Maybe patting is better way to put it. Most of those punches do not look like they have any strenght behind them.
Kung Fu Panda!

^^^The Grandmaster is FUCKING GORGEOUS to look at, at the very least.

(P.S. I really dislike wire work so no one floats on tippy-toe across the tops of pine trees)
Watch Ip Man 2, it's even more awesome.
I liked it better than the first one. But granted, I enjoy when martial art films are lighter in plot and heavier in awesome fightingI heard it wasn't very good, hence why I skipped it and watched the 3rd Ip Man movie >_>;

Also, no one should recommend any Ong Bak film that isn't the first one.

Stealth Donnie Yen post-2003 thread.
whaaaat how did WKW release a new film and I didn't know about it?WKW's The Grandmaster. Region free blu rays at are out in HK now. It has it flaws, felt like its scope could have done with a Dr Zhivago like running time. Still hoping there will be a redux longer cut down the line that could make this a classic.
Parts of it are really wonderful though, I loved all the scenes in the Golden house. Its approach to martial arts, their philosophy and what the wuxia world was like during the time when China was a republic was different from any thing that came before. It isn't another Ip Man film.
The two part docu in the extras about all their research into martial arts is really interesting too. I wish could release WKW's massive binder as a book or something, doen't feel that the movie in its current form does all that research effort justice.

Zhang Ziyi is really great in this.
The Once Upon a time in China series...or anything by Tsui Hark.

Total classic.
This is awesome! I don't mean to de-rail this thread, and I can certainly make a new one, but anyone ALSO have recommendations for modern martial arts flicks? I'm thinking of moves like The Man From Nowhere, and Flashpoint.
While I'm at it, if anyone could recommend Euro-ish action movies other than Ronin, Taken, and Bourne 1-2 I'd be grateful.

You've given him with this gif. the only thing worth seeing in Flashpoint. The movie is terrible.
Merantau is a great martial art flick about a young master in the art of Silat trying to teach children while seeking experience outside of his little village.
Okay this GIF is enough WHOA will watch
Tai Chi Master/Twin Warriors
King of Beggars
^two of my favorites
True Legend was pretty good.
Whoa, hate on Flashpoint but recommend Merantau?
Ong-Bak for me. In fact, any of Tony Jaa's movies:
Ong-Bak
Ong-Bak 2 (aka The Beginning)
Ong-Bak 3
Tom Yum Goong (aka Warrior King aka The Protector)
The guy is incredible!
In the Line of Duty 4.
arguably the best contemporary martial arts action flick of all time, no hyperbole. there's a fight scene every 5 minutes, all of them awesome.
features Donnie Yen molesting people with punches and kicks.

look above, friend. his best movie came out in 1989, all others are fighting for that 2nd place.
Definitely giving Tsui Hark a shoutout as well. His films are a must.
