Sorry if I'm late on this... the thread is moving super fast. I love Metal Gear, but I'm not 100% clued up on everything from the story. If I'm not mistaken though, didn't Big Boss and
Major Zero fall out after the Cold War? Zero and the others became The Patriots. Could the villain we're seeing in this game actually be Zero? If so... what happened to his face? I got the impression Zero would be sat away from the battle pulling the strings (as he was in MGS3.) It seems off though, especially since the game is titled Ground Zeroes as well.

Major Z's face is unburnt at the end of MGS4

BS

Fabric physics and lighting looks too good.

No way Xbox or ps3 could run that at a decent frame rate.

Looks better then sleeping dogs maxed out on ultra on pc and we all know how crappy the console ports look.

I'd say this is up there with watch dogs, nice glimps of the next gen consoles.

And I'm willing to believe the devs who say otherwise.

I'm not the one saying it. Those two options are the only options given what the developers have said. And I lean toward the latter. That the demo shown off was set to PS3/360 specifications.

I agree that it is really impressive. But until proven otherwise I'm willing to believe the developers who say the demo is representative of the PS3/360 versions.

If anyone is an IGN prime member, could you please download the HD version of that extended trailer then upload it somewhere? I would like to download it and put it on my Vita.

I think the PS3 can pull off the lighting. The graphics are comparable to GOW III really.

Yeah, maybe the geometry and some of the facial stuff/textures/clothing might not make it though. I do agree there.

It's like people have never played Uncharted 2/3, God/Gears of War 3 or Killzone 2/3 on consoles or something. Yes it looks fantastic, but it's not that much out of the ordinary.

The direct feed shows more than enough flaws for it to be possible on current console hardware with minimal limitations.

Big Boss
was one of the founding members of the Patriots. He had a falling-out with Zero sometime during the 70s or 80s due to disagreements about the purpose and ultimate goal of the Patriots.

From the PS blog: on PC, "comparable" to PS3:

At PAX 2012, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima showed off 15 minutes of the first gameplay footage from his upcoming PS3 game. Though running on a PC, Kojima stated that the footage was comparable to what would be seen on the PS3 version of the game.

Major Z's face is unburnt at the end of MGS4

Keep in mind though that (Metal Gear 2 spoilers)
Big Boss' face was burnt too when his face was lit on fire with a makeshift flamethrower
and yet he was (MGS4 ending)
unburnt at the end of MGS4
. It being Zero seems like a possibility.

i love when people pretend the graphics are nothing special... if Kojima said PS4, everyone would be going crazy about $599 Day 1.

There is nothing with this level of effects and this good IQ this gen... nothing. It is so clean and impressive.

I'm not saying it won't look impressive, but it is an open-world game running on 6 year old hardware with memory constraints. There is going to be a trade-off somewhere. Of course they chose to use an environment where the engine probably looks at its best. It is at night with good rain effects and dynamic lighting. I imagine that hides its shortcomings quite well.

I also think the cutscenes probably have a greater level of detail than the actual gameplay will have. It is using the same engine, but I think it probably scales once in gameplay.

We will see just how good the engine is once more gameplay is shown, and in a completely different environment without the lighting and rain effects.

Very impressive looking game. Hope the gameplay is as impressive. It's nice to see that next year is going to send out this current systems on a hell of a high note.

Don't know if this has been posted, but for those of us hoping for a PC version: http://www.gamespot.com/news/kojima-hiring-for-next-metal-gear-solid-6350832

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima today revealed the search is on to find new development talent for the next title in the popular franchise.

Kojima used Twitter to unveil a GDC job portal site with the title: "Big Boss Wants You; The 'Next' MGS."

The site advertises for programming, art, game design, sound, and production roles, highlighting the next Metal Gear Solid is "targeted for high-end consoles and PC" and will use the FOX Engine.

There are reasons to believe this is coming to PC.

This game also looks to continue the realistic character model dominance of the industry set by the last 2 mainline MGS games. All the soldiers, and especially Snake look insane.

Looks very, very good. I'm very hyped for this.

Special Ennio Morricone music choice made me think 'Kojima is back'. It actually felt special watching that trailer, I haven't felt that in a while in gaming (and I'm not talking graphics. We have new Wow moments pretty regularly these days). Love the directing of that trailer. So many small touches.

Technically I would say Naughty Dog level (hard to say without actually having it run on the designated hardware). In game animation transitions not near TLOU but got to love the lighting effects, just lovely. Good level scale but hard to judge draw distance. Rain/night scenarios are the easiest to have be graphically impressive (see Gears 1, MGS2, RE5 etc) so it will be interesting to see daytime scenarios. The faces look more realistic than previous MGS games. Having it still run on a PC when it's only confirmed for a X360/PS3 is a bit iffy. Let's see how it runs when on actual current-gen console hardware (not that it matters much to me as I will pick up the unannounced PS4/X720 version).

Kojima Productions are now on a technical level with the best western guys. Seems like that department has been on a slight hiatus since 2004.

also: Solid Snake hell yeah!

How can a game be next gen if it's on current gen consoles?

Will Starwars 1313, Watchdogs and MGS5 come out on PS3 and 4?

Looks great. Also glad to have definite confirmation on it being a direct follow-up to Peace Walker. This is the next Metal Gear I wanted, so I'm happy. I love me some Big Boss, and his reveal here was pretty rad.

Will be interesting to see what Kojima means about this being a "prologue" to MGS5. With his hints about wanting to return to Solid Snake, I have a feeling the next numbered game will be the MG1/MG2 "remake," but with a focus on all the stuff we've learned about Big Boss/Cipher/Zero/The Patriots throughout the series. My bets are on Ground Zeroes concluding at Outer Heaven proper.

I am okay with them souping this up and releasing it exclusively on next-gen. Having a MGS game day one with PS4? Now THAT would make me buy a PS4 day one...

you can tell kojima has been influenced even further by modern cinema...he's made Metal gear look fresh.

Yeah, it's much better to do the long uninterrupted single following cam with this than what they were focusing on before with the overdone cinematics. Still, after MGS4, I'm gonna hold my excitement level to just wanting to see more nice visuals. I like how mysterious it seems, compared to the last few MGS releases' first videos, which drown you in so much minutiae and dribbling speak that it feels like someone filming every thing from a dense page turner instead of condensing and using more show and less fucking endless tell.

I'm not saying it won't look impressive, but it is an open-world game

It is but I doubt it's on the level of Just Cause or anything. I suspect there will be 5 or more different stages with multiple missions on each. In some ways similar to Peace Walker but less linear and without the segmented 'rooms'.

Anything is "comparable". That doesn't necessarily mean it's the same. Unfortunately.
"How does the PS3 version hold up to the PC build we're going to show?"
"What? Badly man, badly"
"You compared them?"
"Yeah, of course"
"So they're comparable, that's all I needed to know, thanks"

That looked great. Animation was seamless, overall lighting excellent, and man - have devs really nailed the wet texture effects this gen or what? :D

But I think the little details are what really made the difference here. The rim of the hat actually being moved by the raindrops was the first one I really noticed.

This is running on a PC made to console specs? Hard to believe, makes this even more impressive/spectacular.
