Famitsu Sales: 12/09/19 – 12/15/19 [Update]

Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of December 9, 2019 to December 15, 2019.

Wtf @ the Switch, 236k. Will it go nonstop until the post-holiday lull?! I thought it'd just be an one or two week lasting bump when it first reached these numbers but it's been constant since. And all top 10 software is Switch except #2 PS4/Sakura Wars new release (140k, nice).

Probably wasn't obvious from the Gematsu link, but Switch is actually doing worse this December compared to last year (Smash was insane last year and thus Switch sold close to 290-300K for 3 weeks straight). It's doing better overall this year though compared to 2018.

It's pretty fascinating to see the complete and utter domination of the Switch in Japan.

The Switch is a beast in the East.

Yup. Although it's partly because everything else is just dead and PS4 will finally have a holiday campaign next week (thus sales dropped even further this week). 2020 is going to continue to be all Switch apart from little blips of PS4 software with FF7R and some other titles. To be fair, Switch is still significantly behind 3DS in terms of hardware numbers in Japan, although it's about even in software thus far. 3DS peaked fairly early though (2nd/3rd year since it sold 5.6M in its 2nd year, 4.9M in its 3rd).

Switch Pacman-ing like crazy. Such a pity we don't have fun with that anymore. People take all that success and domination for granted these days. I still remember back in 2005 the "Easter" period with the DS. Great times.
