Marvel's Wolverine | Full Gameplay Reveal

Which part of the trailer is that? Because I've watched it three times now and cant find this moment

Also, there is ZERO dismemberment in combat in this new trailer. Only a prosthetic leg gets chopped.
At 3:16 he chops a guys arm off. I watched it twice, once in slo-mo to confirm. *edit* Looks like he chops both of his arms off in one shot.

Call me crazy but I don't think ANY hero/lead/anti-hero/protagonist/whatever the fuck you wanna call it should be gutting women like that. They are like a quarter the threat of their male counterparts at best and I think a light bonk on the head to usher them into nappy time is more appropriate.

Lol, this has to be satire right? 🤣🤣🤣

I envy those who can still get hyped for this. It looks like another Uncharted clone with formulaic and heavily automated melee combat devoid of any challenge.

This and Spiderman are just slop and they really have nothing on the first 2 Infamous games.

I don't like the blood. It looks too chunky. Why is that? It reminds me so much of the water droplets in A Bugs Life. Weird nitpick, but blood was everywhere, all the time, its hard to ignore. Other than that, I think its okay. Wolverine looks a bit psychotic going around gibbing people but I suppose that's the power fantasy.

Combat looks like it will get old pretty quick.

Combat? Was there any real combat? I just saw Wolverine slashing up just about every enemy without any resistance. The executions were bloody but it also looked boring as hell. At least with Spider-Man you had the web slinging which was all by itself just very enjoyable to do.

It feels like they couldn't find a fresh formula for this game and are just going to go all out on making it an Uncharted-inspired cinematic experience. Except no one really does the set-pieces as well as Uncharted and this looks totally underwhelming.

And this is coming from a massive Wolverine fan.

Sony's formula is tired.
Insomniac do great set pieces though, Spider Man has some great set pieces as does Ratchet occasionally

I was ready to hate on this, but actually looks kinda cool.

Love to see the gore and blood physics, really thought they would go woke'ish, am gladly proven wrong.

Also looks different enough from Spiderman games.

Wolverine

The IQ is very impressive, it's good to be a PS5 PRO owner.
Holy, that mask looks really weird I just noticed. The wrinkles in the eye hole region make it look like that's his skin and he just painted it ala Batman, but then the eyes are not his normal eyes and makes it look like he's wearing some weird contact lenses that should've been part of the entire mask. Is that the intent (cause if it is, it looks shitty) or did they fumble bad here with the assets here.

I like how anything short of fellating Sony is "being miserable" to you people, even when posters are detailing exactly why they weren't impressed.
So we're just going to ignore all the comments that amount to "that was shit" and selectively focus on the more detailed criticism? Not everything has to be viewed in such black-and-white terms.

I'm not talking about people who explain why they weren't impressed. Fair enough, that's what discussion forums are for. I'm talking about the large number of reactions after virtually every showcase that are little more than "shit," "boring," or "waste of time" with no substance behind them.

And this isn't about Sony. The same thing happens after Xbox, Nintendo, Summer Game Fest, or pretty much any gaming event. It's a gaming forum, yet a significant portion of the immediate reaction is always how terrible everything supposedly was.

The strange part is that some people seem to approach showcases looking for reasons to be disappointed rather than looking for things they might enjoy. Criticism is fine, but there's a difference between analysing what didn't work and reflexively declaring everything shit five minutes after the stream ends. Sometimes it feels like being unimpressed has become a personality trait in gaming communities.

The Spider-Man 1/2 Miles Morales games and now Wolverine have a distinct and easily identifiable art style characteristic of Insomniac Games.

Don't expect "photorealism" like you might find in The Last of Us Part II.

It still has that comic book look, and I think that's what bothers some people.

But the gameplay in this game will be amazing because we know the background of the previous games.

With Spider-Man 2, the gameplay never got boring for me because just when you realize it, a character mechanic changes. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but those who have played Spider-Man 2 know what I'm talking about.

Even Miles Morales, which for me would be the most lackluster of the three games, also surprised me in that regard; I ended up enjoying it a lot.

The confidence in this studio has been proven over time and with their games. I have no doubt.

Looks alright, but I'm just not into brawlers. The Spider-Man games had the fun traversal to break up the combat encounters, and obviously he was also much more agile in combat. This so far looks to be about just beating people up endlessly.

But I was told in this very thread it's PS4 graphics
If PS4 could do 4k at 60fps I suppose. They're right that the technology itself is derived from the PS4 generation, but clearly it's doing things at a fidelity and framerate a last gen machine never could. But if the game had next-gen features like RTGI, the same people would also complain about the low resolution/framerate and usual artifacts and visual noise associated with most "next-gen" games. In the end, I think traditional rendering tech can still look great and is a good fit for a linear action game not going for full realism or dynamic time of day.

I hope it turns out to be great. Can't say I'm very excited by what they showed though. Looks extremely formulaic, it was like watching a playthrough of something I've already played. Very strange feeling.

Watched it again with a friend and noticed -

No dismemberment and lots of repeating animations.

Also the wound in his back seems to open up the same way every time he's injured. I could be wrong but it looks like the wounds he gets are canned animations, I was hoping they'd be independent and determined by the exact type of hit he took.

I don't think anyone's able to top Dead Islands flesh system.

This forum can be such a weird place sometimes

Say what you will about GoW Laufey but that game's visuals looks a generation ahead of Wolverine. Insomniac may be a productive studio, but their 3D engine is outdated.

It's also easier when the game is split into pockets separated by passages to hide loading... open world games don't have this luxury, although it still looks dated. When GT6 releases it'll make wolverine look dated.

They've definitely done some good ones but this one didn't really impress me. Especially as a showcase. It reminded me of the Uncharted 4 jeep scene but less thrilling and less original. Also seemed even more on rails but maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Hmmm. Seems like they moved the character action angle a bit to the center. Kinda like Wolverine: origins from the 7th gen. That's an improvement in that regard.

Game would probably look better if they just lifted all the Rivals artworks and assets and used those instead.
I agree. But, modern west coast devs apparently don't have that sense of style in them. I'm honestly questioning, if these are the right people to be put in charge of doing the comics justice.

Wolverine still looks kinda small. They zoomed with the camera angle in on his bicep creating the illusion that he's bigger than he actually is.

And to think Manhunt was almost banned. This looked insane so much blood, How times have changed :o
Manhunt was raw, dirty and uncomfortable. It tried to simulate violence in a way that felt grounded and unsettling, almost voyeuristic as if the player was participating in something illicit rather than just playing a game. The killings weren't stylized or heroic, they were presented as brutal acts carried out purely for entertainment within the game's own twisted logic. That's exactly what made it so controversial and ultimately led to it being banned in several places.

Wolverine, on the other hand, is a stylized comic-book character. Even when the violence is intense, it's framed within a clearly fictional, exaggerated universe with a comic look. The presentation is more akin to an action film or comic panel, not truly realistic. There's a layer of abstraction that keeps it from feeling like it's trying to replicate real world brutality.

Thank Christ this game doesn't have paid early access. I feel like that is becoming more rare by the day

I feel like people are looking way too much into a 3min gameplay snippet. This is clearly a linear mission. According to all the leaks, the game is open hub based

We will see how combat evolves. Insomniac has always been very good at giving players a wide variety of tools/movesets to keep the gameplay loop fresh

More thanthe PS4pro visuals, i found wolverine leg to torso ratio very unnerving.
I know it is true to the character but still :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Wolverine and violence go hand in hand. Why are people saying it's too bloody? Too much gore? Wtf?

It's Liam McIntyre from Spartacus. I thought it was known from the last trailer that he was doing the acting?

Because folks have become pussies?

There isnt even any gore lmao

I think this will be a good romp for a weekend, like I said in the main thread. Looking forward to seeing more to be honest. I think I just need to know the combat doesn't get too boring.
