Mario Kart Wii 2007 in Europe? Interview Nintendo Germany

I think Nintendo is hoping that by next year Third Parties will be fully on board and they'll provide the games for the hardcore.

Yup. E3 should be the first wave of "big" announcements for the Wii, with the TGS as the second wave.

I dont know, maybe there will be announcements, but i dont think that a lot of projects are ready to be shown at E3. I think TGS will be much more interesting in terms of gameplay footage.

Won't be released or fully developed till the online network is tested by a bunch of games first, coz Mario Kart Online will NEED to be rock solid and amazing. That's what I hope, anyway.

I have nightmares about this game. Super Mario Kart is still my favorite game ever and it seems that each console iteration gets worse. I am really worried you'll use the 'chuck to steer while pointing at the screen with the Wiimote to shoot weapons. I do not want this. I'd like them to go super old school with this, using just a sideways Wiimote to control, but that doesn't seem possible without shoulder buttons.

We know the game is coming sooner rather than later but I am cringing already. Please, Nintendo, don't screw up another MK.

Sure it does. Tilt to steer, D-pad up for acceleration, down for brake, 2 for jump, and 1 for item.

Or, better yet, tilt to steer, pull back to jump (or press the B trigger, possibly), 2 for gas, 1 for brake, and have the ability to hold up to four items, mapped to the D-pad.

Of course, these are just off the top of my head.

I just thought I should say that I liked Double Dash. Me and my buddy play that all the time, and we always have a blast. Get 4 people together on the same machine, and you got yourselves a kickin' good time.

Agreed, the game gets way too much hate. The controls are a little loose (I never noticed it until after I played Mario Kart DS), but it looked nice and was really fun. I also loved the 2 players per kart mechanic.

Hmm..kinda doubtful..
The release schedule had it for the second half of next year..

This year they are too busy with Galaxy, Prime and Brawl....

But who knows..E3 is next month anyway.. :)
you honestly think that all of those games will make it out in europe this year? seriously, i bet u that nintendo already made this game to throw europe a bone.

I hope you have the option to steer with the nunchuk & accelerate with the wiimote. I'm guessing the Wiimote will be used as a "point & shoot" device for powerups.

This is exactly what it should be. Anything else and I unleash hell.

I don't think I want tilt steering in my Mario Kart. I'm a huge fan of Excite Truck, but the controls were more about crazy fun than precise steering. I think that MK is at its best when the driving takes center stage. With tilt controls, I think it will be another MK64 luckfest, and I want no part of that.

Mario Kart DD wasnt that bad. after seeing reviews and hearing people bitch about it, my friend bought it and ever since I played Ive enjoyed the game. I honestly dont see ewhats so bad about it. And I have the N64 Mario Kart to compare it to, but Im still enjoying BOTH games and probably DD a bit more for some of its modes.

It was the worst Mario Kart ever made. Maybe "not bad" is good enough for you, but I expect some semblance for fun in a Mario Kart title. It had the most bland, boring tracks I have ever seen in a Nintendo title.

I don't understand. Do you want to use the D-pad for steering? If so, I don't see why you would want a Wii version. Just play MKDS.

Sounds like what you want is Classic Controller usage.

Okay... I thought it had some of the best tracks in any Mario Kart. Like Yoshi's Island, the Bowser Castle track where you have to slide jump over the lava, the Donkey Kong track, Daisy's boat... The racing itself was a little boring (not sure why... maybe the items or the controls), but I loved the tracks. The multiplayer tracks weren't very good, though.

I rather liked Baby Park, actually... yes, it was "bland", but it also had a nice sense of insanity that I hadn't experienced in the other games.

Just stop making Mario Kart games. I know some idiots are still buying them but they suck.

"Some" idiots, eh?

Guess you haven't seen MKDS sales.

P.S. Stop letting nostalgia bang you in the ass. MKDS is better than SMK in every possibly way.

I highly disagree.

MKDD was great. I think the series (just about) gets better with every single edition.

The level design in DD was fantastic. The Double Dash feature was AWESOME for multiplayer. In singleplayer, it didn't really change the gameplay much at all, which is fine. But for multiplayer races, playing with two people on one kart was SO much fun. I'm hoping MK Wii has a Double Dash FEATURE (not the focus of the game though, which should stay normal).

My one problem with DD is that the battle mode sucked. The stages were bland.

Thankfully, MKDS made up for this with the best battle mode yet.

For me: DS > SC > DD > 64 > SMK.

I really think that as great as SMK was, only nostalgia could make someone say it's the only good one. And to say MKDS sucks is just ridiculous.

omg rite, I agree with your opinion on on the order of quailty. Well, except for MK:SC since I never played it.

Yes MK: DD had some boring battlemode, but the game was not bad.

OK I listened to the podcast and the Nintendo guy says both Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 are on the release list for this year in Europe. He says MP3 is definetly coming this year. Would be nice but I won't get my hopes up until I see it on an official release list with a set release date.

He does say MK Wii may come this year if we are lucky and that we may hear more about that on E3 but nothing more really.

Other news, there will be a Mario Strikers Online Cup with prizes to win. Which prizes will be revealed at a later time.

Nintendo homepage (I guess european one but they only talked about the german homepage in particular) sees a revision soon and they will update the star catalogue (star points for Wii points maybe?).

Next week a special about the NES.

If I remember correctly, Super Monkey Ball uses this exact setup down to the 4 items mapped to D-pad. Besides being a bit unforgiving when you mess up, it's my favorite mini-game on SMB (the snowboarding game was fun but not as deep).

Mario Kart DS put me in MK Bliss. I cant play any of the other MK because its just too good.

MK Wii would have to be phenomenal for me to get it.

Are you driving the Super Smash Bros Brawl bandwagon of hatred? Not every game needs motion controls.

Since Super Mario Kart is my favorite by quite a wide margin I don't think I have anything constructive to say to you about MK.

If this was Laurent maybe I'd have believed it.

I can only assume much of this is dependent on Nintendo of America, if he can say that Metroid is definitely coming this year, and then say wait until E3 for another announcement (headed up by NoA typically) then I would assume it is out of his control.

Nintendo Europe's homepage has been in the works according to another GAFer, it's nearly finished apparently. A product of NoE's marketing monies.. apparently it's going to be a huge step forward.

I like that he puts his reputation on Metroid, because I will hold him to that until the game gets released here. Galaxy and Brawl being 'on the release' list means nothing though.. I could say Duke Nukem is on the release list for 2007.. doesn't tie you to anything you've said.

Mario Kart Wii to be at E3 then.

How about MARIO KART ARCADE GP 2!!

Anyone else find the commentators voice really loud when it goes like "YOSHI IS IN THE LEAD" right behind your ears.

Only two people have ever played that game.

Okay, sarcasm ahoy. I don't get this. Either you mean only the people in that shot (me and my cousin) have played it. Or... something else...

How about wiimote and nunchuck. Steering with the analog, sliding with tilting the nunchuck (ala SSX Blur), accelerate and brake with C and Z, that leaves the wiimote for items. Hold down B to arm the item and swing the wiimote to hurl it at your opponents.

With a little practice it could be quite fun. Imagine all the creative items you could make to use with the wiimote.

ANYWAY, The German rep obviously was either miss quoted or was plain wrong, he's not talking about Mario Kart but instead Mario Galaxy in case you can't tell.

How does the game play in comparison to the first outing?

Erm, havn't played the first one.

However, from what I recall a lot of the tracks are the same (from the screenies ive seen from the first one). So i guess the changes are just the tracks + addition of new characters - was Tamogotchi in the first one? He's in this.

I don't think WiiMote and NunChuck would work that well. Esp. after ET proved that the sideways set-up does indeed work very well for an arcade racer.

He is not misquoted. He says "Wenn ich mir das release schedule (editor's note: denglish ftl) so anschaue dann steht da MP3, SMG und mit ein bisschen Glück kommt dieses Jahr auch noch MK."

Translation: "Taking a look at the release schedule, there are MP3, SMG and with a bit of luck MK is coming this year as well."

He is clearly referring to MK and is not mixing up MK and SMG. Where did you get the idea?

You're welcome. I want to believe but yeah it's not even the general marketing manager of nintendo germany Dr. Fakesch but just the assistant general manager. I definetly take this with a grain of salt.

He didn't mention Brawl, only SMG and MP3. It doesn't mean a whole lot but at least they seem to be aware that those titles could be decent sellers ;).

Does anybody else think that he might have meant Mario Galaxy and said Mario Kart by accident?
Hopefully so, as porting the arcade Mario Kart to Wii instead of getting a real EAD MK would be an awefull decision.
I'd almost rather play Bomberman Kart. :-/

What about power-drifting?

This bolded one is not surprising. It comes out in august in the US.

Well, I know it's no reason, but.
