Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

I think this will be a 10 hour game.

I know kojima games are usually longer, but this game oozes tech demonstration and I think it's here to hold us over until MGS5 does come out.

I hope it has multiplayer.

A 10 hour open world game? That should be interesting.

They can pre-render all the cinematics, there's enough space for a lot of FMV, maybe not on a DVD. Those were the bits that looked a bit much for current consoles.

the gif is extremely appropriate for that statement

the boss is such a great character, i think my favourite in the series, it would be amazing to play as her or see more of her story; though that would be a tougher sell, unless kojima wanted to split the franchise again and have her in her own game like raiden and have Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Rising and Metal Gear Bossness
I just discovered recently She has a bunch of haters.
Even though I like Solid better I think she is easily the best character in the series.

I just hope the Kojima quirkiness and attention to detail doesn't take a back seat with multiplat development. Though with this demo Im not too much worried about the latter.

Considering how long this engine has been in development I imagine it'll be pretty robust in regards to multiplatform workflow.

Hope that PC version turns out to be legit.

I don't see why it wouldn't. E3 2011 Fox engine was announced for consoles and PC, Kojima expressed interested in developing on the platform. Feb 2012 Kojima started hiring for a "high end console and PC" MGS title. And of course now Ground Zeroes is demoed on a PC. Just need confirmation.

The way her character was treated in Peace Walker is abysmal.

Peace Walker is a great game, and the story isn't completely terrible, but the way The Boss was handled in Peace Walker is terrible.

My guess would be the quality of the lighting effects, it looks similar to the DX11 effects we see in PC games.
Hmm, not much of a lighting person I guess, since it didn't blow me away...not something I look for...I was actually looking for some gameplay evolutions or...eh...

Also can't tell diff between 30/60 FPS unless shown side to side...eh...

Considering the base-line is still current gen consoles, you shouldn't be expecting too much. Though the open-world gameplay may be what you're looking for.

She truly is a great character. I think it's ironic that she came out of the MGS series though, given the track record of how women are...dangled in front of Snake in the whole series.

I still Like Big Boss more, but I have so much respect for her character. Plus, I'm sorely missing a kickass stoic female character in my vidya games after what Other M did to Samus.

Edit: and dat voice in PW. When you're fighting the...
thing with the Boss' persona and she shouts "Face me!" 0_o ...meeeeep

The open world setting allows for plenty of evolutions to the gameplay, even the animation adds to the improvment imo.

the gameplay part looks totally doable on ps3!
love mgs3 on ps2, mg-gz will be like that, late gen games ftw!
only wished they make it for pc! should i buy ps3 again for one game? ...

but i will take some salt because kojima final gameplay always end up less exciting then their demos.

Yesterday I finally beat the original Metal Gear for MSX. Good game. Then I fired up Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and holy shit people, this is as if the game had been made for XBLA three or four years ago. It's AMAZING. The level of gameplay depth that is crammed in this 1990 game is astounding. It's also crazy how similar in gameplay and story cues the game is to its successor, Metal Gear Solid.

By the way, I think it's a fucking travesty that the game's opening song is nowhere to be found in ANY of the subsequent Metal Gear games. A fucking travesty.

I hope there really is a PC version, but I will be fairly shocked if this game looks like that on PS3 or 360.

Which platform did you play them on? I want to play myself; are they part of the HD Collection for Vita?

I probably need to play peace walker after watching this footage.

What is the best way to play PW?

original psp version?
psp version on Vita?
HD collection on PS3?

I don't know about Vita, but they are on the HD collection for consoles. I'm playing it on PS3. You access both by selecting MGS3; they are on the main menu.

A 14 minute "gameplay" demo which is nearly 2/3rds cutscene?

I guess we've got another Metal Gear Solid game on our hands.
Yes way more gameplay than in most game reveals.

some people just try too hard to downplay this awesomeness.

Everything about The Boss is just so damn forced, the same applies to the series in general. Not to mention that her gender was a bit too emphasized. "The Mother of Special Forces" She fucking gave birth during the Invasion of Normandy! Imagine a fully pregnant woman walking around a battlefield.

They are on the Vita. Just beat MG1 this morning lol. You access them from MGS3's main menu.

Definitely on PS3. Dat online, dual analog, and 60 FPS.
(Even though I played like 140 hours on the PSP version lol)

The guy who said "this product has not yet been rated" sounded very serious about it. Also, game looks great.

Are we still speculating on why those orange squares appear at certain points of the demo? They're not part of the HUD, so I'm inclined to think they're to indicate "checkpoints" in the game?

good call. I'm gonna shout for it being a glitch in the VR system

Why is this game's story a continuation of Peace Walker's story when most players won't have played it and most of those who played it won't have unlocked the actual final ending of the game? Most people won't have any idea what's going on with Chico and Paz etc.

They could bundle it with it

Here's my gripe (and I consider myself a HUGE MGS fan):
The MGS games that are set pre-MGS1 on PS1 (universe timeline) are disappointing for me. Gameplay, graphics, ticks, etc. all evolve nicely with each new game, but the reason I got disappointed with say MGS3 is due to two lacking aspects of many great bullet points for the franchise;

MGS3 has disappointing bosses (not necessarily boss fights and not necessarily all of them).
The Metal Gear in MGS3 was a let down and forgettable.

In MGS3, you meet members of Team Cobra (iirc) and they all just jump in and start fighting. One of the cool things MGS games always due up to the release of that game is build up their boss characters. Before you encounter any of them (aside from probably the very first one) you know a lot about them. You know why they are fighting, their abilities, etc. The game builds them up beautifully so once you get to fight one of them, you are excited. Also, it is cool to see the interaction and dialogue and ideological debate Snake has with his enemy boss fights before and after the fight is over. It builds up character depth and connection with the player. In MGS3, aside from maybe a couple, you hardly knew anything before a fight and once an enemy is down, everybody forgets he existed.

And for god's sake, the Metal Gear robots at the end are the big reveal that every game expects at the very end of the game. Both Rex, Ray and the original MGS game all had kickass Metal Gears at the end. I think one of the PSP games had a cool one too at the end (Ac!d 2?), but I can't remember much.

Finally, MGS has always been about tech (bosses have advanced tech, use of advanced tools by both Snake and the enemies, and there is a Metal Gear at the end for crying out loud!) but in the Big Boss games, you can't help but feel everything is low tech and unimpressive...

That is why, to me, MGS1,2 and 4 are the best IN THAT REGARD!
I will say this; Kojima ended 4 beautifully and tied all the loose ands wonderfully, so am satisfied.

On the plus side, Ground Zeroes did show that cool retro, yet advanced map device. I hope they do more of that and I CERTAINLY hope we'll have memorable characters that people will be talking about and discussing for years.

P.S. having said all that, what does a fan have to do to get ANY reference or appearence of Grey Fox? Past, present, I dom't care, I just want to see, play, or fight him! He was the best part and the ONLY reason I kept playing that first non-Ac!d MGS PSP game.

I think I completed that game, but I have NO idea who these characters are. The BB games seem very forgettable in terms of characters or boss fights...
