Mario Strikers Charged IGN review

Soccer requires alot of strategy like any other sport. Football does require the most, but thats not to discredit any other sport.

Unlike American football, soccer requires that players improvise and think on their feet rather than rely on silly play charts.

STFU about this stupid shit already. Both sports suck almost as much as their fans. I also heard arguing about which is the least shitty on the internet makes your penis shrink. So yeah...what was this topic about again?:lol

it's strange, this preview talks about the exact same things as the IGN review, only in this case, it's all shed in a negative light. For example, online is instantly compared to XBL and how it doesn't offer the same interactivity because of lack of voice communication, and they complain about the fact that it's merely "an update" to an existing franchise, rather than seeing it as a refined game...

Didn't see a thread specially devoted to the game itself, and can't make threads yet, so posted here.

The game's already out in certain stores, I picked it up this afternoon. It KICKS ASS.

Some things:

-Waluigi's crotch chop is still in, and he can sometimes DO IT WITH HIS ENTIRE TEAM.
-Petey Piranha limbo dances.
-MegaStrikes are blocked extremely easy if you've got fast eyes.
-Online matches are best of 3 against strangers. Didn't play any friends yet. As said, you get points for both winning and losing (Points are calculated by the goals scored, goals conceded, and if you won/lost). In best of 3 matches, you get points for all of the matches (Not just the overall result of all 2 or 3). I got around 16 for each win. If you disconnect you lose 5 points.
-Music kicks just as much ass as all reviewers are saying it does.
 
More impressions please. Is the game worth its money?
Sound awesome so far. How are online games? is there much lag?

8.7 is astonishingly high. I don't give anything about IGN and I have the game pre-ordered, but I really thought the gaming press would review it with low 7s or something.


edit: ah wait, IGN UK? alright, that explains that. They actually understand the sport. :D

I played like 5 matches, and each time I connected to the same person, heh. After that I stopped. Before each match, you can see what the opponent's connection quality is (Out of 4 stars), so if you've got a laggy opponent, you can cancel out. Didn't notice much lag during gameplay myself, though it did lag a very tiny bit during MegaStrikes. Also, disconnecting before the match even starts ALSO makes you lose points. So if you accept the connection quality, DON'T DISCONNECT.

One annoying thing is that when playing against strangers, the game randomly picks the stadium you play in. So you could be stuck with an extremely annoying one.

Also annoying is that before a match, the Home player gets to pick their characters first. And you can't have the same Captain, so if they pick your favourite, well, you've got to pick another.

Hoping that somebody I know gets the game soon, so I can check out Friends - I'm sure that's customizable (Like in Metroid Prime: Hunters).

I got mine online - figured the £10 difference and effort of going into town on a Friday wasn't worth it.


I'd rather watch American Football, but I'd rather play Soccer (RL and VG). Ice hockey destroys them both though really - can't wait to watch HD broadcasts of that in future.
 
The 'no voice in online play' thing; is that only in the 'I'm playing a stranger' mode, or does that mean no communication even with the people on your friends list?

Only played strangers, but there was no communication there. I could tell the person I was playing was pissed though, I beat her (I assume, he/she used Daisy) every match and every time she started playing more aggressively :lol

Has the season started yet? Can you see the leaderboards?
 
Yup, season's started. I think last time I checked I was already at 5th place (With only about 60 points!). The first guy's insane though, he already has like 180.

You can also view Daily and Friends leaderboards. I was Striker of the Day for a fair while!
 
Hm it will be insanely hard to be first or striker of the day but it sounds damn addictive and great. Looks like I will have to buy this this week :)

According to WFC Status the top player has 58 log ins and at today's peak there were 4 people playing!!

I think that playing at midnight to be striker of the day to get that breif moment of glory would be fun - or is it a rolling 24 hour period?
