I finished the single player campaign yesterday. I thought it was quite a lot of fun actually. Not an award winning story, but a fun romp. I like the game and will continue with it for a bit, but I can't deny that especially in the later missions there are significant performance and polish issues. Clearly they were up against a time limit. This is a bit disappointing and I hope they'll get this sorted in the coming weeks.

I keep seeing people making comments about shallow combat but I just don't think that's true at all. Sure, at regular difficulty levels you can button mash your way through it, but even on Normal there are some fights and situations where you'll have to plan. But at higher difficulty you really do have to start planning your equipment loadouts, character builds and synergies with the rest of the team. Some characters are going to be much better than others at taking out drones. Some characters are going to make better tanks, and some are going to be healers. Some will have better stun mechanics. Just looking at Iron Man, whether you choose to put your skill points in lasers, repulsors or rockets will significantly change his effectiveness in different situations. I think it's way too early to say how well balanced everything is, but I can reasonably say that it's not shallow.

These bloated triple-a game titles might as well, cause another game crash, starting next gen.

'a solid entry into the loot and shoot RPG space'

If there was an award for damning with faint praise this would win it

My big question is why this game needed to be GaaS/loot game with MTX? This game could have been proper single player/co-op game and it would have still sold tons of copy.
Because then it wouldn't be a focused narrative story. Hey, you get a nice campaign (longer than COD) AND you get new free content over the next year, end-game content as well as multiplayer and co-op. Quit bitching!

Funny how all of the haters haven't played the game. I've been playing since Tuesday and the campaign is awesome. Even if that's all it was, it is worth the full price. Tomb Raider was a 10 hour game. This is over that. Plus you get MP stuff. Quit being negative until you play it. You will be surprised.

Looks fairly interesting to me, at least as far as the SP campaign goes. I really like what I've seen and heard of the Kamala Khan opening level and how it tutorializes things. Neat stuff. But the GaaS aspect of it is a huge turn-off for me, even though there's not much information about what its like by the end of the game. Just seems to me like resources could've been spent on designing better levels and greater variety in the content, rather than bloat the game for extra monetization. Even from the more negative reviews it seems to me like people agree that there is the core of a good game in there, held back by the GaaS trappings.

I'm very curious to see how successful it will be and if the publicity hit from the GaaS approach will pay off or not. I honestly just hope it'll be good for just a singleplayer/co-op playthrough, in which case I'd be happy to buy on a discount down the line.

There's plenty of information but people are ignoring it to scream about them selling cosmetic items in the store. The campaign is single-player, about 10-12 hours if you skip all the side missions, and then the GaaS stuff after that is basically Destiny where you can continue to level up the characters, gain loot, and faction grind with Destiny-style factions.

Please don't legitimize games like this, guys. This is no different than the movie game fodder of the past with MT sprinkled in.

Damn! With all of the hate here I was thinking I was at ResetEra!

Same. This thread is an embarrassment to watch. It's like a reverse TLOU2 thread. They literally make stuff up to complain. Even ERA likes the game and there's lots of praise.

I didn't know this place had so many Sterling followers who can't think for themselves and just repeat whatever he said even when he's totally wrong.

The level designs, enemy/boss designs, the progression, it screams MP GaaS game, you cant tell me in straight face this game has same quality single player as other SP only games. The big selling point of this game is the MP.

No. It plays like any regular campaign in a video game since forever. The MP is just cherry in top, extra missions if you want.

What the fuck are you even talking about?

One only had to play the very generous beta to see what a catastrophe of a game this is. One need not have done anything other than spend 30 minutes playing/watching to see how incredibly mediocre this shit is.

No kidding. As I've mentioned before, in mere minutes the GoW combat captured me and became fun almost immediately. With Avengers, playing through the beta I just never felt anything. Nothing about the combat felt good, and combat was the game's primary focus. Well, aside from loot and MTX. Nothing about it felt exciting or good, it was just fine.

The level design is absolutely abysmal as well. I can't imagine grinding in a game like this, the thought alone feels like an immense chore. Hell, watching LIRIK play it, it felt like he was just ready to be done with it by the time he was almost done with the campaign.

People can like okay games, and that's fine. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. What's crazy to me is someone taking something that is incredibly mediocre through and through, but then talking to people as if they have no idea what they're missing. That they're playing it wrong, just don't get it, etc. If you like it, fine. Just like when other folks don't. Eeesh.

Yeah, the fact that people have what is called "opinions" is intolerable to some when it differs from the only one that is right which is mine.

A 76 on metacritic is a good score for a first entry no? Wasn't this game the destiny of superhero games? Destiny has a 76 metacritic too. I am sure the Avengers sequel will work on the missteps and provide an even better sequel like destiny 2.

This is what bugged me the most when playing the beta. I couldn't believe how bad and boxy the level design is. It's not something I'd want to play through multiple times, it would get so boring. At least with the Destiny franchise you had interesting looking levels and sky boxes which kind of help stippen the boredom of doing the same shit over and over again. Half the fun I've ever had playing ANY superhero game(Infamous, Spiderman, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Prototype) is moving around the environment and in Marvel's Avenger's the only heroes that felt fun to move around the world was Iron Man/Thor.

Think it goes both ways, people have general concerns that don't amount to hate they amount to criticism. And likewise trying to dispute all negatives is just as extreme.

I personally didn't enjoy the beta but tons did, I'm willing to believe I didn't give it enough of a chance. I also personally thought it felt too linear for my tastes, some folks seem to love that aspect.

The only thing that drives hate and deservedly so is micro transactions taking a bigger spotlight than the story/gameplay. To call all of it "extra" is just bullshit in my opinion. You can't buy this product without knowing what type of mouse wheel you're on.

I don't think this should surprise anybody. Very few people were talking positively about the game during preview and beta time.

lol people want it to fail so badly. Pretty sad when you're rooting for a game to fail that you haven't even played.
I want it to be good. But it's not. I've dreamed of a game like this since I was a kid in the 90's reading comics. But if you just say, "yup, this is good" you'll get more of the same shit, but if you criticize what deserves it, than maybe the devs will learn and try and improve going forward. It's ok to like something that's not good, doesn't mean you are wrong, just that you don't care and are willing to overlook faults.

Eh, I'm sure people want it to fail because of how it's monetized as its a GaaS. GaaS don't scream a lot of success, especially when they're full priced and not monetized well.

This isn't a TLOU2 situation by any means. A lot of the reception seems to revolve around it not being a ton of fun, lacking passion, and having poor level design.

Marvel and grind/GaaS fans will surely enjoy the game regardless, at least some of them, and that's more than fine. I just think a lot of people are also disappointed as.. well.. because they were hoping for a lot more than what the final product was.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't looked much into this game deeply, but it sounded like everything monetized is just skins for characters? Is that incorrect? Cause if the cash shop is just for skins (Something Fortnite does) to pay for free new characters, and new content....I guess how is that a bad thing?

Game looks kind of fun the bit I've watched, and have popped into a bunch of different streams of people who play games I enjoy and they seem to be really digging it. I think we need to step back as gamers and just see that some games just won't click with us as a whole, it happens.

I can see this going F2P when it really dies out, in about 5-6 months, I don't think that'll save anything though.

You can read more about it and them here: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/7482...ons-are-actually-pretty-innovative/index.html

That link would probably be more useful. The issue people have is that Fortnite is a F2P title, this is a AAA fully priced game. It's also the amount that they're asking for things that is kinda messy, again, considering it's a fully priced AAA title.

Exactly, it's to each their own much like any game, film, or piece of entertainment. I just think people were disappointed as a whole as they wanted the overall reception to be SUPER positive, and, well.. it isn't. That doesn't mean it's awful or horrible by any means though.

Yeah, that's the thing I'm really interested in. Bungie's passion and care for Destiny is what brought it success, not simply because it's a GaaS. So, I'm curious to see how CD is going handle this.

WTF!!?
How is this acceptable in high budget AAA Marvel game!? Sakuna is being made by TWO people and its more polished than this game is.

Because a game made with passion have more quality than a game made it with a huge Budget

I just bought the game. I'll leave some impressions in a day or two, but for context:
- My expectations are quite low.
-I bought the game because I'm a huge fan of Marvel and I could use a distraction.
- I'm not particularly a fan of "games as a service". My favorite games are the Metal Gear Solid series.
-I'm definitely going in with an open mind though. I want to like it

I don't really think that's the case, I think there's default haters for specific reasons but I see it nearly 50/50 in positives and negatives. I'm probably more on the negative myself but I really want to like this game I just see major red flags that I'm trying to patiently wait out and see how this bakes.

Yeah that's it, but the thing that annoys people is then the game is structured in a way, so that others can show off their skins to others. So the game has to be designed as an online competitive/social game, as that encourages sales of these accessory items. Of course, those who want a game centered around a story, hate this format, and for good reason.

I don't mind it sometimes, as it gave me a free Destiny 1/2, and I never bought a skin, and never bought any DLC's. Of course, it's all those people buying accessory items, that allowed me to play the game for free.

Now every developer just looks at what these games are making, and will drop traditional games, to cater to the shallow crowd that wants to show off their latest skin.

For a game that is supposed to hook you and keep you playing post-campaign, it just doesn't seem compelling enough from a gameplay/design perspective. For the die-hard Marvel fans though this should be fun, especially with friends.

That's all fair. I guess I don't mind it, I'm not gonna be hurt if I see a cool skin the same way I'm not upset when somebody uses an emote that cost cash in Destiny/D2 which I did buy every expansion for. I think having what is said to be an actually good story and campaign tied into something that could grow into a Destiny kind of game is a good thing in the end as long as they keep this model going forward and don't change to paid DLCs. There is a fine line that needs to be walked with these types of titles, and thus far I think they are on the right side of it. Destiny for better or worse is not on the right side of it but they get away with it by having the best feeling gun play out there. Believe me the model that Anthem wanted is what I want to see succeed, Cash for the cosmetics, free DLCs and updates. Not season passes every 6 weeks pinching off another 10 bucks, not the 30 bucks a year season model of Destiny.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy this tonight. I like a solid grindy game, and this checks those boxes. I mean in the grand scheme of things I could blow my money on worse games.

Any particular reason why? Trying to talk myself over the hump and buy this one. Would love to hear reasons why people aren't/didn't enjoy instead of MTX=Bad

biggest issue for me is the aweful lvl design once you been to each area 1 time you have seen everything that it has to offer. They are big open areas with cut and pasted structures throughout. Also while the combat does get better as you unlock stuff it’s still boring once you get a few key skills.

this kinda sums up my feelings.
