Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2015 (Aug 31 - Sep 06)

Persona 5, Winning Eleven (even with it's diminished sales in recent years), and Star Ocean 5 come to mind. I might be missing a few mid-tier sellers.

There are also western games that should do decent numbers. For example COD will probably sell more on PS4 than traditional Japanese game like Star Ocean. Dunno about Battlefront but BF3 and 4 did pretty well too and as far as I know Star Wars is also pretty popular in Japan. Going to be interesting to see. Fallout 4 could also do decently as Skyrim sold pretty well.

Agreed.

Especially as Famitsu seems to have picked up on the fact that download cards were very popular this time around due to physical stock shortages. Same thing happened with Splatoon.

Will need to wait for a couple of months to truly gage how successful the launch and first few weeks were.

Splatoon was completely sold out and if download cards were the reason for the higher famitsu numbers the big difference would be at PS4 not PS3.

Dragon Quest Builders should be big in numbers. Really fits a whole with the japan market. Expect to see millions in sales...

Edit: Nintendo should be very worried having not that game coming to any of their systems.

I don't see how DQ Builders could have changed either 3DS or Wii U fates at this point; it's PS4 which really needs software right now. 3DS got DQM Joker 3 which is the sequel of one of the best-selling DQM games (1.2-1.4 million units across the two entries).

Metal Bomb Solid....lol jk, it sold pretty well. Though, it boosted the PS4 less than what MGSIV boosted PS3. Splatoon is getting inked though, and Wii U is in danger again. Good thing Super Mario Maker comes out this week, to give Wii U enough of a boost to stay over 10K a while longer. And looks like Mario Kart 7 ended up over Smash Bros. 3DS according to Famitsu. Mario Kart > Smash Bros. confirmed. :P

And Captain Toad showed up again! :D

Why's that Chris?

What would you say is the reason for the higher famitsu numbers then?

I would say it's more a matter of how each tracker "tracks" their respective stores. We know Famitsu has been doing weird things lately. I do expect Famitsu balancing Metal Gear numbers during these coming weeks, though.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was PS3 exclusive though.

At Bic Camera Hachioji, there are lots of Mario Maker stuff.

Mario Maker amiibo are also expected to move.

Yodobashi did run out of PS4 copies last weekend, but they got a new shipment on Monday.

I don't think MGSV was really hurt by stock problems. I'm still expecting a ~80% drop next week for the PS4 version.

In Shibuya TSUTAYA there are no problems. They said the current version is the PS4 SKU and the limited edition is available as well.

It's worth pointing out that Famitsu's tracking sampling has always leaned more hardcore game-wise. Could just be that the stores in their sampling sold a higher percentage of the MGSV total than the ones in MC's sampling, then. At this point, it's arguing about the number of angels dancing on the head of a pin as to the specific reason why Famitsu is higher. The more hardcore leaning tracking and the fact that Famitsu tracks DL cards and MC doesn't would be two potential contributing reasons, whatever the final reason is.

Thanks. Super Mario Maker is a Mario game after all, so advertisement was expected even though Wii U installed base will limit its potential.

Samples must be representative of the whole population, therefore each bias should be corrected eventually.

Difference between trackers for MGS is nothing new, specially regarding the PS3 version

Is this a good debut for MSGV? Honest question.

Well, it's one of the most consistent franchises in the Japanese video game market, so this debut is not totally unexpected. It remaines to see how it'll perform in the long-run: PS3 sw sales are declining, and PS4 installed base is not that big, so these two factors might cut sales.

So probably at least 500k for MGS. That'd a solid number.

Last-gen versions have not been justified at all really across Europe and Asia it seems. I would wager the trend will follow in North America.

Really wondering if last gen versions will do even 500k combined ltd worldwide. Both versions completely bombed in UK (under 10k combined) and going by chart positions also in Germany.

well, with a 100k opening and a bundle, I do expect some sort of increase, but weren't the COMGNET preorder pretty low (lower than Splatoon ones)?

Mandatory Baisaku cit here: Mario is dead

On comgnet for preorders...
[WiiU] Super Mario Maker - 81pt - Is this low now? Not sure how Pikmin 3 fared on comgnet for example.

Edit: Looks like it's higher than Pikmin 3 (74) and Mario 3D World (70) at least

Forza 6 will save Xbox in japan, if it doesn't then we can officially say the- well i guess we should wait for Halo first before we bury it.

Is MGSV not available there on Xbone? You'd think that version could crack the top 20.

It did chart on Famitsu.

PS4 this week 54.494

Xbox One LTD 54.813

Puts into perspective how bad Xbox is doing in Japan. After they sold over 1.6 million 360s, MS must have expected a lot better than this.

Why would you think this? putting things into perspective, the Xbox One is selling the same rate as the 360 is the numbers are lower. You also must realize the majority of the 360's sales were frontloaded and a lot of that 1.6 million was horrible sales for years.

But when you apply the current state of japanese consoles sales, this is pretty much the same thing. Heck, one could argue the Xbox One is doing better than the 360.

It's kind of weird that Xbox One still seems to be so expensive. You'd think that with these numbers after this long they'd be out there at fire sale prices.

A fire sale would only work if they get a decent return. if their 300 unit a week return jumps to anything less than 10,000 and BF type sale in japan wouldn't mean a thing, and that would have to either increase over time or stay stable.

I am wandering why people are interested in second week performance when the last 4 games in the series and this game in the series all have followed same trend.. I think the second week will be no different and will be about 50k on PS4 and 20k on PS3

I think that, with digital, MGSV is the best first week in the franchise.

This.

People who are comparing MGS4 sale with MGSV sales and saying MGS4 did better at launch are forgetting that a digital version of MGS4 wasn't available at launch like MGSV.

There were people who pre-ordered the digital version, but also people who normally wouldn't buy the digital version but chose to, because a lot of stores didn't have it in stock.

Heh, MGS seems pretty consistent FW in Japan. Glad it did well. PS4 boost is very nice too.

Otherwise ehh. Are the new Vita colours next week?

Cube Creator 3D is now above Tomodachi Collection digital (130K?)
I missed this in the other thread. Hasn't it outsold all the console Minecrafts then? I wonder if it can catch Vita digital?

ArcSys should seriously consider doing a retail release. It's already going to be their best selling game this gen.
