I actually caught The Expendables II on cable the other week. I shut it off half-way through. Holy shit is that movie bad. Get these guys a script-writer.

That Chuck Norris scene might just be the worst thing ever.

A cast alone doesn't make a movie, i only saw the first one but it was some straight to DVD "B" level shit. It was crap, poor action sequences, even worse performances from the entire cast, i don't even remember what the story was but it was hard to sit trhough it all.

The people who watch these movies is no better than those who eat up shit like Grown Ups 2, same shit.

You could tell it was immensely toned down from the first film, with less cursing and nothing like the AA-12 scene or Lundgren's "warning shot".

Where did you get that info? Last I heard was in an interview with Stallone where he said Weathers was denied due to wanting too much money for what would have been a quickie flashback.


Anyway, I'm down with Gibson being in this, especially as a villain.

It's too bad Stallone isn't directing Expendables 3. Say what you want about the first one but it was much better shot and edited than the second. I liked the slightly more serious tone the first had too.

The second movie is worse. I literally fell asleep during the last 30 minutes. I still don't know how it ends.

I thought Sly did a great job bringing back Rambo and Rocky, but this Expendables experiment is pretty weak. The first one is sorta fun in a dumb way, not a terrible boring Saturday night rental or Netflix stream. There are way worse movies.

But the second one doesn't even know how to juggle the cast it has, despite some of them only being in it for very short periods of time. Stuff like the Chuck Norris cameo, where it's being sorta self aware of how ridiculous it is being, it just doesn't work.

You can have a big macho explosion movie and have it still be interesting. Expendables 2 was not that movie.

Part 2 basically feels like an arcade version of part 1.

I'd like for part 3 to find the right balance between the two.

While I did love part one for its slightly serious tone, I love how part 2 had characters that were literally invincible.

Part 3 could also use more jokes about the actors themselves too. Surely this is gonna be a trilogy at best, so I'd definitely love for them to go all in on the fan service for what should be the grand finale.

Damn shame Russell didn't wanna get in on this.

Great news. It's too bad he turned down the opportunity to direct though. I would love to see Mel back in the director's seat. He made interesting films, and he made them well.

In that case I hope they bring back Simon West. E2 was infinitely better shot and staged than the original which was horrendous to look at. It was like they used direct to video techniques of having everything dark and up close to hide the production values except it was a big budget movie.
