Mass Effect 4: "...we don’t want Shepard 2"

That's far too long a wait.

At least it'll be on next gen consoles.

On the bright side, being next gen reduces the possibilities of it being an spin-off/prequel IMO, also it seems they do want to make another customizable new hero character which is good.

Okay so this is a bit fan-fictioney, but it's one of the few stories in the universe that I would like to actually play.

One area that I've always felt was interesting in the lore and that could make for a fun game is the lead up to, and revolution of, the Geth from the Quarians. I'm thinking "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes", but with the Quarians as humans and Geth as Apes, maybe with a little bit of galactic politics thrown in. I guess it would be a little bit of a mixture between Caprica (BSG already seems to be all over this universe anyways) and Conquest

It would be cool for instance if you played as say a young Quarian diplomat, trying to ease conflicts created by your own race's desire for artificial intelligence, and the councils apprehension to said policies. Or, maybe you play as a Quarian scientist, torn between your work/duties, and what you see as the enslavement of another species that you helped create. Or....some sort of pro-geth political activist/terrorist type character, who tragically becomes a major player in the downfall of his own people. Hell, if Bioware really wanted to get crazy, they could make it so that half the game is played as a Quarian, the other half as a Geth (Probably the "Ceasar" character). Or maybe the entire game as a Geth, tons of possibilities. Regardless, I wouldn't be satisfied if you were just a Quarian marine or something.

Beginning of the game, the Quarians are an advanced, powerful society, a true force of influence in Citadel space. Their economy is booming because of their use of robotic slave labor...the other species are jealous of their prosperity, and also majorly concerned about the implications of a society based on synthetic labor. Game ends with the Quarians fleeing their homeworld, kicked out of the Citadel Council, and with a bleak future ahead of them.

Maybe there are hints thoughout the game of Reaper involvement in the Geth gaining sentience.

Whatever they do, please god ret-con this shit :

I dunno, this is just the area of the lore that I personally find the most intriguing. As other have stated, they probably won't make a game not starring a human so this was probably a waste of time to even speculate.

I don't care about Shepard, as has been stated in the past, the guy is, was, and always will be "a brick". If this is going to be next gen...whatever game they make, it's time they really looked at their dialogue system and characterization. This goes for all developers mind you. I personally still love dialogue in games but it's grown so tired. Bethesda, Bioware, Deus Ex developers...somebody needs to revise this. And I'm not just talking being able to talk to your kinect either, although that tech can certainly help. One thing I can't stand anymore is dialogues being this separate, minigame type thing. I want them to feel organic. The chatter between characters is nice...can we take part in some of them? Without cutting to some separate minigame?

Complex universe with rich history.

First contact.
Geth wars.
Krogan wars.
Rachni wars.
Prothean Fall
Turian/Asari cultures/history.
Pick one.
Focus on it.

Or go post reaper reconstruction period
Krogan Dominance?
Turian power struggle?
Terminus Systems expanding into citadel space?
Council coup?
Etc.

Interesting characters. No corridor environments. Plot not written by 9th graders.

Sell a million copies.

No prequel shit. At least not in any area covered by the lore. Remember how pissed everyone got with them taking the wheel from our hands and disregarding our choices in order to shoehorn their endings? You want a repeat of that? "Yeah I can fight in the First Contact war! And I know what is gonna happen before playing one minute of it!" Prequels with predetermined outcomes are OK in games like FPSs (like Halo: Reach) where player agency over the story does not exist. Not in story heavy RPGs. One exception. If they ditch the whole "You have been chosen to save the day" plot and try something more personal. Like The Witcher 2 did. "I want to clear my name and get my girlfriend back." In the end
Nilfgaard always attacks
but you didn't spend the whole game game trying to stop it from happening.

Exploration. Space is cool because it's infinite, unknown and unknowable. Instatravelling around between four or five locations is not cool. There was nothing galaxy spanning about ME 3. Have your story planets but throw some meaningful side paths. On other systems. Anything from large sidequests to procedurally generated sandboxes. Reward people who love your game and spend extra time examining your world.

Sci-fi instead of military themes. I know that these themes are easy to make your fanbase feel badass and shit but they've been done to death. ME 1's Reapers were cool as hell. An all powerful, eternal threat. The Sovereign scene in ME 1 was so great. They were such a great threat only to be reduced to really big ships. They were the unkown. The unknown can only be fought with knowledge. Not by making an army bigger than before.

I want a non-human MC solely because they're less likely to look like shit if you don't use the preset. Fuck BioWare and their shitty character creators, up there with Bethesda.

true, playing with a drell would be awesome, imagine going stealth the whole game! amazing o_O

Please don't make it a fucking prequel, we all know what happens and how it plays out.

Other than that they can make a Shep 3.0 for all I care.

It's sad to think that Mass Effect used to be my favourite series of this gen. It's become so far removed from what I liked about the original and has now evolved to Gears with dialogue options. ME4... do not want.

I dunno whether I want another Mass Effect game, I cant think of any plot which could have the same amount of gravity that the original trilogy has (you have to save the entire galaxy from annihilation), as a result I think the plot could end up feeling very lacklustre unless they decide to go in a completely different direction (which they probably won't).

And Wrex.

And Garrus.

Make a whole game around Garrus. In fact, if I was in charge, I would make a whole trilogy based around Garrus working C-SEC in a reality-show "COPS" style format. We can follow Garrus and his partner around the Citadel busting hookers, chasing red sand addicts, tasing bro's...you get the idea.

People want Shepard.
You want people to buy your game.
Your game will have Shepard

People don't want Shepard.

People want the characters that surrounded him/her. I don't care if Shepard is dead, but not seeing Wrex or Garrus again kinda makes me sad.

Man I would so buy that game.

Super disappointment if they go the prequel route. It should take place x number of years after the mess that was ME3, have a new protagonist, focus on building camaraderie with a new team put together within the first hour, exploration based missions, and deal with dark space / neighboring galaxies.

No 'news' leaked out of the Mass Effect universe panel at BioWare's event. Probably was no substantial news to speak of. But the panel was recorded and will be released later this week.

I'm all for it being an RPG as far as gameplay, but I rather just have a story where I don't affect the outcome. Cause honestly it didn't really work that well the first time - not that it can't be done - but story is a huge reason why I play games, and a story that is laid out and planned usually has much more impact.
Unless Mac Walters writes it lolololol.

SICK NASTY

This makes perfect sense for launch on next gen console, right?

Fall next year or spring the year after seems like its coming up too fast for that, though.

Keep the universe, give us a new crew, I like the idea.

Jumping right into Shepard 3? Bold move, Bioware.

According to the original game plan, Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty was originally named Metal Gear Solid III.

Shepard 3 wouldn't totally be breaking new ground here.

Have the next game a Mass Effect / Halo crossover. The Gravemind is new threat to the galaxy and UNSC and Alliance battle it out. They learn about Slipspace and abandon the Mass Relays. Huge amounts of sales and fun for all.
