That's not what I meant. I mean, there's this MK game that you want to buy but has no date, no box , nothing and it's going to come out in another vague 6 months. But now you have money, you know its going to be released in a month, you want to play OoT too, and maybe 3DL along the way, you also know that TGS passed and Iwata is still in place and 3DS not only wasn't discontinued, but also got MH4 and a slide-pad and no redesign was announced.

It's not going to increase the sales significantly, but maybe 10% :)P)

This year will best 2004, and probably 2010. Everything would have to be exceptional to do any better, but who knows.

To continue the discussion before, I think people are underestimating how much growth Nintendo accomplished in Europe this generation. The 3DS should have no problems best the sales of its American counterparts. But as Chris said, and I have said before, November and December will be the deciding factors on if they will reach their FY targets or not. However two things to consider 1) the price drop is working, at least in the short term, 2) we don't exactly know the effect Mario 3D Land or MK7 will have upon the 3DS's sales momentum after the holidays. But it is one hell of a one, two punch.

Actually, they suck at it, and they've managed to drag bad news out across a long period of time.

July 2010: Miss, leave forecasts alone, announce they'll be announcing the price and release date of 3DS in 3 months.

Sep 2010: Cut profit and revenue forecast

Jan 2011: Cut units forecast.

March 2011: Miss on everything, paper launch new hardware in a "weird to whom it may concern" letter.

July 2011: Miss, reduce earnings, profits, and units forecasts again. Huge price drop for a brand new system.

That is not a company doing a good job forecasting and managing expectations. That's a company that has no idea how bad the situation is. I think they may have finally turned it around, but the last few years have been a train wreck.

In the years when the Wii and DS were at their height they were releasing overly conservative forecasts, and would periodically update them throughout the year.

Also the high level of market volatility over the past year or two has certainly had an impact on making reliable forecasts.

Yeah other than the last two years, they have either been modest and underpredict their sales, or spot on.

So I think they will try to reach their current target. I'm not saying they will but...

Seems like Just Dance could be a little under 100k for the week with Ace Combat sitting right above it. Rhythm Heaven also got a bit of a bump this week, probably from the ads (assuming they started the push already).

3DS sales should be interesting, wonder how much they dip due to the Pink color releasing, or do we see a significant dip at all.

I have a feeling Mario is going to be huge. At least better than SM64DS

Just Dance doesn't surprise me at all. I suspect it'll be big, so yay another lost opportunity because SCEJ is the least co-ordinated with the Sony Music division...

Just Dance is also a Rhythm game. Makes sense for now. But I think both will hover in or around the top ten through the holidays.

Can I suggest a future prediction? The first week that Vita unit sales will exceed 3DS unit sales. Because I don't think we'll see it this year.

Reasonable start for jd I expected a bit more but legs should be good I can see at least 400k by xmas, 3ds going up is a shock I expected a slight drop or stabilty next week though should be insane with the pink release, 90k? 100k even?

What do you mean? That the first week of sales of the Vita is going to exceed the LTD sales of the 3DS or that it will exceed the sales of the 3DS for that same week?

For that week.

I hadn't anticipated shortages, though. Although the next *big* shortage is likely to hit both platforms at the same time.

Hmm.....

Given Vita is launching on not only one of the two strongest weeks for DS, but the week after Monster Hunter, and little more than 2 weeks after Mario Kart... I don't think we'll see it take the #1 spot for a while to come.

If it sits in front of 3DS for anything more than a total of 5 weeks next year, I will eat my hat.

Edit: Oh, shortages could mess it up. So ignoring shortages. But I don't think there will be (significant) 3DS shortages after the end of January.
