so is there even any women in this movie then?

/sigh

im out.>.<

Is this implying that Sailene Woodley is a woman? Because I could have sworn she was a small boy.

I also like how the media constantly peggs her as "the girl from The Descendants" but seems to forget her TV show.

And The Dark Knight had Batman, Joker, Two Face, Gordon, Alfred, Rachael, Fox, Lau, Gambol, and Scarecrow.

Not every character in this movie will have tons of screen time or play a huge role. Shame of them for setting up future plot lines and giving winks to the fans by using established characters. If anyone thinks Toomes is going to done a Vulture costume in this movie, you're fucking crazy. He'll be no more than what Lau was in Dark Knight.
='(

At this point, I'm just waiting for the trailers.

Bwahahaha.

You know, the damage was done in other threads, but I wish people would realize many people aren't familiar with the comics and didn't know this (like myself).

Ahhh sorry... but I felt like you're saying you don't want to be spoiled that the big ape die at the end of King Kong. The said fact may as well be basic pop culture trivia now.

I feel like I'm the only one who enjoyed ASM :(

I prefered it to Raimi's, by far.

One of the few superhero movies I legitimately enjoy. The villain was boring, but the mythology was more in line with the 90s TV show, which I enjoyed. The main cast was charismatic and the awkward humor was enjoyable. It didn't carry the usual superhero movie tropes...I like the fact that he showed his face, that he made himself known to the girl, and that he broke Gwen's father's promise. He seemed more human than any other superhero.

wasn't the whole "witness the untold story of peter" cut out of the last one (all the stuff about his parents)?

makes the director look a bit incompetent (i know stuff like this happens all the time in movies, but cutting out big story points, that where advertised in most of the trailers...yeah).

i bet they cut her out to either re-cast her or make more room for the (rumored) villains (
if the new rumors are true, we are getting felicia on top of rhino, vulture, electro, goblin and harry...man, this will not go well.
hell, even if the movie will be 2 1/2 hours, there wouldnt be enough room for all of those.

I don't agree. While this may be common knowledge with comic book fans- I'm not a comic fan. Many people who enjoy these movies really aren't familiar with the source material. If this were a thread about comics and not movies I would understand that approach.

It would be like going into a Hobbit movie thread and posting untagged spoilers just because the book is very old and popular. When its a new adaptation like a film you should account for 'new' fans not familiar with the lore.

That "Snap!" :(

And her head's angle! :(

I hated that episode when I was young! (Yes, I grew up reading most marvel comics, albeit translated in french)

When dealing with something over 30 years old the onus is on you to avoid spoilers, not the rest of the world. Don't go into Spider-Man threads if you are so worried about it.

True. I wonder how this Peter Parker is supposed to find any redemption after he even broke the promise he made to her dad.

This part stuck out so much in the first movie lol.

"The best promises are ones you can't keep"

Wut

But they're just spoiling the comics, not the movie. The movie is its own thing. They're just speculation, who knows, may be Parker will die and Doc Ock will become Spiderman in ASM3.

You assume her appearance is at the end after the fact. What if she is just introduced during a scene at school or something?

mj and gwen had some scenes together, they probably wanted to introduce her as a good friend of gwen and peters new neighbor/girl next door

I agree with this, I mean seriously, that happened 40 fucking years ago, it's not as if it happened on HBO last night. I'm sick of having to tip toe around spoilers for shit that happened decades ago JUST IN CASE one single person didn't know about it and they get it ruined for them.

As much as I liked ASM, I don't know that I could comfortably put it over Spiderman 2, but I certainly liked it more than Spiderman 1 and we don't even really have to go into Spiderman 3.

SM1 is kinda silly but the final fight between Spider-Man and Goblin is so fuckin brutal, even if it's not very comic book-y, it's one of the better fight scenes in the genre.

Big round for Sony Picture. They appear to be winning the 'Mishandle a franchise' award. Bet the feel stupid putting so much of the production out there for people to pick at.

I agree completely, that fight was fucking awesome. I really like the first Spiderman and I love Spiderman 2, I still consider that one to be one of the best comic films out there.

She's probably half the reason I enjoy watching Spider-Man films.

And this..

Whatever mess that comic did to the series, it sure was good to read.

Very strange indeed. Not sure what to think about the reason.

Maybe Gwen won't bite it yet? Or maybe it'll be at the very end of the movie.

Out of curiosity, are there details about what was cut?

I liked the first half of the movie, but the second half was a mess.

I believe the DVD release had some of the deleted scenes.

But, outside of those, I think the biggest thing that was cut was Peter's origin being related to his father or some such shit, instead of just being the spider bite. Marc Webb denies this, but I think he's full of shit. I think they may still be using the idea for the sequels judging by the jail cell scene at the end alluding to something more going on.

There were also rumors that the swat team at the end of the movie originally turned into lizard monsters after Connors throws his shit at them. Nothing really to back this up, was just a rumor, and the internet flipped out about it, and it was nowhere to be seen in the final film. It does seem like we have proof of two things being altered due to the internet outcry (Peter's alternate origin and the first person action from the first trailer). So, this could be true, someone theorized that was originally why Peter is fucked up at the end, instead of the stupid cop shooting him in the leg.

This site appears to have a run down of the deleted scenes on the DVDs.

This is a more rumor based look at it all (like lizard swat men).

Between James Ponsoldt’s The Spectacular Now, Gregg Araki’s White Bird in a Blizzard, and the YA adaptations Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, Shailene Woodley is about to become totally ubiquitous. One place we won’t see her, though is in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The rising actress has just revealed that her small part as Mary Jane Watson has been excised entirely from the comic book sequel, months after she finished shooting scenes for it. But Team Mary Jane needn’t despair — she’s still set to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, due out in 2014. Hit the jump to get the details.

UPDATE: Webb has now explained his decision, and there’s word that another actress could play the role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. More after the jump.

EW (via SuperHeroHype) got the update when they sat down for an interview with Woodley. “Of course I’m bummed,” she said. “But I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason….based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”

Woodley won the part back in October and was spotted on the New York set earlier this year. But she was never expected to be a major player in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Instead, the film was supposed to introduce the character so she could move into a more prominent role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Why Webb chose to cut out Mary Jane isn’t clear. It may have something to do with the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is already teeming with new characters as it is. Or it could be related to Sony’s recent announcement of a fourth Spider-Man movie, due out in 2018.

Since MJ was a bit part to begin with, her absence likely won’t shake up The Amazing Spider-Man 2 too much. But it’s tough to tell how this changes her involvement in the franchise as a whole. We don’t know whether Woodley’s already shot scenes will simply be moved into the third film, or whether her introduction will have to be rewritten entirely.

Either way, there shouldn’t be any shortage of other new Spider-Man characters in the new film. As far as we know, Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), and Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) are all still lined up to appear.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014, followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 3 on June 10, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 on May 4, 2018.

UPDATE: THR quotes Webb talking his decision to cut MJ: “I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”

Unfortunately, these rearrangements mean Woodley “likely” will not return for the third movie, according to THR, and that the part will be recast.

I see.

Good luck to everyone involved.

You're doing a bang up job guys.

I would fill me with joy if they play MJ part like in the comic books where Aunt May keep mentioning wanting Parker to meet MJ in ASM2 and her face was never shown like a recurring joke, then have her show up with "Jackpot" phrase in ASM3.

Woah. Harsh. Webb is clearly lying. I mean, if she wasn't actually the problem, I don't see why they would recast the character. I doubt she has any pressing engagements more important than a Spider-Man flick.

MJ has to be one the easiest comic characters to cast and it's baffling to see two versions of the same franchise get it so wrong.
I wonder if they just didn't do a hair/makeup test for her during casting. She looks just fine as herself, but in that wig? Not so much.

That was an awesome two page layout, it was so sad that right after that came out, they did the whole garbage One More Day story. Whole point of that issue was how MJ and Peter were together and she would stand behind him no matter what. OMD completely contradicts that issue in like a few weeks.

To be honest I think Webb realized he had another ASM on his hands that would involve massive edits. He probably convinced Sony that she wasn't working and that they would have to recast her so that they wouldn't think he fucked up again.
