Did you guys have the same expectations for Viva Pinata? Why would you be sad about LBP? Be sad for the company that didn't make a game that the Japanese market wanted.

What are you talking about?

Someone on the internets leaked the Media Create numbers 12+ hours ago. No one thought they were real, but they are indeed real, it seems.

01. [NDS] Kirby Super Star Ultra - 265,654 / 265,654 (52.22%)
02. [NDS] Rhythm Heaven - 39,891 / 1,129,002 (94.18%)
03. [NDS] Wagamama Fashion: Girl's Mode - 37,411 / 153,561 (91.44%)
04. [NDS] Pokemon Platinum - 36,670 / 1,890,350 (96.16%)
05. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto IV - 35,851 / 168,526 (89.76%)
06. [NDS] Valkyrie Profile: Toga o Seoumono - 32,569 / 112,329 (68.42%)
07. [PSP] Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, PSP the Best - 19,048 / 44,464 (61.13%)
08. [NDS] Personal Trainer: Walking - 18,465 / 44,656 (21.61%)
09. [PS3] Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Spec III - 16,927 / 51,892 (37.16%)
10. [PS3] LittleBigPlanet - 16,095 / 68,610 (52.81%)

15. [PS2] Wrestle Angels: Survivor 2 - 11,602 / 11,602 (72.74%)

And also included hardware:

DSi 104,897
PSP 43,726
Wii 24,726
PS3 18,354
X360 12,759
DSL 8,381
PS2 5,743

Take them as you will, but as I said, the numbers were 12 hours old, and are just too close to be a good guess.

Seeing as how you have 8 posts, I doubt it.

(Says one noob to another).

Probably shipment sell-through.
ah, noob ridicule; it's all laid out pretty plainly in the FAQ's. :D

side note: 360 bounced again. LR hype?

Most likely from the value pack that was advertised and released this week. Katamari + AC6 packaged with the 360.

If the 360 hardware is to believed (and I think it should, given the accuracy of the other listings), the jump in X360 hardware is due to the new value bundle in Japan - For 29,800 yen, you get a lot of extras including Beautiful Katamari and Ace Combat 6.

Such an increase would kill 2 birds with 1 stone: Explaining the major drop MC reported for the X36 last week (dropped 1,500 units on the week, whilst it had stayed in the 7-8k area for over a month), and the massive rise this week to 12k.

Microsoft is a week away from having their best year in Japan ever. Which is amazing, given the fact that in June, they were well behind 2007's pace (around 50,000 units).

They've certainly had their best 2nd half ever by a long shot.

RTG success is welcomed and Girls Mode is doing well also. Wouldn't be surprised to see a NA localization announce for GM later.

come on LBP reach 100k, also looking at PS3 Top 10, didn't Famitsu just post what was top 10 for the year so far in which MGS4 was like 8 or 9 with 660k or am I imaging this?

That PS3 top 10 is based on famitsu data per garaph up through 10-20, I think. So GT5P would be on there, but not any million sellers.

When is Last Remnant for PS3? I'm curious about Last Remnant and Rune Factory Wii's sales.

Also it's too bad Wind of Nostalgeo and Avalon Code :(

What is the original Layton's LTD? Or the second one for that matter? Is it possible with the release of the third coming up it could push either one over a million units?

I know, it sucks watching good games bomb (Okami and VF5 come to mind). The Japanese market seems very unpredictable outside of handhelds.
It's not that unpredictable:

Square Enix = 80% chance of success
Second placed console + established IP = 50% chance of success
New IP = 10% chance of success

The Japanese market is traditionally very trend-driven. If something becomes popular there, it does so very quickly.

It's not unpredictable that Western made games like LBP don't do very well in sales over there. That is very predictable.

Superior Mario Galaxy would like to have a word with you.

Western made platformers have done pretty well in the past. The Banjo games did excellently, as have the Ratchet games in the past few years. LBP is a "dead genre" console game exclusive to PS3. Considering it was sent to die, it's doing pretty well.

it's probably too much to ask to look at SMG sales, right?
