Medal of Honor - Beta starts June 21st [EA-CONF]

Stoney Mason said:
I was going to mention this also. Bad Company 2 had a beta on PS 3 that came out toward the late part of December for a game that didn't come out until March of the following year.

Medal of Honor beta came out in June/July for the PS 3 and 360 for a game that is coming out in October.

So it's not impossible to put out a buggy beta that comes out awhile before the game comes out that people still enjoy and see the potential in.

The problem is its much harder to see the potential here because the game just feels less good now. Which is a valid criticism.

Putting out an improved beta build for instance would go a long way in improving the perception of the game.

That's the reason, I'm not touching the beta until the patch with all those fixes comes....

The game right now, is bad, and it's the core gameplay which is bad, I think that's beyond fixing, but I want to give it a second chance....

I don't think the gameplay is beyond fixing. Hell just fixing the death lag would improve the beta immensely.

I really am in the minority here, but I actually really like the game right now, yeah it could use some work but I think since this is an early build a lot of my complaints are already fixed, so it looks like I will give this a purchase, plus I'm interested in the campaign also.

Why do game developers give sniper classes remote explosives? :lol Christ, give it to the Specialist class instead of the shotgun.

I'm buying the game for the Frontline remake alone, the sp is just the bonus. :lol

I canceled my preorder based on this "Beta". Realisticly all these "Betas" are just glorified demos. It's marketing spin doctor speak to make the user feel elite and special so they might look at the game in a more favorable light.

What a bunch of fucking crap. The "beta" term has certainly been used like this, but to argue that this is the nature of betas is so far off the mark that it's not even funny. Don't blame developers and their products because some of them have decided to use the term loosely, or because the audience has been duped before.

I'm not saying all betas I'm saying I've been seeing the term beta thrown around a lot. demo access is being called a beta. this is not a beta this is hopes of word of mouth sparking interest in a game.

Beta was good enough for me to warrant a purchase.

However, whether or not I purchase boils down to how EA handles the game. If they release the game with a lot of good content available from the start, I'll buy. If they handle it like BC2 where most of the stuff on the disc isn't available from the start so that they can squeeze money out of used buyers, I probably won't even bother renting it.

Well i guess you won't be getting the game then ;)

EA have a nice workable model for their FPS games now. Early adopters get lots of stuff and codes to access extra modes, weapons etc and used buyers get screwed over.

Not fair but hey.

you mean people who play alone and buy new get lots of stuff and people with family get screwed over. the VIP code is account locked, not system wide, unlike ... well, everything else on the systems.

feels just like CoD. hyper fast player movement speed, no recoil, super easy knifing. Activision should sue...

CoD is much faster, not to mention BC2 also took "super easy knifing" compared to BC1 and little to no recoil on majority of guns.

Not even worth arguing. The game play nothing like COD for the most part when it comes to actual controls and playing the game. Conceptually it's similar to COD all over the place. But the game feels nothing like it. If it did I might actually like it.

The game feels and plays like some weird amalgam of Bad Company of Call of Duty yet inferior to both by a pretty large margin at this beta stage.

The fuck? The knifing animation in BC2 makes it very hard to knife someone in movement...

And little to no recoil?...yeah,right...

I agree, I posted similar impressions earlier in the thread.

The videos I've seen of the later build does look much better than it is now, but we'll see.

First thing that needs to get fixed is Hit-Dectection ffs.

Death lag aint that important to gameplay, just annoying.

Urgh. If they are using it to test things such as netcode and general performance, and gathering this test information to improve and/or alter the game, then it is a traditional beta test. Examples of traditional betas for console games include Killzone 2 and Warhawk. Now, adding a marketing component to it has become an unfortunate new standard, but that doesn't make it any less of a beta test.

I agree. This is a beta in its purest sense. Too bad the word "beta" has been thrown around so often wether it's a work in progress like Medal of Honor currently is, or a beta to stress test the online for a game that's basically finished.

I agree also in that this game feels way more similar to BC2 then it does COD. The head bob animation, reloading. Only it feels lighter/sped up a bit more than BC2. I also had to bump the sensitivity way up for it to feel good to me. The default sens feel too slow to me.

I still have the game pre-ordered. I'm really hoping DICE pull it together in the end. The beta felt pretty rough but if they can tighten everything up: hit detection, death lag/freeze, controls, it could be kind of cool.

Plus I'm anxious to try the single player portion of the game plus getting a remastered version of Frontline (a game I played a lot on PS2) thrown in is pretty sweet.

I wouldn't call it fair, or nice. Early adopters get shit. Or shit on, rather. Before the game was released they liked to talk mess about how IW treated their community, about dedicated servers, not charging for maps, bla blah. And then more or less half of the maps are inaccessible on launch. First now, four months later, does EA allow us to play all the Rush and Conquest maps they created for the game, put on the disc, and locked away. That's what we get. And all the nonsense that comes with the non-transferable, single use, one account code.

I still have hope for Medal of Honor's campaign, but if EA's employing a system similar to the VIP membership I'm gonna have to say no thanks regardless of the game's quality. It's the worst.

Downloaded the beta from Steam. It's a Call of Duty clone, inside-out and it fails. Hell, I actually went back to CoD4 and guess what? It plays a whole lot better than this shit. I'm not impressed.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the campaign myself, it's really the multiplayer I'm concerned with. If anything, I wish they would release an updated build of the MP beta and put my fears to rest.

MOH is much closer in speed to COD. BC2's knife is pretty slow and has a very narrow arc compared to BC1's wide swinging motion while MOH's knife is a super fast version of BC2's, which is quite similar to COD. the recoil in BC2 is very apparent compared to MOH.

So I pre-ordered this game on friday and still have not recieved my beta key from amazon. Am I suppose to do something special? This is fucking ridiculous.

Nevermind, they aren't offering the beta from Amazon anymore. Is this even worth the trouble?

Exactly. Never thought I would see the day when gamers would be OK with having content on the disc they paid for, kept from them so that a company they already gave their money to can milk money from other people. It's fucking disgusting and if they do it with MoH I will pass on it, which sucks for them because going up against the CoD juggernaut, they're going to need all the sales they can get. I'll still Gamefly it though just for the SP campaign.

MoH is like a slightly faster version of BC2. The recoil seems about the same, the movement seems about the same just a little tigher in MoH and the knifing works exactly the same for me. MW1 and MW2 are a hell of a lot faster than the MoH beta. Not even close, even with the tiny beta MoH map.

Cease fire! After six weeks, the Medal of Honor beta will be ending for the PlayStation 3 and PC on July 31st, 2010. We at DICE appreciate all of you who took the first step toward Tier 1 and participated in the beta – your contribution is invaluable and will only help improve the final game. Unfortunately, a PC beta patch will not be released. We have implemented a number of changes and fixes, however, that will appear in the final game – many of which were originated from your feedback! Here are a few of those:

• Improved hit detection
• Breath control for all classes
• Crash fixes
• Improved control input mapping
• In-game HUD polished
• All weapon stats are now updated in the spawn menu
• Spawn points tweaked

For our Xbox fans, the battle rages on! The beta will be extended for the Xbox 360 until August 9th, 2010. Thank you to all of you for continuing to provide us with excellent feedback!

On October 12, we hope to see you back on the battlefield! Please continue to visit our forums, Twitter page, and Facebook page for further Medal of Honor updates.

wonder what's breath control

darkwing said:

When using sniper rifles, you have to press L3, to control your breath so the weapon dosn't move when aiming, so your aiming is steady for a few seconds, then the aiming becomes totally unstable

Totally necessary, because snipers are in dissaventage, since most AR are probably as deadly at long range (as long range this game can be, of course), steady when aiming and zero to none recoil.

Edit:I'm surprised I played enough to unlock sniper rifles, I supose it was curiosity,

wait they're adding in breath control when nobody asked for it? :lol What they need to do is increase the recoil, bullet spread and add lean.

I´m a little bit annoyed!
I was playing the Beta on PS3 a while ago. But now I have a code to redeem for Xbox360 but I cant redeem it!
I have cleared cookies etc but when I log on to the official Beta site etc I cant redeem my new code because it says "Thanks etc Heres your code for Playstation Network etc"
Anyone else encountered this problem?

Alright...
Anyone wanna play the Beta on Xbox 360?

43U6-4LP2-CE37-8UHB

Already used... :(

If anyone else has one to throw around, I'd appreciate being able to have a go at this game. Though, it's looking fairly sub-par so far.

Man the tank controls are fucking horrible in this game. And is there any way to see how many points you need to level up?

P.S. This game is ugly as fuck and the menus suck.

So I just got my hands on the beta and I wanted to ask, anyone know when its ending on the 360? I know it ends on the 9th :( but how long do I have to try it out? or am I going to try and cram some games now before the guys pull the switch.

It's ending by tomorrow night at most...

Meh I played for about 45 minuites, thats all I need with it to say that its not really for me.

Is it just me or are there REALLY bad clipping issues? In the 45 minuites I played the most frustrating thing was the number of times the walls would sort of push me away, I kept getting absorbed through walls or shoves away from them.

Sorry I bailed earlier, had to take care of some stuff but as far as this Beta goes I played like 2 games and it was enough to tell me that it is garbage. :lol

I thought it was being extended by a tonne for the 360 guys? Damn. I wanted to try it.

As someone who loves COD4 to death (and BC2 to a much lesser extent), does this game play better (or as well) as those two?
