Mass Effect Andromeda collectors edition doesn't include the game

Companies have started doing this for a reason - so they don't end up producing expensive console-specific versions, then having leftover copies that won't sell because someone doesn't have an Xbox or a PS4. If they make just the standard "Special Edition" with the steelbook and stuff, yeah they get you for a sale twice, but you also get to pick which console you get the game for without them having to make four different SKUs.
Exactly. There is always, without fail, one SKU that sells far worse and leaves collector's editions hanging around on retailers shelves (particularly PC, those are very hard to shift after release). This also benefits the customer because it means we don't have to deal with ratings logos (particularly USK), console branding or the typical back of box garbage ruining the packaging, plus if you then want to sell the game later on you can still easily keep the collectors stuff.

I am all for this being standard. If I want to buy a collector's edition for a series I'm a huge fan of while still remaining digital, this allows me to do so.

This. I can buy the PC version from CDKeys this way while getting collectors goodies without having to to double-dip on the game.

Oh for fucks sake.

If it not includes the game its not a Collectors Edition because its just junk and not a version of the game.

the fact this trash is "the norm" for certain companies makes me laugh at the current state of the industry

While I understand the reasoning and justification for this practice, calling such a bundle a collectors edition of a game, without the actual game, is bloody stupid, and quite rightly invites ridicule.

More importantly though, I do not for one minute believe this is being priced at what a bundle with a disk or code would have cost minus the price of the game.

Hell, I'd expect it would have been priced identically in fact.

Separating the product into two seperate purchases will have been calculated to increase revenue, because otherwise they wouldn't have done it, especially not with the transport costs and paying for shelf space in stores/warehouses for two items obviously being higher than for 1.

Ultimately, we're paying more for this set up, I'd guarantee it.

I think it's a great idea, especially for the modern trend of 3-tiered special editions of games. Those usually go standard edition, deluxe edition with digital goodies, then super deluxe edition with digital and physical goodies. Now those who want the physical toys but not the extra digital stuff have the option of purchasing those, saving a little money on the stuff they don't want.

It actually makes a lot of sense with the alternative being trying to parse out how many PS4, XB1 and PC versions to make and then over or under shipping one. Just let people get the extra stuff if they want and find the cheapest copy of the game on their platform.

It looks silly but get used to it. Gives people that want CE the option of getting it with a physical game or the digital game instead of releasing multiple CEs that could cause confusion.

I don't really see the problem here: it's just options being added, it's not like they're trying to mask that fact since it's clearly stated the CE doesn't contain the game: perhaps they should relable it as CA though (Collectors Accessory, or something).

thats not a bad thing really, its way to produce collector editions without needing to make specific skus

and this way if you find a deal on the standard edition, you could get it for cheaper than if the collecters edition included the game, assuming the same deal didnt apply to the collectors edition

That'd make great sense.....if they priced the CE's <60 bucks then average, but they don't, they still charge you the normal price of a CE, but now you get no game.

Now this I would agree with.

The fuck?

This is the superior option because I can buy the game digitally and don't end up with they same game twice.

Discs are last gen.

I mean, i like being completely digital on my Xbox one, so this would be kinda neat if I were interested in the collectors edition. Overwatch is my only physical xbone game, but if I could've got the game digital with my S.76 statue I would've.

well when you compare the nomad to the rc-xd , the rc-xd is no where close to matching the quality of the nomad rc

I don't know about the quality of the Nomad, but it better be out-fucking-standing, since that's the only thing you get for 200 bucks. The RC-XD can transmit video and audio and the remote comes with a display, which is pretty cool.

i believe blizzard did something similar with overwatch's collectors edition, where the collectors edition didnt come with the game itself, but you were suppose to only be able to buy the collectors edition bundled with the game

No, Blizzard did not do this.

the nomad rc can also transmit video and audio, can also has a light can be turned on and off, though the nomad rc is controlled by a android/ios app

the issue is that the CE doesn't include the game...

How does that overwrite the ability for the person to still buy the game? Name the conflict there versus the conflicts that arise if you do something completely unheard of like buying it digitally and wanting the CE contents.

As long as they state that clearly on the box and in the advertisments, I don't think there is a huge problem. It's basically a treat for really dedicated fans. I'm ok with that.

So, everyone who's super-upset would be ok if they just called this a standalone accessory, right? All the gnashing of teeth is because, traditionally, Collector's Editions have been the game with extra stuff, and they're just selling it separately?
I think it has the potential to be confusing for the customer, but they're being pretty direct about what's in the package.

I've never been interested in the RC car / night-vision goggles / etc. that Super Deluxe Turbo versions typically have, and while I have historically gotten the CE version of every Mass Effect game, looks like the "Deluxe" one is what I'll get, this time.

Pointless complaint because it involves EA it's basically open house in being antagonistic towards the company when this actually solves all of these problems:

1) Allows digital buyers to get the CE contents without buying a second copy of the game.
2) Allows EA to ship an appropriate number of collectors editions for all platforms in one packaged box.
3) Prevents EA and retailers from having to cut price of underperforming SKUs (Probably Xbox) in order to clear inventory. Nobody likes losing money.
4) If you don't want the extra MP bonuses from the digital deluxe edition you're not forced to buy it. Go vanilla!

But hey, fuck EA for giving gamers choices. My only grievance is that a $199 toy is marked up to £279 and exclusive to the shittiest retailer in the U.K. (Hence the markup). That's something worth getting annoyed about as there's no choice here.

Exactly. 'Edition' means it's a version of the game... there is no game. Why are people defending this again?

I applaud whoever said 'Addition' cause that's exactly what this is, a marketing disaster. I can totally see plenty of parents going for it just to indulge the kiddo, except he'll only play with the remote car (lol).

you're missing the point OP is trying to make.

the issue is that the CE doesn't include the game...

If it's clearly marked, what does it matter? If you want to buy the game digitally, and still get the collector's edition goodies, then you don't have to buy the game twice to get it. Buy the game anyway you want. Take advantage of the Amazon discount. Wait for the GreenMan sale. Buy a key, buy it used, whatever. If for some reason you have a hardon for the toys, you have more options.

I swear,

-More options=complain
-Less options=complain
-No change=complain

maybe im thinking of a different game then, i knew something did buy a collecters edition of a game where itself did not include the game itself in the package but would include one of the versions of the game, maybe it depended on the store, but i believe someone in the canadian gamind deals thread somehow only preordered the collecters edition minus the game at ebgames where it should not have been possible to do so

Sounds like a deal. Just the standard digital version for me, thanks.
