Men in Black 3 |OT| Agent J returns after 10 years

Just saw it in 3D (which wasn't too badly done).

Regarding dialogue
I felt most of the jokes in the first half were terribly flat
. Also disappointed that the antagonist
got only a few lines of dialogue, including repeats of the same crappy catchphrase
.

The ending
was kind of nice, explaining why K was looking after J. I hadn't seen the past two movies in years, so for me it came out of nowhere
.

Only remaining question is:
Was the death of J's dad meant to be the thing that hardened K? Because they focused on the 'upcoming event' so much, but I didn't feel it went anywhere
.

Also, walked out before the credits were over (couldn't stand the Pitbull song). Did I miss anything?

What got the best laugh on your viewing?
I liked the scene where Will makes a stand against the assumption
that black people drive stolen vehicles
hehe.
Josh Brolin was also hilarious in his directness just like Tommy Lee Jones.

My favourite part was the dark moment during the time jump
where Will Smith flies past the man committing suicide. Caught me off guard, but very funny in a horrible way
.

I thought it was a great flick. Good laughs, good aliens, and a strong villain. The ending
was a little iffy and I thought it was going to come unraveled when shit went down at the moon launch. What happened to the the Animal's time travelling device? I must have missed why he wasn't using it when he plummeted to his death Also, I loved the the pan-dimensional alien. He was great. I also loved the way the movie kept you guessing as to who was going to die at the end. It seemed like it was going to be J for a little bit.
. Look forward to seeing it again.

Remember to always tip your server, folks.

They had a throwaway line in MIB2 where she apparently wanted to go back to the morgue, so J erased her memory etc.

Was done to explain why she didn't come back, I guess.

I just realized that this could be taken as a joke implying that J got L killed.

"She wanted to go back to the morgue, I just helped her."

They don't specify that she was neuralized if I remember correctly.

lol, the lights didn't come on in the cinema so most people stayed, we weren't going to hand around to listen to Mr. Worldwide!
Weird, they kept the lights off at the premiere I went too as well. Only once the toilet paper scrolling credits appeared, did the lights start to dim up.

Anyhow, the movie perfectly fits my definition of stupid fun. Relatively stupid plot, snappy dialogue, some good effects. The time travel made very little sense and some of the plot devices were a bit throwaway.

Still, a solid summer movie. Just don't get your hopes up.

Just got back, enjoyed it. Felt kinda rushed at the start but once they got back in time I felt the pacing slowed down and I really got into it. Enjoyed the plot, enjoyed the ending.

Overall say I preferred it to the 2nd but obviously still not as good as the first.

Watched the first Men in Black last night and man it still holds up. Still a fairly entertaining movie with some good special effects. Plan on watching the second one tonight and catching the third one Sunday. I'm bracing myself for disappointment from both films.

II is so bad it should make III look a fair bit better by comparison (judging by reviews)

One more critic saying this is better than the first, but most of the new reviews are positive. I'm surprised its holding well at 68% fresh so far.

This spirited three-quel comes close to the exuberance of the first Men in Black and is a distinct improvement over its limp 2002 follow-up. By filling in the blanks of the back stories of both Agents J (Smith) and K (Jones), it opens up a new era — the late '60s — which provides plenty of fodder for alien jokes and comedy. It also adds an unexpectedly poignant element to the saga.

MIB3 boasts the most effective use of 3D in recent memory which, together with its surprisingly smart, funny and, dare I say, tender screenplay, makes it the first great blockbuster of the summer movie season.

While it may not ever reach the sublime, absurd heights of the original, Men in Black 3 is a lot of fun.

Not just the funniest film in the series, Men In Black 3 has the best story of them all

I haven't seen the movie yet. I plan to this weekend or next week. I just want to know though does the movie address the plot hole/paradox of J still being in MiB after whatever happens to K in the past? If someone goes back in time and kills K, then J shouldn't be in MiB. K was the one who recruited him to begin with and sold Zed on J.

I saw this today and I have to say that I instantly recognised Jemaine Clement (from Flight of the Conchords) as Boris the Animal. As for the movie: I quite enjoyed it and thought it was better than the 2nd one but it wasn't absolutely fantastic.

I personally thought they were going to
bring young K into the present to continue the franchise

just saw it and it was an OK film... wasn't expecting much more... some funny lines and an unexpected ending... i don't regret seeing it but wasn't a must-see-film either...

The movie prior to the time jump was definitely like a time warp; they reused so many gags from the older Men in Black movies that I was rolling my eyes. After the time jump, though, the movie seemed to catch its footing and began to make some genuinely funny jokes. Definitely a vast improvement over Men in Black II. I'd probably rank it on par with Men in Black I, but I never thought that was some classic.

people thinking the first MiB was some particularly special movie in the first place make me scratch my head :P

Just got back, fun film. Ending was great.

Yeah I would say MIB 3 is the best out of the trilogy. Also liked Toy Story 3 the best out of its trilogy too. It's that emotional touch that the previous films lacked I guess.

I definitely didn't feel like that was forced either or manipulated. It felt right, it explained a lot. I mean I predicted it pretty quickly, but it still worked for me.

I really dug the whole Boris the Animal character, some really gross effects on him. Brolin's impression sold the film by itself, really. It's fucking uncanny. But they really had many great little bits,
the Andy Warhol parts made me laugh ('fuck I'm so tired of drawing soup cans with goddamn bananas on them')
, and I really liked the sweetness of the
Quantum Dimensional Guy
.

As always, it's just a light affair, and Will Smith's goddamn annoying acting skills never fails to get on my last nerve. Maybe it's just me but I'm so tired of his stuttery "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" reaction performance to every other thing.

But all in all, not bad. I wasn't sad I paid money for my ticket.

Lots of things that I didn't like about this movie but they're all minor complaints. Still a pretty good movie and I'm glad I went.

Just came back from watching it. Enjoyed it.

Loved the throwbacks to first movie particularly the font used and
when J shoots the gun on top of the car. The difference being it was the car that threw him to the ground not the gun.

Saw this earlier today. I'll echo most of this thread - better than 2, as good if not better than 1. Josh Brolin is the reason to see this movie, but all in all it was a harmless, fun summer blockbuster and that's all that I wanted.

Just caught it with my folks. I really dug it, not sure if it was better than the first...but really funny and sweet at the same time.

Griffin was the best, and Josh Brolin was pretty boss.

Saw it, Loved it. At first i was like, this going to be a cringefest but once they traveled back to the past.......all cylinders. A for fun.

boy this film is going to be some bomb, early forecasts don't look positive, the GAF topic is dead and my movie theatre was dead. Will Smith pull at the box office finally really dead?

How was the 3D greatly implemented? The only time it was worth anything was the time jump sequence which lasted all of ten seconds. Best part of the movie.

Was it filmed in 3D?

Apparently not:

Just letting you know this is false. MiB3 is post-converted 3D, not native 3D. Might explain why it sucked.

I had done a lot of testing of every 3D rig and also shot 2D and converted it to 3D. Based on my tests, I felt that the movie would look much better if it was shot in 2D and converted. So, nothing was shot in native 3D, which allowed me to have much more control over depth. It allowed me to use film instead of digital media, and the time jump was so much fun to work on because I got to control it all in post production.

I'll see the film next week if at all, but Moonrise Kingdom takes priority.
