Mass Effect 3 DLC "From Ashes" briefly outed on Xbox Marketplace (spoilerish)

If you can't date and have sex with him then he's not part of the main story in the ways that truly matter, IMO.

You know, the sad part is that if I'm not mistaken he is actually the only permanent squad member without any sort of romance subplot, be it with Shepard or another character (or in a few cases, both).

God Damn.
I thought he was being serious, lol.

You do realize that these days the Steelbook comes IN ADDITION to the normal case? Like in FFXIII-2, the game comes in the normal case. It's the extra contents that comes in the Steelbook.

Also, many of my Blu-ray/DVD/Games are in Steelbook case so they look pretty uniform. The rest that don't I just put in another shelf. I'm not that fussy.

Sure some do, and some don't, Gears 3 a recent notable Steelbook release didn't
I tend not to jump at it unless I know before hand, and I've seen the description for the ME3 CE to range from Steelbook, Metal Case, Tin and have yet to see anything about whether it has a normal case or not so have stayed away.

That said I do agree with you that of all the squadmembers, this guy should have been part of the main story. He's a pretty important addition to the cast and provides a lot of opportunity to flesh out the series backstory.

Yeah, I think this guy should have been a key character to the storyline (the solution to defeating Reapers, for example) and it's unfortunate that he's been turned into a DLC.

my sarcasm was too advanced it made me look retarded

Well again, here's an idea;

He IS part of the main storyline, regardless of DLC. But he only becomes a permanent squadmate, and gets extra missions etc. with the DLC bought. Please say they've done this. He's a fucking Prothean. You can't just explain that shit away in an 800msp DLC.

A sale would probably be the best way to go. I don't think there ever was a GOTY edition for ME2.

I know, that's why I mentionned the sale option. I'm pretty sure the game will be sub £20 by the summer.

I share everyone's surprise they'd decide to treat such an important subject as DLC and I can't help but think they actually design their story, what is central and what isn't, around monetary considerations.

The more I think about this, the more it irks the hell out of me. While nothing new, I am just finally starting to feel like an idiot for the times I have supported such practice with my hard earned dollars.

I mean, it's not enough that those of us getting the regular edition are buying the game. They still have to stoop to milking us for a character that should just be in the game. "Want this character? Pay us just a little more!"

And like drug fiends, fans who think that they are missing out will willingly shell out the extra bucks without even a second thought. Which only condones and invites this sort of practice to continue and go even further. As I said, I have been all too guilty of it myself, but I am simply getting sick of it.

Wait...wait...wait...is that really the design of
the Prothean Character

Am I the only one who finds the
human looking lips underneath an alien carapace
absolutely hilarious?

At least I can finally use of some of those stupid Bioware points I bought...
Part of me says I should just get the CE instead so I don't have to deal with buying Bioware Space Bucks. But then again, I probably will have to when they release the inevitable "EPILOGUE DLC".

Wait, DLC as in it doesn't come with the base edition, only with the limited one? I thought this character was going to be their online pass thingy (thus, included in every game). Being what he is and all it seemed kind of important to the story.

Mass Effect's 2 limited ed. didn't come with anything extra in-game iirc (I bought it twice), let alone a $10 DLC mission/character... wow.

Fortunately this is getting fixed for ME3.

Are they doing the thing in which you can pretty much sex up anyone regardless, like DA did?

That would be ideal, but I can almost guarantee you they didn't do that. He'll probably have about as much going on as Zaeed. Zaeed was great, but if there's going to be a prothean in your party, they deserve a bit more. I'll be happy if Bioware proves me wrong though.

I was initially spoiled to the surprise by an update from Kotaku. Excited, but a little weirded out by the accent.

Luckily I've had the CE pre-ordered since... *checks receipt*... last June, when I also pre-ordered Skyrim and BF3. =)

I think this kind of confirms that he won't be. Which, if true, is a massive missed opportunity (on top of the already questionable decision to even have him)

Again, he appears to have as much dialogue/detail as the other party members going by the leaks and the fact there's a significant amount of files for him in the demo, we just don't know how he's worked into the main story of the game.

This sums up my feelings as well other than that I don't mind there still being live Protheans. I knew about his existence, but didn't know he was the DLC character. This feels off, it's like they'd have Legion as the DLC character in ME2 and Zaeed be a main party member. I figured he would actually play a very key role in the plot and I'm bummed out he isn't.

The were being sold half-off on Origin just a few months ago, if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't bother at all with Bioware's shitty DLC shop. I just hope they don't drop it for Origin since my points would be useless.

Yeah, I mean, as long as he's there, might as well have a major plotline around him, but nooooooooooooooooooooo, he has to be DLC. :/

Why couldn't Vega or Tali be DLC? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

This makes me sick. Releasing dlc 15 days BEFORE the game is even released. I hate the current generation of gaming.

:P

Wonder if this DLC will be as shit as the squadmate DLC for Mass Effect 2.
That is the characters will only be voiced in the DLC and not have any conversations or relevance at all outside the DLC. Still 800 points for held back DLC for a race we can only get from DLC is a fucking scam.

ME2 sold 2 million copies on PC/360 during its first week. If ME3 sells as much on 3 platforms and 10% of the players buy this DLC, that's 2 million bucks for free. And these are conservative estimates.

Yeah, I can see why they'd be assholes.

Hmm,

ME2CodexProthean.png

Why do two very different prothean exist?

Collectors are Protheans, though the statues on Ilos don't look like them.

In the art book they mention that they didn't have a design laid out for the Protheans in the first game, and deliberately made the statues on Ilos misshapen to hopefully make the Prothean look vague enough for them to develop it in further games.

The digital deluxe edition is £54.99 and is basically a giant scam. By collector's edition it means collection of a few indistinct weapons and armor that will probably be free a few months after release.

I also note that it's cheaper to pre-order on Amazon than on Origin - what's the point of Origin then?

Well this overpriced day one dlc is at least cheaper than buying the collector's edition. Still pretty insulting. Zaeed was free so it was easier to justify his lack of integration into the story. If you want to charge me for this
Prothean, you'd better let me fuck it

isn't that a husk?

prothean looks like
collectors

Isn't that a picture of a husk?

Nope, Its what the statues on ilos looked like and its the ME2 Codex image for a prothean

And a husk for comparison

And problem solved, thanks.

It is strange really.

They have those on ilos in ME1 and in the vision, but as we know the Protheans were re-engineered to some extent and became the Collectors, but you can also see the Vision from ME1 in ME2 with an extra bit on the end that shows the Protheans looking like the Collectors.

It is possible they looked like the Statues and the squad mate is some escaped Collector, but I have no idea, or maybe the statues are of some other race that were to the Protheans what they were to us in the games, at least that is how I would have explained it away.
Hopefully ME3 will explain it, there are a bunch of things they really need to answer in it that have been left on the side.

Edit:
Nevermind, just Bioware being tards and designing something beforehand it seems then, Proteans if they all look like the new squad mate imo don't really look like the statues at all.
One day Bioware will get something right. :P

X: Hey guys, you are killing us by not buying new, full-priced games with stripped content that we charge extra for to make even moar money.
C: Yah, I will just buy the game used or wait for a sale in a month and get all the content for a fraction of the cost.

------------------------------
This is an argument against Online Passes and Disc-Locked-Content or Day 1 DLC (some make you actually download it so you feel like you actually get "something" - even though you aren't.

If you can wait a month and get the game, heck, even *new* for a fraction of the cost..and purchase all the DLC for less than day one. What. is. the. point. of. supporting. developers. or. publishers. that. continue. to milk. and moan.

/rant.

Nope.

Was thinking about giving the Mass Effect series a try, but fuck this shit. Between the Origin booshit, and day 1 DLC, I think I'll invest my time and money elsewhere.

This is disappointing. I thought they were going to be in the regular editions as a way to encourage people to buy new like Zaeed was in 2. They are such an important part of the universe to leave as DLC.

They'll offer some of them for sure, but not for free. I dropped like 30 bucks on DLC for ME2 and I only got 1 extra armor suit, 1 visor and a weapon (I think). There was a bunch of other stuff I didn't and still can't get. That is one of the things I hated about Mass Effect 2. They put a little too much effort into changing the color of my armor and too little into giving me variety -even as DLC- and the few they had, I can't even buy.

The hell? Yeah I'm just going to pass completely on this, he's been out of the bag for ages. Not to mention he should be a major character and seems to have been part of the script for what seems like ages. Having him as DLC makes no sense and just reeks of cutting core components of the game's design to sell out piecemeal.

I can't support this. It's just too insulting. Next time I'm in gamestop I'm cancelling my CE pre order.

Regarding the protheans...

I still think it makes sense if there were simply different alien species during the last reaper invasion....it would be just as it is "now". Shame they didn't take this route, and just said "LULZ WE FUCKED UP".

Assuming the ME Universe is in the "present", in another 50 thousand years wouldn't it make sense that there might be statues of Krogans, yet we know that there were also Humans, Asari, Turians, etc?

It would have been soooo much better if the Collectors were the "chosen" species, while the Protheans were one of the disregarded species.

Was buying the CE anyway. Still stupid that it's day 1 DLC. Stupider in fact the type character it is, he should be part of the storyline. This is too important to be DLC.
