Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer FULL Details [Update: Many More Previews]

How about more options in the singleplayer?
What option was cut to include multiplayer? That's really shitty of Bioware to cut single player content in order to pander to the multiplayer crowd.

No doubt more EA shotgunning for a future hit multiplayer title as MoH and Battlefield don't appear to be it.

The problem with ME2 wasn't the shooting, but moving around. Mantling cover and just getting around obstacles was always clunky and there's no way the game will play as well as Gears 3 or Uncharted 3.

That said, if it's just junior Horde mode, then whatever. But highlighting the combat seems like a strange thing to do...
They actually changed that part pretty dramatically.

Nobody really knows if anything was cut from the singleplayer to include multiplayer, I believe it's also a seperate team working on the multiplayer.

They didn't cut single player content, a whole different team did the MP component of the game separate from the SP part of the game. It's also likely one of the major reasons they game got delayed in the first place, to add the MP stuff to the game

They haven't, people assume that if multiplayer is in, then something must have been cut from the single player.

The powers and weapons are still part of the combat system though.

Also, two new screenshots, which I'll just add into the OP.

When I was thinking combat system, I was thinking shooting and movement mechanisms. I guess you include weapon modifications and power branching under that system. To be fair though, we don't much/anything about the game other than the combat. We don't know if vehicle combat is in(other than turret section), improvements to dialog trees, or even how choices impact the story.

If you go by the developers twitter, they are still working on single player.

Exactly.
They should focus more on not ruining the final boss this time around, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
All they seem to talk about now is how you can shoot and beat people and making the game accessible. It's like ''bigger, better, more badass'' all over again.

Never. Forget.

I'm glad they included the guide arrows, otherwise I might not know which way I was pressing the buttons on my controller.

Gears does this too. It's so that you know which direction your character is moving, for example going cover to cover instead of out of cover.

There is supposed to a Bioware Pulse episode coming up that is dedicated to the RPG elements.

I have not seen them in recent demos. I could be mistaking though.

Did they really? Good grief...

Just design your levels or control better. If you're having to give me directional arrows, something's not quite right.

take the weakest part of mass effect, the boring combat, and make an entire multiplayer mode out of it.

genius!

my brain hurts

what did you expect? dialogue multiplayer?

I'm not sure people would have been as interested in an entire multiplayer mode based on talking to NPCs.

So a game that stars a bunch of alien commandoes and takes place across a huge galaxy has the same multiplayer map that every other game has.

Never change, industry.
Not sure if youve played ME 1 or 2 but there are some pretty slummy locations throughout. Id say its more slummy than not most of the time.

I really, really, really like the way this is shaping up. I am all for any way to get more Mass Effect and this sounds like some harmless fun.

Nice.

I feel like this is a neat way to bring MP & solo together...your MP has an effect on the outcome of the solo campaign. That said, I hope it's actually fun. Sucks for Bioware if it's a bummer.

Friend of mine wants to do this just for the single player benefits. I'll join him for that, but all I really care about for ME3 is the single player.

Deliver on the single player, Bioware, and I really don't care if this mode is good or not.

I'm simply going off of what they did in Mass Effect 2 compared to Mass Effect 1.

I didn't say they cut single player content but if people like options and they count multiplayer as options (multiplayer being something seemingly not asked for in great volume) more single player options would be good, yes?

It comes down to the fact that any money that could have been spent on multiplayer could have been spent on single-player instead.

It could have, but it doesn't mean the game would have been better for it. Having two studios work on the same single player campaign does not always work out that well in the end.

So no story elements and it sounds like your character has no progression.

FUN FUN FUN

MP characters are persistent and do level up. I think the level cap is half of the normal SP level cap or something.

Very interested in the MP. I like survival modes (except Reach's Firefight, it is not survival but a shooting gallery) and this one seems to have fun twist with the objectives and class-based gameplay.

That isn't how business works. It's very possible the only way they could have gotten a larger budget was to put multiplayer in. Not to mention there might have been multiplayer assests that are used in the single player such as enemy AI.

So I'm assuming the 'pause' action won't work in this mode. That's usually how I play ME. I play it more like an RPG than a shooter.

Yep, sounds like a mode modern Bioware would make.

You want to play an RPG? Bioware no longer thinks you're worth making games for.

Ok, let me rephrase: from the perspective of the people approving the money, the budget could have been spent on single-player instead of multiplayer.

Clearly the business guys felt that the ROI was better for multiplayer stuff. For a mindless EA corporate planner with no understanding of video games and no critical thinking skills, the decision makes sense. It's something that can look good on paper and is easy to justify to upper management.

Really though, I expect it to be a mildly fun mode that's completely unnecessary and doesn't significantly affect the success of the game either way.

Doesn't seem too great judging by that RPS piece... rather they just concentrate all those resources on the SP. And haven't even been blown away by what they've shown of that. Hopeful this isn't becoming something akin to DA2. =\

I can't even play ME2 without pausing (at least on Insanity).
It will probably help having human controlled characters and not the braindead AI.
Then again...

I'm going to play multiplayer a LOT, but I'll just jump up and down on crates, run straight into the enemy without any regard for tactics, and continually get killed for doing stupid things. It'll help make the multiplayer combat feel more like the single player experience for my teammates.

I've played Mass Effect 3s multiplayer, and it's actually loads of fun!
but is it on par with uncharted 3 or gears 3 ?

because gears and uncharted step uped their game by several levels so far ..

I don't give a damn about the multiplayer. Thankfully, I'll be able to finish the game properly (the so called optimal ending) without ever having to touch the multiplayer.
