Me and My Katamari - 1up.com review

Too lazy to look, but can someone briefly summarize what M&MK brings to the table that makes it stand out from the PS2 installments? Thanks.

the prince is now a fat, nude man.

Hmmm.

It almost sounds like he wanted to give the game a lower score than he did. Regurgitated levels? Boring gameplay? Ouch.

That's just not something you're supposed to say about a Katamari game. Kicking a puppy indeed. :(

Yeah, totally... and a MM3 remake Powered Up style if its so much to ask! Definitely the second best game on PSP right behind the almighty Lumines.

Eh, right person. He's 1UP's "Craig Harris." Well, okay, Craig Harris is the archetype that all of us handheld freaks strive toward. A 7 from ToastyFrog on a handheld game is pretty damn bankable.

Is the soundtrack good?

the only thing that matters in a katamari game

It's pretty much reused tracks from the PS2 games. Not sure if it has any from the sequel, since I never played it, but it definitely has the songs from the original game.

Katamari PSP is a good game, but the control scheme does affect game play and some people are going to outright hate it, IMO. Although I think Namco did some tweaking for the U.S. release?

This was pretty foreseen:

1. Worse controls.
2. Reused music for the most part.
3. Third installment of the series so soon, obviously the formula is going to get old for some.

If you can see past that (get used to the controls, deal with the reused mucic, and still want another Katamari game after the first two) then there should be nothing holding you back from it since it's not like they changed anything much.

Did any of you actually read the review. The 6 maps rearranged in different order constituting all the levels does sound like a major flaw. Goddamn, a bad katamari game can be made, and it has, get over it.

Oh sorry no, I was commenting on the score since people seem to think he judged the game unfairly. I guess that just justifies his score for the game even more.

Ummm...no, the game isn't bad. Where did you get that? Even a 7/10 isn't "bad".

Katamari is a good game, but yes it's not as good as the PS2 ones. That doesn't make it a bad game, just not a 9/10 game like the PS2 ones.

If there's going to be future Katamari games, they really need to do something to spice up the gameplay. Damacy was great fun, with interesting gameplay that felt new. We Love Katamari was more of the same, with the new levels and objectives being welcome, but by the time I was through with the game, I really felt like I had played quite enough. A PSP version of this game that's more of the same doesn't really appeal to me, unfortunately.

Though the neat little Prince PSP carrying case does!

Dammit, I was looking forward to this game.

A score of 7/10 isn't 'horrible' by any means, but honestly a "7" isn't good enough for me. Considering how superlative the PS2 Katamari games were, I was expecting no less than a "9" for this one.

:(
