Mars Matrix and Gigawing - which is your favorite? CPS 2

Mars Matrix definitely wins the crown for me. Those pre-rendered visuals really sold me, as growing up in the 90's I couldn't get enough of those sweet, sweet pre-rendered visuals.

Recently picked up a Mars Matrix B board, and at some point plan on getting it in a cabinet, but for now it's on my supergun. Played Gigawing on my Darksoft multi setup and I don't think I'll buy a B board of that. Have it on the multi and Dreamcast so I am cool with that.

But what's everyone's favorite? I'd be curious to hear. Obv Progear is considered THE shmup on the CPS 2, but these are two solid games all the same

Mars Matrix is pure, perfect, simple. One button plus the joystick. :messenger_weary: :messenger_ok: Giga Waaang is fine but Mars Matrix perfected the "cancel bullets on command" style.

Overall CPS2 favs would be X-men Vs Street Fighter or Puzzle Fighter. Dimahoo is worth mentioning. I like Progear too.

I thought about doing Dimahoo but I never really enjoyed it much so I never captured it

See I like pre-rendered visuals, but considering I grew up on them with games like DKC, I def have some nostalgia going on
There's this notion that pre-rendered 2D graphics haven't aged well. Personally i also love the style and i think games like Toy Story on the Mega Drive and Blazing Star on the Neo-Geo are some of the best looking 2D games. It's just that these days traditional pixel-art is more appreciated and there's zero love for pre-rendered.

Blazing Star and Pulstar are two incredible examples of pre-rendered visuals. I wish they were both more affordable on AES

I remember Pulstar being hard as blue balls. Blazing Star was still a challenge too, but arguably easier (mainly because you can just resume where you were at when you die). Those are some awesome hori Neo-Geo shmups tho, along with Last Resort.

Pulstar is just pure memorization. Once you learn the patterns it becomes super easy...but it's frusturating AF learning them

My heart just stopped reading that title, i thought these were getting an HD reamke or something. Unless they are and I missed it...

I love both games to death, but Id give the edge to Mars Matrix. Gigawing 2 with its 4 player mode was very unique fun however.

I've only played the Dreamcast port of Mars Matrix, and never played Giga Wing, so....

Giga Wing. Because Mars Matrix is ugly and the music sucks.

Always wanted to play Giga Wing.

Not sure what Gigawing is and will have to investigate it. I love Mars Matrix though after wandering on it randomly at a local video game store when it was released on the Dreamcast. I've played the heck out of it and have the OST too. Sure wish there was an easy way to play it now on modern stuff or in a collection although I'm not familiar with other Shumps made by Capcom that would go with it.

CAPCOM could do the following: Eco Fighters, Progear, Gigawing 1 and 2, Progear, Mars Matrix, Dimahoo, and a few of the 194x titles and that's a full-blown collection in the same vein as the 'Belt Action Collection' they did a few years ago.

PSiKYO released a lot of their shmups recently. I wish Konami and CAPCOM followed suit. They have too many good shmups trapped in their versions of the Disney Vault. :lollipop_crying:
