Max Payne 3 System Specs [Optimized for up to 16GB RAM, 3GB VRAM; req 35GB HDD space]

Not surprised at the 35 gig size. That's gong to be on the small end of major game release sizes when the 720 and PS4 hit their stride.

35 gigs is the new 8 gigs.

Have they mention whether or not this game would get Steamworks integration? I hope the Steam version gets it at least, like LA Noire.
 
reading 35gb made me thrilled because that can only mean texture resolution through the roof!

I'm a little confused. It sounds like people aren't too thrilled by the size or specs, but I remember a lot of negativity about Skyrim's smaller size and low specs for fear of the game not taking full advantage of high end PC's. So which do people actually prefer?

Please don't kill me, not trying to be snide, haven't had a gaming PC in years =[

I think for a wide open game like Skyrim, the larger size makes sense in the mind. Larger size = larger world to explore, mentally. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant; it is the perception.

In Max Payne...well, it's never been an open world game like that, so it's off-putting.

cuz R* and their history of PC ports have been questionable.
 
The great PC game conundrum:

New game is 5 GB - Doesn't take advantage of of high end PC hardware and must be a console port.
New game is 35 GB - The game is unoptimized/uncompressed and must be a console port.
 
Ok, could someone please break down how a game like this can weigh in at 35gb? I can see uncompressed movies and huge textures ballooning the size, but what else could it be in this particular case?
 
I just hope that it's Steamworks, and that there isn't a huge texture pack retail purchasers have to download separately. If that is the case I won't be playing launch night.
 
Hmmm, may we finally be seeing 64-bit games? As in ones that actually USE THE RAM rather than just try to make a 64-bit OS purcahse seem more worthwhile? Reminds me of how obscenely long it took for PC games to FINALLY embrace DVDs instead of CDs, while consoles had been on DVD or DVD-derived discs for years.
 
I get the impression that we don't actually have a clue what the recommened settings are for this game.

I just got a PC- Mass Effect 3 runs at 60fps, 1080p and crysis runs close to the same on extreme settings.
Can I expect to be able to play MP3 at 60fps on high?
I'm a noob at this...;-(

edit: slightly off-topic, but I do wish Nvidia and ATI and Intel and AMD would get their fucking naming coordinated, or at least make it less fucking terrible and confusing for the end consumer. Really fucking stupid to keep going with these shitty number codes.

Seriously, that is probably just it. Everything isn't fully compressed. Also could be something related to the use of Euphoria for the animation behaviors and other things. I remember both Force Unleashed games being surprisingly big for how short the games actually were. 15-18GB or something.

I would think so. I think a lot of these higher requirements are taking into consideration running the game at max DX11 with crazy tessellation on everything. Personally, with past games that had similar features such as Crysis 2 and Batman AC. I turned on high tessellation to see what it looked like, then simply turned it off. Doesn't really make a dramatic difference in quality to me.

We will see though. GTA IV is fine to play now, but that was another game that had horrible performance problems at launch. I would say to those people who have reservations about the quality, simply hold off on buying it till you see how it is running on peoples rigs. It's not like steam is offering a discount for pre-ordering it unfortunately.

Tons of high quality audio (eg: dialogue), lots of textures in high resolution, and content spread out across both the campaign and multiplayer.

Honestly, I have no fucking idea how this game can chew up 35GB of data unless Rockstar just went "fuck it" and compressed nothing, but I also don't know how much content is in the actual game, so who knows?

For shits and giggles, lets crunch some install numbers:
RAGE: ~22GB
The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition: ~18GB
Assassin's Creed: Revelations/Brotherhood: ~8.5GB each
Mass Effect 2 with all DLC: ~17GB
Mass Effect 3: ~11.5GB
Battlefield 3: ~15.5GB
Crysis 2 DX11: ~9.5GB
Portal 2: ~11.5GB
Shogun 2, Fall of the Shogun expansion pack, and DLC: ~19.5GB
TESV: Skyrim: ~6GB
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: ~8.5GB
Batman: Arkham City: ~17GB

Nah, I doubt so. More like Rockstar not being able to optimize the PC version well. I remembered it's the same for GTA IV, crazy specs needed to run that game when it was released.

If it was any other developer you would probably find most of us going "woohoo finally a game that pushes the tech" but this is Rockstar we are talking about. A company that has a particularly awful history of PC ports. Let me put it this way you will probably find an i7 with 16gbs of RAM will mean sub 30fps and console quality graphics that is how BAD their PC ports are.
 
Awesome! Finally a game that takes some advantage of a modern PC. So if it supports 16 GB RAM I assume the game has a 64 bit executable? Nice to finally see that.

My condolences for those of you whose Internet is carried through tin cans and string! That won't take that long at all for me, that said, that size is still ridiculous.
 
Can we get a GameStop employee or someone else to verify the manager at my local GS is full of shit.

I went and paid of MP3, and he told me the game comes on one disc and downloads the rest.
