Markman leaves Madcatz

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I should make it clear. I didn't leave. I was laid off. I'm sure you guys probably saw reports of layoffs.

It was on good terms. They knew I was planning on leaving when I announced it during last EVO. They didn't have to take care of me, but they did. I have nothing but love and respect for Mad Catz.

If you know me, you know I work on a lot of different things. Great news now is I can work with everyone. I'll be okay. Best thing is, I have more time with my daughter now.

You were the face of the company for us. For them to lay you off, I don't know what that says about how much confidence MCZ has in this business for much longer. And what happens to Daigo, Mago and Tokido?

GL and thank you for your support, Markman.

Great tweet. He wrote poetry with those 140 characters there.

Man the stigma attached to Madcatz products were real bad. You did good Markman changing that perception bro.

Good luck in all your future endeavours even tho I know you won't need it.

Mark's rise from super dedicated Tekken fan to arcade stick designer is impressive.

I hope he writes a memoir detailing it. It's very inspiring.

I'm glad you get to go home and be a family man. Thanks for supporting the FGC as much as you have over the years.

Still rocking the OG SE and Namco TE.

To be fair, when it comes to layoffs, letting people who already announced plans to leave is logical in the first wave of layoffs since management knows they're going anyway (vs. laying off someone who wants to stay long term if possible.

In any case, thanks for all you hardwork for Mad Catz and the FGC, and all your informative posts on here (and CAG) in years past MarkMan! Best of luck in the future.

Your posts here (and at NT - long time lurker, lol) were great for the FGC and sneakerheads everywhere.

Mad Catz is legit for sticks and stick modding pretty much entirely due to your hard work. Good luck in whatever you do from here!

Wait, I'm confused. Would it really be you getting laid off if you were already planning on leaving, or did you just take the bullet for another employee since you were already on your way out?

Thanks for your hard work. Your hobby of fight sticks ended up growing and benefitting the FGC big time.

I feel like the amazing TE round 1 I got years ago had a lot to do with you. Getting a non-custom stick in the hands of so many people is something to be very proud of.

Good luck on the next chapter!

You turned a company from a laughing stock who's controllers we let people use as a joke while playing halo to a company I called videogame shops for months to buy a 200 dollar controller from. Hope all is well.

Presumably he just got let go before his planned resignation date. Though he can of course correct if he did step up to take the bullet. But it sounds more like management just made the call, and someone already planning to leave is an obvious choice as it hopefully saves someone who wants to stay (unless they just plan on not having someone in a similar position going forward of course).

#teamgamedesign or #teamstartupcompany?

He's got the experience and the connections. I don't see why it would be too sad.

I remember when Seth Killian left Capcom. I think he left for Santa Monica Studios for a while. He comes back for EVO, but it probably isn't as pronounced as it was when he was with Capcom. It seems like the years have been overly positive for Madcatz, but that's just from seeing all the products they release with being licensed with mainstream games.

Yes. I was planning on leaving yes, but after the SFV launch and some other projects I'm working on.

In fact, I'm still at the SFV launch event feat. Lupe Fiasco and Daigo because I want to make sure it succeeds!

Also thanks everyone for the kind words. I have a detailed announcement later this week to cover the recent news.

So you just left a little ahead of schedule to help out Mad Catz with the whole restructuring, right? Either way, I wish you nothing but the best on your future endeavors.

Glad to see you're in good spirits, MarkMan! Best of luck to you and everyone else who was affected by the restructuring.

Good luck on your future endeavors, MarkMan.

Hope you get around to making that website that's dedicated to reviewing game peripherals.

From his reply it doesn't sound like his choice/he volunteered. He was just let go earlier than he'd planned to leave, and at least doesn't seem upset about it. But sounds like he'd have preferred to stay through the SFV launch and wrapping up what ever other projects he mentioned.

Thanks for everything MarkMan, you were the reason Mad Catz actually became a respected brand. I fear for the future now that you're gone, but it was a good era.
