Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2015 (Aug 31 - Sep 06)

good to hear smm selling well, lets hope it has good legs, thats the only thing i worry (i know that sounds funny for a mario game)

I think you should have quoted the post affirming a 50% split between the two version, not the one that stated your same opinion :p
i already owned up to my mistake >.<

still i do think ps4 will have a bigger portion of the sales than people think, just my gut feeling

Very nice numbers for MGSV, it almost completely sold out on PS4. Shame we will probably never get report about week1 PS4 digital sales [which I presume are fairly high].

Taiko PSV is struggling to reach 100k:

[PSV] Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version - 1.892 / 86.620 (-29%)

Not, really that surprising considering PSV handhelds sold in the same ballpark as WiiU in the past weeks in Japan. At least there´ll be new colours to push some hardware soon enough, in the same week there´s also the launch of Revelations 2, but the latter doesn´t look to perform well at all at comg so far.

I don't think Taiko Vita's at all in danger of not reaching 100k. It's still hanging on the charts and still has the holidays ahead of it.

  • - Media Create ~ 10232
    - Famitsu ~ 10197
    - Degenki ~ 10700

And Splatoon below the 20k mark on all 3 trackers.

It seems this week the Wii U was barely hanging by the thread of a hair to retain what little it gained from the Splatoon effect. This makes the timely release of Mario Maker he most interesting to see what possible impact it might have in prolonging the " rejuvenating" effect XD

I'd be surprised if Splatoon doesn't close the gap to MK8 to 15K next week and overtake MK8 the week after that. The SSM boost in Hardware is going to be a net positive for the squids. First big title after Splatoon.

Okay, I realize it's very early, but the insane instant upswing to Rank 3 at launch was too funny not to share:

IDOLM@STER

Well considering how this game forces my hand to hand over my credit card for that sweet sweet Shiburin and Anya, i can believe how great this game here.

Not only the game is brimming with quality on waifu, it also had fun rhythm game, fully voice acting Story mode, New story mode for each character and of course the new my house mechanic where we can create our own studio for our idol to stay and interact.

This is the ultimate Idolmaster experience here.^_^

Maybe. Nevertheless, during holidays Namco will release a Taiko x Idolmaster game on PSV that might cut the small legs the game would have had.

That collaboration is going to be huge here. It is going to eat up the current Taiko sale for sure. Vita fanbase is going to eat up the title alive.^_^

So I was having a discussion with someone and had a quick question.

What games for 3DS/Wii U has Nintendo announced for 2016 in Japan?

Like, it can even be a 2000 yen budget game releasing on January 1st, but I'm just wondering about which Nintendo published titles are slated for the year in Japan specifically.

Gamefaqs says:

Wii U Pokken Tournament Q2 2016 Japan
3DS Mario & Luigi RPG: Paper Mario MIX TBA 2016 Japan
Wii U Mario & Sonic at Rio Olympics TBA 2016 Japan
3DS Mario & Sonic at Rio Olympics TBA 2016 Japan

For 3DS theres:
Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi
Metroid: Federation Force

There's also the 3DS port of Hyrule Warriors, but pretty sure Koei Tecmo will be publishing that one.

WiiU is getting Pokken and maybe Zelda, that's about it, although Pokken might be published by TPC.

Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 (unless Sega's publishing?), Metroid PFF, Mario & Luigi 5 and of course Zelda U are it I think. Also Pokkén although that'll technically be TPC.

Thanks. That's less than I thought actually, but I couldn't remember anything when asked earlier.

I think I was mentally mixing in some Western localizations.

That looks like it might actually all be out by Q2 (sans Zelda).

It's not like 3DS needs them and WiiU is the WiiU.

Any other system would kill to have a final year (or any year) with games like Ace Attorney 6, completely new Monster Hunter series, mainline Dragon Quest, numbered Yokai Watch and a new Dragon Quest Monsters.

Ha, I've been trying to not get into what the conversation was about since some people in the thread were complaining, but basically my sister asked me when the NX was coming out since she just bought Mario Maker and noticed the absence of upcoming Wii U games and I said "Most likely in Fall 2016. There was a rumor for Summer, but they're releasing the following games then ____________." and was having trouble filling the blank.

That said I think it's still much likelier for Fall with a gap given the third party content.

Fall/December is more likely, yeah. It's September, they can and will announce games for Q2/Q3 in the coming months.

And there is that Pokemon game teased for 2016.

3DS still needs some AA 3rd-party games to fill in next year, the noted ones like MH, AA, and such aren't enough.

Nintendo needs to save like, EVERYTHNG they have for the NX console and handheld, because both 3DS and Wii U had pretty terrible launch titles from them. I doubt anyone was first in line to buy either day 1 for Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, Nintendoland, or New Super Mario Bros U you know?

Twilight Princess and Excite Truck on Wii and also Super Mario 64 DS on DS were incredible launch titles from Nintendo alone (I bought a DS day 1 for that. ;) ).

Hopefully Nintendo learned that lesson. They need something people legit can't miss from day 1.

MHS could attract some (younger) audience - and then there's The Snack World which might be an utter flop or another Level-5 hit (which could drive hw sales since it needs NFC technology).

The 3DS should be fine with whatever comes out.

The system is only down 12% year over year and there should be enough random bundles and games to keep it at a decent number for the one remaining year where it's their newest handheld.

Unless you mean the West, then that's a lost cause, but I think it's a bit moot since their brand reboot is going to either work or not work regardless.

YSO predictions

Week 38, 2015 (Sep 14 - Sep 20)

[3DS] Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon < 160k (average 145k)
[WIU] Super Mario Maker < 60k (average 50k)
[3DS] Dragon Quest VIII < 40k (average 35k)

wii u is left for dead for ages now

they solely focusing on nx games and they can easily pump out a big game or two for 3ds next year to keep sales from tumbling too much

3ds doing worse numbers is a given, so even if they fail to support it well next year, it hardly matters as nx is around the corner

of course the other possibility is that 3ds gets solid support for 1-2 year if nx isn't the replacement for it too

Edit: oh missed the week number.

I honestly can't see the 3ds hanging around for another year worldwide in the state that it's in. I do wonder if the NX is the brand for both platforms which platform would launch first if it's not a dual launch

Yikes at those YSO Mario Maker predictions. I expected it to do closer to 3D World than Yoshi/Kirby/DKCR.
please don't do this again, my heart is fragile

hasn't it been doing better than last year in the US?

Oh, whew!

I feel dumb now, although I guess that someone has to mix up weeks whenever Chris posts YSO predictions so it might as well be my turn.

Don't worry, I'll do it next week :)

I don't think DQ VIII is going to reach a million in Japan.
That was clear 1st week imo. It should finish up around 850k I think, and maybe squeeze an extra 50-100k out of a budget reprint?

I do wonder how it'd have done if we hadn't recently gotten that janky Unity port on mobile?

It's going to be down a lot more than 12% after we hit the point where New 3DS launched last year.

I still think Pikmin 4 will end up being a Wii U game. We'll probably get Mario Golf on Wii U in 2016 too, I have no idea what else though. Maybe another HD remaster?

it's on its way out anyway, it's gonna be replaced within the next 1-2 years, so i don't think nintendo has to do much, it's gonna get support either way, nothing like the position that late wii/wii u was in

it's above last year's numbers by a good margin and it hasn't been far off on a month to month basis, it's pretty stable

new 3ds launched during the nov/dec holiday season, even if it does worse it won't be alot as it'll enjoy good sales anyway

i dont see why u guys are so sure it'll be down so drastically like that when it hasn't shown that all year

the drop it shows in nov/dec will mostly be made up by feb/march numbers this year, so it evens out in the end
