Memorable recasts in a movie trilogy/tv show

I feel kind of bad now because I never noticed they were different people. Of course, maybe it's because I was bored and didn't care while watching the sequels.

Wow, no wonder people got confused by Revolutions then. It's brought up twice in the movie.

Oracle: Morpheus, Trinity. Thank you for coming. One thing I've learned in all my years is that nothing ever works out just the way you want it to.
Trinity: Who are you?
Oracle: I'm the Oracle. I wish there was an easier way to get through this but there ain't. I'm sorry this had to happen. I'm sorry I couldn't be sitting here like you remember me. But it wasn't meant to be.

Oracle: So, do you recognize me?
Neo: A part of you.
Oracle: Yeah, that's how it works. Some bits you lose, some bits you keep. I don't yet recognize my face in the mirror, but... I still love candy. *offers Neo a piece of red candy*

Also one of the most unnoticed recasts I can think of recently is Beric Dondarion in Game of Thrones. Every single person I know who watches the show went "huh?" when I mentioned this.

Speaking of Game of Thrones, I'd love to see the original pilot with Tamzin Merchant as Dany and Jennifer Ehle as Cat.

Roseanne

God, I will never get over this. She was such a bad actress at the time and it was also during the period where the show was taking a nosedive in quality, with a bunch of outlandish plots and shit.

She may have been cuter, but it felt so wrong.

Probably because he was in the first season like what? 10 minutes? I dunno, but he wasn't a regular screen presence.

Maggie is so much less attractive though, which kind of lessens the believability a bit, since one of the most eligible bachelors in the world is in love with her.

I guess Bruce really just cares about what's on the inside...

Maggie > post-Cruise Katie.

This was certainly for the better as Katie Holmes was hilariously mis-cast in the dark oppressive movie that was Batman Begins. Maggie Glynenanahlahalhalahalshlahalhalall was a much better fit for the Bat.

Whatever way they shot the dark knight, it made her look really old. She's normaly quite attractive. Katie Holmes was of course a poor choice for the first movie, and a lesser actor. It's a shame.

Does this count?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_Wayans
Wayans was originally considered for the role of Robin in the 1992 film Batman Returns, however it was felt that the film featured too many characters, so the character was omitted from that film. He was then formally signed for the role in the 1995 sequel Batman Forever to play opposite Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face, but the mid-production change in directors from Tim Burton to Joel Schumacher would result in both parts being recast and Wayans being paid out (Williams was not yet signed on, but he received a penalty fee as his contract for Batman allowed him the option of reprise), for which he still receives some royalty payments to this day. He was replaced by Chris O'Donnell.

Let's be honest here, he was mentioned like five seconds or so in S1. Was played by an extra or something as well.

I never said they did. Just a very unfortunate situation.

well how I saw it is that she didn't have to be the same person given that she was just a program. she had to keep changing location and appearance to avoid being detected and removed

I know it kind of made sense, but it was just another distraction for an already bloated movie that introduced way too many new characters. Besides, while Mary Alice is a good actress, Gloria Foster was just better (IMO).

The guy that comes to my mind would be Ho Chung-tao (aka Bruce Li).

After Bruce Lee's death, the Hong Kong movie studios were still trying to capitalize from Bruce Lee's success. Essentially, Bruce Lee played the same character in almost all his movie roles. Ho was just lucky enough to be adopted as the best imitator at the time.

Yeah, sure. It's just that in S1 I thought "oh man, what kind of shit Beric is this gonna be". So I immediately noticed the recast.

Is it true they had to recast the Mountain the first time, because the actor wanted more screen time?

This re-cast was for the better I have to say.
Pretty much. I don't know how they expected Richard Harris to last until the final movies. When I first saw the movie as a kid I couldn't help but think "man, he's really old". :/

Gambon is now the age that Harris had in 2. And yeah, it was for the better, awesome Dumbledore.

Are you sure you aren't talking about Reloaded?

Revolutions, which features the new Oracle, introduces like 3 new characters. Charra (most pointless character in the trilogy), Sati and her father (her mother doesn't count because she has only a line or two).

Reloaded introduced a dozen characters in Zion alone.

I count the sequels as one big movie, especially since the second one had a cliffhanger. So I guess it would be more correct to say that the sequels introduced way too many new characters who we don't care about.

IIRC the schedule clashed with another show he was meant to be on (gladiator or something like this?) so he gave up on GoT.

No continuity whatsoever. I mean hell, is the Blofeld from You Only Live Twice really the same bulked up maniac from OHMSS? And is he really the same blofeld as the one who dresses up in full drag in Diamonds are Forever?

I think there was actually a throw away line in Diamonds that explained that Blofeld regularly went through surgery to change his appearance.

Silly thing is that Charles Gray, who played Blofeld in Diamonds, was one of bond's contacts that was killed by...uh...Blofeld's dudes in YOLT.

I agree it's one big movie with way too many characters.
But this is probably the reason I like the second half, Revolutions, better.

For example in Reloaded the Kid, Niobe, Locke are introduced but it's in Revolutions that they do their thing. Kid saves the day in Zion, Niobe pilots the Mjolnir to safety, Locke commands the military.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the kids from the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. They were different in each film and even changed which gender was older. I loved it.

Sliders-From Quinn to Mallory.

Diff'rent Strokes-Maggie Drummond was changed from the move from NBC to ABC.

Batman was changed from Michael Keaton to Val Kilmer to George Clooney.
