So it makes perfect sense that they'd plan a re-release of this (and tbh, they should re-release most of the Wii U library for that same reason, as it'll help cover a launch draught inbetween original titles). But yeah, in order to appeal to the first group you need new tracks, or modes, or mechanics, something that will bring us back. The easiest bait (for me at least) would be to double down on making original and returning battle mode tracks, and throw in a new GP cup or two. You're right in a sense that, the way they've made the weight classes, they are on the surface just reskins whenever they add another (although if memory serves me correctly, some of the DLC characters were unique in their stat weighting), but I don't think any of that matters tbh.. everyone has their favourites, and I think it'll still go a long way to feeling like they've added additional content if they throw us some of the characters we've been asking for.

It wouldn't be the first time they do this either, nor the second even, but it doesn't mean there's nothing, for one Skyrim isn't even confirmed and there it was.

Drives me nuts too, although I believe that version first showed up in Double Dash?

This is what I'm hoping the most for! I'd like enough content to justify my buying MK8 (a great fucking game) a second time. If they decide to support it more after launch even better! Same for splatoon! I'd totally buy MK8.4 if 8.4 had the promise of another wave or two of mk8 dlc

Mario Kart 8 is one of the best-playing, best-looking and best-sounding Nintendo games ever

One of my top wishes for NX was an enhanced version with more content, more features, etc.

I'M SO HAPPY.

lol what? why wouldn't you just wish for a sequel instead?

Because I don't want to lose all of the tracks and characters I love and start over from scratch, especially when MK8's gameplay is perfect as is. I'd rather they use MK8 as a foundation and build on it like the DLC built on it.
