Uhh no, I'm pretty sure this has been the worst selling Fire Emblem game to date.
And if you look next to the Fire Emblem LTD of 110000, you'll see the "58", indicating it only sold through 58% of its shipment.
PoR sold ~150,000 and I very much doubt the new FE is done yet. Where's the bomb?

Wait...I thought demand for the Wii was dying?? :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'd say this proves its definitely supply constrained..

Hmm, I thought that PoR did about 200k. Guess I was wrong.
In any case, I was still basing it off the fact that it only sold 58% of its shipment.

All three Sony systems sharply down (percentage-wise), the 360 down, and the GBA down. The other three Nintendo systems up. Return to form for the Wii and business as usual for the DS.

"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report

In last week’s MC thread I posted information about hardware and software availability in my smallish town. It was requested that I do this every week. So as long as you find it useful I will make these posts.

My town is in Oita Prefecture (in the Kyushu Region) the population is 80,000 (or 60,000 before it merged with 4 surrounding small villages), which is quite small by Japanese standards.

I will track sales from all the stores that sell video games. They are:

2 department stores that sell games (Jusco and Youme Town)
1 discount store with a very small game section. (Mr.Max)
1 manga/anime/game store (Book-net)
1 porn store that tries to look legitimate buy having a small game/DVD section in the front and a massive porn section behind a curtain. (Goody)
1 electronics chain store with a game section (Best Denki)
2 dedicated game stores (Wanpaku and Famicom Dojo)

Most anecdotal reports come from big cities like Tokyo and Osaka and in those places people will line up for new games and things sell out all the time. It doesn’t always paint a very accurate picture of Japan outside of metropolitan areas. My numbers are not supposed to represent Japan, but are just my observations based on the town I happen to live in.

This week I was asked to look for: Wii hardware, DS lite, Layton and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. I went Thursday March 22, 2007:

Jusco
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold Out
Layton: 1 copy
DQM:J 3 copies

Youme Town
Wii: Sold Out
DS lite: 1 (pink)
Layton: Sold Out
DQM:J 1 copy

Mr. Max
Wii: Sold Out
DS lite: sold out
Layton: Sold out
DQM:J Sold out

Book-Net
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: sold out
Layton: Sold out
DQM:J Sold out

Goody
Wii: Never had any to begin with
DS lite: 1 used (white) Selling for only 200 yen less than a new one
Layton: Sold Out
DQM:J 1 used copy

Best Denki
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: Sold out
Layton: Sold out
DQM:J Sold out

Wanpaku
Wii: Sold out
DS lite: Sold out
Layton: Sold out
DQM:J Sold out

Famicom Dojo
Wii: 1 used
DS lite: Sold out
Layton: Sold out
DQM:J Sold out

NOTES:

1. The used Wii at Famicom Dojo is only a few days old. Last week a man bought it and Fire Emblem brand new. After 4 days he sold it and the game back. It seems that was the only game he was interested in for the Wii after he beat it he was done with the system. The owner of Famicom Dojo tells me that several people did the same thing with Metal Gear: Portable ops. and the PSP.

2. I couldn’t find a copy of Sim City DS in any of the stores. At least in my city this title is supply constrained.

3. Wanpaku had made a huge cardboard Gundam last week as a display for the PS3 Gundam game. I wanted to take a picture of it, but as of yesterday, they had already taken it down. In its place is a brand new Blu-Ray display case with about 20 titles.

4. With a bit of looking one could find a Wii (if you don’t mind used), DS lite and both of the games in my town, but no store had them all and most stores had none of them. I would say that while not impossible to find they are still not common.

5. Playstation 3 was available at every store except the Manga/Anime/Game store.

6. I was talking to Hiro (the owner of Famicom Dojo) and he told me about selling games in the 1980’s. He said that at his store the Famicom was supply constrained for more than 3 years. People would come every day asking if Nintendo had shipped any more. Tired of having all these customers go home empty handed he tried to sell the Epoch Super Cassette Vision. But people wanted Mario and wouldn’t settle for anything less.

PSP is still selling extremely high - MH2 is really a killer-app in that respect. And I wonder if the 360 will overtake the PS2 this year in weekly sales, if the PS2 keeps on falling at the same rate.

Fire Emblem 9 for Gamecube supposedly sold about 150k in Japan LTD.

The series gets far less credit than it deserves, although the "perma-death" is a massive no-no for some people. :-/

Don't get me wrong, I wish it was doing better, but I'd expect it to reach PoR sales eventually.

PoR was pretty much a bomb, too, though. Comparing Wii software sales to GameCube software sales is about as productive as comparing them to PS3 software sales. It's like saying, "Yeah, you just beat a paraplegic in a footrace, kudos."

Jesus, right back into the basement for the PS3. The PS2 is all but dead, but at least the PSP is still putting in good numbers. The Wii follows its usual pattern, the DS is the DS, nothing else really out of the ordinary.

You deserve some props dude. Good job

Nintendo owns Japan. And luckily for them, third party developers seem to be waking up now

Granted, but I would also point out that for the time being at least the Wii has a much smaller installed base than the GC had when PoR was released. Also it's supply constrained, so the people like Vinnk mentions who want a Wii primarily to play FE may still be having a hard time finding one.

BTW: Thanks for the info Vinnk! Very useful. I'm surprised to hear Layton is so hard to find.

Jesus Christ, Nintendo is laughing to the ****ing bank. I mean, its been said before...but 38 DS and 7 Wii titles, 60,000 Wii?

Very LTTP here, but again: DS is just plowing through the competition. 38 of the Top 50 on DS, 45 of the Top 50 are on Nintendo platforms. It's just ridiculous.

Yes. Last week or the week before. This week's total is 1,005,000 I think.

Hrm... The sales of MHP2 makes me question whether MHP will make it to a million. it still has 70k or 80k with its sequel now tearing up the charts. I was expecting a bump up with people getting the first along in the second, but I think MHP2 is eating the sells of 1. But on the bright side, MHP2 might get to also be the PSP's first 2 million seller. Definitely if it can keep the legs that 1 had, and you know it's going to get a 'best' release too.

Very nice report, Vinnk. Very, very nice indeed.
I hope that DSL will not have 3 years constrain, like Famicom did.

Now I'm all paranoid about the source of these numbers. :( What has become of Media Create theads!?

Wii comparisons: At 16 weeks, Wii is where GameCube was at 66 weeks (December 15, 2002), DS was at 12.4 weeks (February 22, 2005), and where PS2 was at 14.5 weeks (June 7, 2000).

PS3 comparisons: At 19 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 1.9 weeks (March 11, 2000), PSP was at 8.5 weeks (February 2, 2005), where GCN was at 14.9 weeks (December 22, 2001), and where Wii was at 3.8 weeks (December 22, 2006).

PS3 vs Wii: The weekly share percentages are 24.4% and 75.6%. The total share percentages are 29.7% and 70.3%. If PS3 continues at this rate and Wii stops selling, PS3 catches up in 49.0 weeks (February 24, 2008). If the flip occurs and PS3 continues at Wii's rate and vice-versa, PS3 catches up in 23.3 weeks (August 28, 2007).

DS vs PS2: At this week's rates, DS and PS2 meet in 43.0 weeks (January 12, 2008) at 20.95 million units apiece.

The source is the same as the past few weeks on 2ch, they aren't VGC. Most are from ruliweb I'd gather.
