Mark of the Ninja DLC Announced

Klei Entertainment has announced that Mark of the Ninja will receive new Special Edition downloadable content on Steam and Xbox Live Arcade this summer. The content will include a new level “set in a flashback to the early life of Dosan (the enlightened tattoo artist) that will set the stage for the events that transpire in Mark of the Ninja.”

Players will also be able to utilize a new nonlethal takedown ability, plus two new items -- “one more geared to stealth and concealment and one a bit more direct.” The game will also receive developer commentary, which will “discuss various aspects of the game's creation, anecdotes, at least two history lessons and other behind the scenes info from nearly everyone on the team.” The commentary will be available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese.

Klei noted that “for anyone who has already played Mark of the Ninja, we're hoping the Special Edition will give them a reason to revisit the game with both new challenges and insights, much as you'd watch the director's commentary of one of your favorite movies.”

No price or release date has been announced for the Special Edition, but players can get their first look at the content at PAX East in Klei’s booth.

Seems a LITTLE late, but rad nonetheless. The only stealth game worth playing this gen. Certainly better than anything coming out of Kojipro or Ubisoft in terms of stealth.

havent read the full op yet, but no matter what the dlc is: i will buy it.

fantastic game and one of the best stealth games ever made.

Best stealth game ever made.

Nuff said.

It's crazy how I could have easily missed this game.

I had no idea it even existed until the Giant Bomb QL, and even after that I only kinda wanted it, but had to buy it when it was down for $5

Probably one of my favorite games of all time. I'm now working on doing getting everything in every stage.

By the time I got all the steam achievements, I was kind of done with mark of the ninja. It's fantastic but I'm certainly burned out with the mechanics at hand. Maybe this DLC will reinvigorate me once I see a video or something.

I thought I'd be more excited about this as I love MotN, but the DLC sounds kind of underwhelming. There's not really much content, it seems like, and the new non-lethal takedown sounds like it might actually dilute a lot of the challenge of a no-kill playthrough.

I'll probably still buy for the commentary.

As a huge stealth fan I was pretty disappointed with this.
somehow mark of the ninja is not able to give me what I expect from stealth games.

Hell, fucking, yes.

*celebrates*

And yeah, its my all time favorite stealth game, as it feels like an absolutely flawless balance of action and stealth. It also never devolves into spending long periods of time memorizing guard movements. You can take the whole scenario in much quicker, plot out strategies on the fly and execute them with pitch perfect controls. For me its perfection.

I really liked it but I understand the feeling. When you've played series like Thief, Splinter Cell, Hitman and some other minor ones it's hard to settle for a 2D sidescroller. No matter how good it is it's still limited compared to those.

Awesome news. Mark of the Ninja was the best game I played last year. I hope this means a sequel is in the works also.

Mark of the Ninja was awesome. I love stealth games and this probably has some of my favorite mechanics. DLC is day one for me. I dont care what it costs.

How is this compared to Shank. I know different genres but both developed by the same guys.

Mark of The Ninja is amazing.
I think the best thing about it is the way they introduce game mechanics just at the right time so you never get bored, and how everything works so perfectly together, which was a huge problem in Shank where you get bored after about an hour.

I seriously hope they don't put this up for 800 msp.
It's just one level and im pretty sure they will justify the high price (assuming it's going to be high) with the commentary.

Hope im wrong though.

Great game and I'm looking forward to the DLC. I would love to see a Metroidvania style sequel rather than the level based approach.

I've never really had a 3D stealth game click with me like this guy did. I personally felt that the constriction to a 2D plane really helped the gameplay. With 3D stealth games I always had those annoying moments where you couldn't tell if a sightline could reach around a corner, or exactly where a shadow ended, or you got messed up by an errant camera movement. Mark of the Ninja did away with all that for me, it was so tight. Every time I messed up it was a feeling that my lack of planning or skills did me in, where in games like Splinter Cell I often was annoyed at the camera or at fudging some complex multistage input command. It was intuitive and beautiful and I loved it. Plus with the short between level cut scenes and smart checkpoints I was always in the action, too much downtime listening to poorly written Tom Clancy babble in most other stealth games (excepting Thief).
