Marvel Heroes Beta NDA now lifted

Well, if you ask me:

Scarlett Witch. She might be the best character in the game at dealing AoE damage, plus she has several useful debuffs for party play (which I mostly skip). Her Combusting Hex ability just melts groups of enemies away like no other. Combine that with Reality Implosion, which deals damage AND pulls enemies (wide radius too) and you pretty much clear full areas by yourself. She also has Ruinous Tempest (another high damage AoE) to top it off. Against bosses or single targets she is not that great, because most move about and resist the pull, so you have to land the hexes ahead of them and don't get the full effect. But, with some attack speed her basic power (LMB) is nothing to scoff at. Her mobility is not good, but she has Flight at least

Storm. Her thunder abilities are kinda like Thor's, but Thor also has some neat melee stuff while Storm obviously doesn't. Her other trees are more of a crowd control set with slows, stuns, knock-backs, etc. and I like that she has a dash. She's a good overall character, but her raw damage doesn't scale as well as with other characters.

Hawkeye. Pretty much what you said. Build attack speed and crit and everything dies. At low levels you have to focus on a few enemies at a time but by the time he gets Triple Arrow and the Tear Gas AoE he manages against groups just fine. Triple Arrow is just an insane basic power. It is free obviously, doesn't have a super big spread so you can get all 3 hits on a single target at a fast rate and all can crit at the same time. It sucks about his roll (now it is a lame stun) but he is a fun character to play overall, and probably my choice for starter character. The downside is that I don't see anyone taking more than those 2 abilities and the roll or the lunge, plus the required passives, which might make him super repetitive in the long run. If the endgame gets significantly harder then he might make use of some of his crowd control abilities.

Thing. Eh... I don't like him that much. I only got him to level 16ish, but he is your basic tank character with shockwaves, ground smashes and auras like Colossus. Not much fun to play by yourself, but good in a party with other damage dealers and ranged characters. There are other better melee guys imo.

Daredevil. I like that he has dodge and movement speed as passives, because it makes traversal and close combat a breeze (you can boost both to like 50%+ with gear and costume crafting). The problem is his damage. He relies on landing a ton of basic attacks that don't feel powerful, and for AoE he only has one ability which has a lame animation, poor range and crap damage as well. I like his Radar Ping ability for the graphical effect (screens goes black and red and debuffs/highlights enemies), and that you can run around and jump all over the place like a cricket on drugs, but you'll pretty much have to hold down the attack button and wait 10 minutes for every minor battle to be over. Against bosses it's worse due to their increased HP pool. He needs a major buff to be useful.

Great breakdown thanks a lot. And ya thats one of my big concerns with choosing hawkeye tho, and from what i've played him too, it seems like its just like using his basic triple arrow like 98% of the time and i was afraid that he would get really boring. And like i said since im going to main Thor i wanted to choose someone that would be a lil bit diff play style and compliment him so thats why i wasnt sure on storm either. But i didnt know SW was soo strong and had such good AoE dmg but im sure thats prob at high lvls tho right. Still cant really decide its so tough, im torn between SW, Storm and Hawkeye >__< lol I do want to play hawkeye i liked him a lot but im afraid he will just get boring, and i dont want to bank on hoping that they eventually change him around again to be more fun lol. It's a tough decision but thanks for all the info ^_^

SW's AoE gets insane pretty soon (lvl 8sih) the problem is that the game is too easy right now, so about half of the roster feels overpowered at some point. Going by her character sheet, the incoming damage reduction stats don't increase anymore, and who knows how the enemy damage scales past the first 30 levels, or if they become more resilient towards mental damage, etc. I can see her being a glass canon later on, or getting overwhelmed by CC, etc. It's hard to gauge that beyond the story mode we have now.

ya true thats a very good point, and im sure it will get much harder later on too when the came comes out, or how the characters will play when the lvl cap is increased. Still cant decide lol

Also got a question, i know they said that there will be another huge content patch sometime soon within the next couple of weeks, but i was wondering since they are doing the open beta this weekend, that there will probably be a wipe and whats the likelyhood that they will have that patch that includes Cable and Human Torch this weekend?

I liked the game for what it was, a F2P Diablo style loot game. It didn't anything that much better than say D3 or PoE, but it does the Marvel thing in a fun way. I see myself playing it for an hour or so here and there while listening to music and zoning out or something.

I think it is unlikely they'll make it in this weekend but honestly, I have no idea. Seems to me that they'll want to avoid potential instability during this test, because it is more of a promo weekend, with the Iron Man 3 movie opening and all. They are changing the 5 starter heroes to be the Avengers due to that (for the weekend only) so they are probably not as interested in new hero feedback this tiime.

So if they are changing the starter heroes to the avengers then is there going to be another wipe after thursday playtest?

They haven't said anything about another wipe and they usually do well before they do. Those do tend to happen before an early week test because usually there is a bug or two that show up and they spend the week day tests fixing those before the weekend tests. So I don't think you'll see a wipe. I could be wrong though. They could do whatever they want. However I think they'll want the beta test this weekend to be smooth going for those using it like a demo.

Enabling the Avengers for the weekend starter heores should be as easy as a very small patch before the weekend test. Shouldn't require a wipe at all.

Been playing the beta for a while now. Most of my thoughts have already been echoed in this thread. Overall, it's good for what you're paying for which in many cases is nothing. (Not that it's a good for nothing game, just that if you're paying nothing, it's pretty good) Lag is dramatically improved, and the amount of things to do in each zone has increased 5-10x since I started.

Some characters are seriously way better designed than others, and unless you read some feedback or impressions, you might not ever be able to tell. I've spent the most time with Ms. Marvel, and aside from a little bit of jankiness with the hit detection on one of her abilities, she is an extremely well-designed character. Her trees are reasonably distinct, and she can be built as melee, ranged, tanky, or some combination of those.

To those inquiring about Spider-Man previously: He was, for a long time, regarded as one of the worst characters in the game, period. In the last major update, they broke him to extremely overpowered levels. Characters change a lot like that, but that actually gives me some hope that they will be constantly tweaking and improving the game.

As it stands, the game does need a lot of work. You only get one release day, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to be ready for it at this point. That said, it's definitely a game I see them iterating and improving on with time, so there's some bit of hope there.

Also, lag what? Was an issue my very first playtest, and never since.

On the forums Ryolnir confirmed that the 5% item find boost is for both rarity and special item finds.

Good to be a Ultimate Pack Player.

Cool but you know I don't care about that. I bought my ultimate pack just to support the game. Any other bonuses on top of the characters and costumes are just icing on the cake.

IMO it should be higher. I didn't buy that pack, but 5% you can find pretty easily on any equipment slot (and there are cores that give you up to 50% special item find) plus at that point you are only after the chase costumes anyway, at least until new characters are released. If anything 5% should be for a $60 pack, 10%/15% for the UP buyers.

Ah but that's 5 percent without needing gear. Combine that with any you get from gear and you're going to be able to get some pretty damn good chances to find stuff. That's the odd part about it. You have everything at launch. Guess it could help later but still seems odd.

Agreed. After playing the beta for so long I am really happy to support this game. They also plan to add new chapters too which is pretty cool.

Open Beta this weekend. Anyone who has an account there can play. I think they're also unlocking cap, iron man, hulk, and some others as starter characters for the weekend.

Yup. I just see myself wasting tons of time leveling each character up. It's not perfect by any means but it's the MMO I've wanted. I'm sick of superhero MMOs where you create your own. I love that I can be Iron Man, Hulk, Deadpool, etc, etc, etc ,etc.

Helps that even in spite of it's flaws I find it fun. In fact I can't wait to get home from work here and get some play time in tonight.

i'll be streaming tonight as well if anyone wants. also whoever's playing that has a character in the teens, wanna party up? my id is phoenixazure

I haven't played this since December/January and back then it was insanely stiff and just all around bad, going to download it again and hope its decent now.

It's much better now, that's for sure, but it can still feel like it's only halfway there.
...

So I used the 2000 Gs to buy 13 fortune cards, and I got this (edit: ugh, wrong cropped image, but you get the idea):

Which is rather funny, because last time I did this, I was after the Battle Armor Thor costume and I didn't get it after 600 tries, but now I got it on my second try (it's the purple square with no portrait). Funnier yet is that time I got 1 costume out of every 11 cards, and now I got 3 out of 13. Gotta love RNG (which I don't recommend spending real money on :P).

Sure, I'll be on. I'm inky in-game as well.

I've been playing with Rocket Raccoon and he grew on me after some so-so early levels (voicework kinda sucks tho). I put 2 artifacts on him that make Energy Barrage free (which hits 7 times per second) with a 20% chance to heal on hit. Damage is far from great, but the healing on hit is pretty neat.

Well rocket is more of an unkillable unending attacking character anyways so that works

I played about 2 beta phases ago, I forgot what level I'm at now. Really enjoyed the game so I didn't want to get burned out when it got released.

completely agree. ive been holding myself back because if i play now when the game comes out i wont care and i rather wait for the REAL version. i just really need help with my skill tree with storm.

I remembered this was in open beta this weekend and just checked it out for a bit. Seems really cool, very Diablo-y...although I was experiencing some pretty excessive lag that made it unplayable at times. I'm not willing to write it off yet, and will probably keep playing.

ya rocket is pretty sweet but i still think Iron Man's barrage is way better. But i'll b on tonight, i made a new account so i can play iron man more. I had him b4 the wipe and then didnt want to spend the points on him so since its open this weekend figured why not lol. I'll b on XxKaitouxX

In other news, this new trailer (LINK) confirms other Iron Man 3 armors will make it into the game (which was expected really), but I haven't heard anything about where (store, pack, chase) other than the Sub Orbital. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 4th pack this week will all of these, well, except the Mk. 42 which is exclusive.

They really need a high polygon/res pack for character models I think. The current level of detail for some is not enough and doesn't do them justice:

This might be a stupid question but I've tried looking all over my computer for an uninstall for this game. Does anyone know how I'd go about doing so?

Starboost armor is so hawt.
<<<<

I'm pretty sure that's for the actual release, because the trailer came alongside the introduction of the new Iron Man Premium Pack.

Are you guys still playing?

It shows up under add/remove programs for me.

EDIT: By the way the newest build removes the hour you have to wait as it checks the files before you can play. Hurrah!

I was experiencing a ton of lag earlier today on Ch4. Lots of bugginess and models failing to load, etc.

I stopped playing a while back due to the lag, but I'll log back in in minute or so. Well, if it's for release I might get the shotgun armor depending on how much it costs (and how it looks in game).

yea the game was under heavy load. Still fun tho. I may wind down in the coming week after i get Rocket to 30 (mainly just wanna see groot in action) and then just wait until the full version is out and start playing with my characters then.

i so want to get the ultimate pack but $200 is hard to justify. can you trade characters with other ppl or once u get a character it has to be yours??

It's much better now, that's for sure, but it can still feel like it's only halfway there.

Just played it for a few hours and yeah I agree, much improved, had a lot of fun.

Things still need improvement though, right now I get pretty bad performance when I really shouldn't, hope they optimize the game before the release.

Nope. There is no trading of characters etc. I mean from a common sense perspective you should have been able to guess that answer. They make their money by selling characters, costumes, etc. Why would they let players trade and sell those to each other?

Just played the beta for a couple hours (Thor and Wolverine) and had a great time. Reminds me more of the Ultimate Alliance/Xmen games, which I love. Once I got that into my brain the whole loot not showing up on your character didn't bother me. Will they be adding in options to play at higher resolutions? My monitors native is 2560x1440 and the game only goes up to 1920x1080.

I'd like to get the Ultimate Pack but $200 is a bit much,I wish they'd split that into 4 or 6 payments a month. I think for now I might just go with the X-force pack.

I cant install this, the bitraider thing keeps restarting every 4 secods, shutting down the client, reopening, repeat.

Enjoyed what little I played of this but I dont think Ill be dropping any money on it...maybe that will change a few months from now if there's more to it.

I really think they need to do better with the animations. The way the characters run seems a bit silly and awkward. Attack animations need some work too. The poses need to be more dynamic and stronger.

The art direction could use more work. The various character dont blend well together in the same screen space. Perhaps more cell shading to give off more of the comic book vibe, I'm thinking something like Borderlands.
