mark cerny sony steve jobs?

Mark is a venerable legend in the industry, but he shouldn't be compared to Jobs. And the people discrediting him should be embarrassed.

Trust me. We're not, nor should we have to hop on the bandwagon if we never knew shit about the guy to begin with.

Everyone pulls up his resume of information, but it's the same as doing a quick wiki scan of some music artist you just heard on Pandora and acting like he's always been a star.

Barely knew who Mark was before the conference simple as that.

There are still people who game that doesn't even know who Miyamoto is.

GAF has been kind of embarrassing lately

This can not be said enough. So many mole hills touch the clouds these days.

But to the OP: No, not even close. Love him or hate him Steve Jobs was a visionary who changed the tech playing field. Maybe it was getting to work closely with an another icon like Nolan Buchnell at a young age or maybe being buddies with the wizard Steve Wazniak(Though we can all assume it was all the LSD jobs did on his "trip" to india). This guy took the PC/Mobile market from one direction and sent them both in a completely different way. All the while pushing heavy influence on both the physical and UI design of ALL electronics.

Mark Cerny, has excellent game dev credits (including some of my all time favorites) and looks to have designed a excellent home console. While very admirable... I see no comparison at all.

About that Cerny has always been a star, i'm not sure if that is what people mean. I think they're only referring to what his accomplishments has been. Generally speaking, a person's accomplishment is just the same even if someone have known about it for 10 years or 1 hour. For example, Miyamoto's accomplishments are the same for those who have known his name since the NES/Famicom days compared to those who just have learned his name and what he have done. What people think is impressive is of course quite subjective however.

No. I'm not a huge Jobs fan, but go watch the first iPhone reveal on YouTube. You will get hyped, even though the product came out 6 years ago.

Even on GAF, most people were initially indifferent to Cerny until they learned more about him.

When Cerny will change the computer market, explose the mobile market, create a new market with tablets, and the music market...
yes maybe.. until then... absolutely not!
