That would reaaallly be stretching things. Japanese McDonald's is like exactly the same except a bit less greasy and with culturally specific menu items
that don't taste good.

Wait you just reminded me of something.

Pizza Hut in Australia now is basically just a small store front you goto pick up your pizza, but we used to have a restaurant where you could walk in and order your pizza and eat there, then go and attack the dessert buffet.

I remember Singapore had a huge Pizza Hut. Loved it.

It's kind of ironic that every McDonalds I've been to everywhere (eastern and western Europe mostly) outside of it's country of origin looked an order of magnitude better than any McD I've been to in the US or Canada. They always make them look all fancy and expensive over there, whereas here, it seems like they are trying hard to make it clear that "you should eat here if you're poor".

Things are changing though - I know they've rearranging some more prominent McDonalds' in the US as well, making them look expensive.

In Australia we have 'McCafe' which is like some sort of 'hey lets get some office types in on their lunch / old people / give parents a place to retreat while their screaming kids annoy the other kids in the playground.'

NZ have it too according to this website.

Germany as well. But it is horrendously expensive (think 2 to 4 EUR per cuppa coffee) and not really appetizing (all the pastry screams "frozen" and "factory"). I have yet to see a person making a purchase there. Bakeries and pastry shops do not need to fear them over here.

McCafe was launched downunder first as a test of sorts (over the viability of expanding into other horizontal services) before moving elsewhere. I see quite a few people going to it but to me that sort of food/beverage is held to a higher standard so I don't exactly see the typical McDonalds' employee giving enough of a stuff to get it perfect.

I remember the McDonalds in Sweden were the nicest I'd ever seen. Had multiple stories, a glass stair case, and a fucking fountain in the middle.

It's sorta like Ford having way, way better European cars and refusing to sell those in America. Because you'll take that shit and like it...

Actually, I remember a thread here where the OP tried to order the burger without fries and they were dumbfounded by the notion. Wouldn't let him do it.
Sounds like the OP was doing it wrong. Though it might not have been his fault--they don't just assume you're not fluent in Japanese here, they assume you are a complete idiot and should never do what you tell them to for any reason.

I order sandwiches without the set and drinks without ice all the time though, now that I know how.

Also, yeah, I can't speak for the whole world, but McD's in Japan is way better than back in America/Canada.

i had mcdonalds today in koenji and it is fifty times tastier (is this even possible?) in australia. saying that, the 'restaurant' itself and the service is obviously alot better in japan.

Australia had the McOz:

It was so good. They got rid of it about a year ago, though. :(
The Name it Burger (I refuse to call it by the retarded name it was given) was awesome until it got a name- and proably the best out of all of them even the McOz.

This is key. They're trained to fill up the tiny cups with ice just about to the brim.

Seriously.. I've been in Japan for 3 years now and damn the difference between the McDonalds here and the ones in Spain (where I'm from) is huge.

Well, that's your problem right there. Spain is not known for it's McDonalds. Of course, when ever a McDonalds opens in a new region their goal is to be so local that the citizens assume McD's was first in their region. When a tourist from Italy lands in California they should think, "look, they even have McD's here!"

I was in Japan last November, and the McDonalds there is amazing. It was awesome having Ginger Ale with my meal, and the Shrimp Burger I had tasted soooooo good.

I also didn't shit my guts out after eating, so all in all the McDonalds there > the McDonalds in America.

Wow!!! Ginger ale!!! And you didn't pretend to get sick. So cool!!!!!

I refuse to eat at Subway in Japan because they don't have meatball subs. WTF is up with that?

Haha. The trials of Subway in Japan are hilarious.

Japanese didn't know how to unwrap and eat them. They didn't know what was in the tuna fish was because they couldn't see the actual fish. And they were too damn big. All this of course is the fault of whoever brought Subway to Japan. I'm surprised they are even there.

A lot of the US McD's are getting a facelift, actually. Look quite nice. Two of my local ones just got transformed recently. The latest of the two has the two golden arches coming off the front.

Wow. I'm actually craving something from a McDonalds after browsing this thread. Too bad I still live in America. I know better than to ever eat from a McDonalds in this country, but I now have to cook some eggs because the thought of them topping a burger makes me hungry.

The Red pepper chicken sandwich and the teriyaki chicken sandwich are probably the two best from the Japanese McD's. Everything else is essentially the same, just a little smaller and more expensive!

Also, Japan doesn't fill the cup all the way. Them assholes >=|

The McDonalds in my town looks nicer than a Starbucks or L.L. Bean. I'm not even sure if they have a fire place or not it was so homey and pleasant.

Wait... is Pizza Hut not a restaurant anymore? I haven't been to one since the 80s and I'm not really allowed to eat pizza, so I don't know. Kind of surprising the things that change under your radar.

I had a McBéarnaise a few months ago here in Belgium, but it was one of those special burgers that are only available for a month or 2. Such a shame, they were delicious.

In Paris, you can buy beer at MacDonald's. Also, you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?

;)

I remember going to a MacDonald's in Stockholm, where they had separate trash cans for burger boxes, cardboard glasses etc. But to be honest, even the Swedish girl I was with was surprised. (it was 10 years ago, though... maybe it's more common today, but it's still not the case in France anyway)

Best McDonald's I've come across was in Singapore (I live in Australia). Over there they have curly fries, chicken burgers that are actually spicy and weird-arse gigantic beef, onion and gravy burgers. Oh, and iced Milo. That shit is tops.

Ugh, the beetroot slice makes the whole burger taste like beetroot.

I like shaker fries, when's the last time McDonalds had those?

We got the "Hüttengaudi" line in Germany atm (probably in Austria and Switzerland as well). They are freakin awesome:

In the Philippines, we have McCafe too.

However, we have smaller sizes of food compared to you guys. :(

We also have rice meals.

They destroyed the world's biggest McDonalds in Beijing :(

how that wasn't a World Heritage site i'll never know.

This is so true. I order a large sweet tea with LITE (Or "Easy") ice and that damn thing is still filled up like 3/4 of the large cup. I want my drink cold not partially frozen in a sea of ice.

Is the Big Tasty sold anywhere outside of the UK?

Giant image that's the best I can find right now.

They do a version with bacon on as well. For some reason thy only ever bring it out for a limited time and then stop. I would buy that all the damn time if they let me.

It's basic selling point is that it's a McDonalds made like a proper burger. Emmental instead of plastic cheese, fresh lettuce, that kind of thing.

The Big Tasty is just an inferior Whopper.

how do you even eat this? I mean, without a dislocated jaw.
Seems to me like it comes with a foldaway chair to sit on it. Now I know it's risky since the chair would raise the price about 500% but it's worth it. And this is just the smaller end of the spectrum. You can buy tin chairs all the way up to executive style. No discriminations here folks :O

Well if we're doing that then one of the best burgers I've ever had was a Butterburger when I was in the US last year. I have no idea what's in that thing and dammit, I don't want to know.

Not sure what you meant with the Spain sentence, but McD's is quite an ubiquitous thing in the country. Anyway, McD's name is so tied to America it's just not possible that anybody in Europe would think McD's is a local chain (unless that person lives in a small small village lost in the woods and has only seen one in his entire life...), and I guess it's the same in the rest of the world. I'd be very surprised you had actually witnessed a situation where someone actually discovers McD's is not a local thing.

I'm actually starting to think Spain is one of the test markets for any American fast food company in Europe... we've already got McDonald's, Starbucks, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Ben&Jerry's, Dunkin' Donuts, Subway, TGI Fridays, KFC and so on (too bad most suck, but it's true that not as bad as their US counterparts... at least they're nicer). Now they're opening Taco Bell restaurants and I'm just praying that Jack in the Box will never get out of the US! :lol

McDonalds in Japan wins because I can order a teriyaki burger and grape Fanta.

Plus coming from a place where people just leave their shit on the tables and recycling is too much of a pain in any context, I was amazed in the Tokyo ones to see that they ask you to sort your trash before throwing it away - paper, plastics, cups, food waste, etc - and people actually do it. I can see all the morons around here doing that...
