Mark Cerny: "PS4 most powerful console ever created." Teases tremendous evolution.

Knack doesn't *need* 60fps the way FPS and driving games need it.

What? :/ How many character action games work better at 60fps?

Regardless, this was an insightful interview. I do wonder where the industry is heading especially with the comments made. Cerny's duties pre and during launch sound hectic though, not sure how he manages to keep up. System architect and director of a game seems like so much. Can't even begin to imagine his workload.

But yes, two weeks away for me (less than a week for all of you in NA). Exciting times.

Great interview, perfect length.

He definitely wants to get back working on games fulltime again now that he's done with the hardware and Knack, hopefully we'll hear about his next game next year.

Why is it odd? This is video games. Since when has power become irrelevant?

Who said it's irrelevant?
It's just a redundant remark. Of course if the PS4 is the most powerful of the new consoles, that makes it also the most powerful ever created so far. At least if you refuse to acknowledge the PC as a gaming platform (which companies usually do).

"BREAKING NEWS, NEW CONSOLES ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PREVIOUS ONES!".
But of course it's easy to see why they are stressing that point. It's technically true (which helps) and it sounds good as a marketing slogan.

Many consoles have been the most powerful consoles ever created when they were released, it's kind of odd thing to say...

Last gen it was hard to say which one was more powerful. This time the gulf is so huge that they get to actually say it because there is no way that MS will dispute that. Instead, they'll downplay the importance of raw power.

At this point they're just doing it to kick Microsoft in the balls.

Most consoles fitting this description have proudly proclaimed they are the most powerful console ever created. Seriously, happens almost every time. If anything it's predictable!

Yet funnily enough, iirc, I don't think Microsoft have said the same thing.

What does 'that' mean?

As a home console that can identify a lot closer to a PC spec. Yes. 60fps will be the new standard. Something only every cut and paste call of duty has been able to do and very few others.

I expect by end of life we will have 30 fps (vsync'd) at 720p upscaled to 1080p (which is why the resolution debates are just silly). But it'll look fucking insane.

When I saw 17 minutes I seriously fanboy'd. I watched all his GDC talks. He's ... magical?

Not magical, but hearing someone talking about stuff he actually knows about and being so distant from PR is just heartwarmingly refreshing

I didn't know him before February and I am happy that Sony is giving him such a huge opportunity with the PS4

They've been pretty good about not laying on the hyperbole thus far. Don't start now Cerny.
He already said several times that the PS4 is the most power console. Even during his speech at the PS4 february event.
It simply IS the most powerful console of next-gen. Nothing wrong here.

Neither did I and I'm ashamed by it. He was involved with most of my favorite PlayStation games of all time. The fact that he's also the lead architect for the PS4 just makes him even more awesome. He's now one of my favorite gaming personalities ever.

Same here, buddy.
Marble Madness, Crash, Jak, Uncharted, etc.
