Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

off topic question: metal gear hd collection is 25 bucks on the german xbl marketplace (games on demand). is that an ok price and is the 360 version ok or fucked up in some way?
Get the HD version for PS3, If you're used to playing MGS on the Playstation. Otherwise, you wouldn't feel comfortable with the 360 controller.

I'm assuming that the AI is a way off being done, seeing as the "cut" trailer ends just as Snake is spotted and the full one doesn't show any base infiltration. Didn't journalists see a 25 min demo though, so maybe they showed more then?

The trailer seems to imply more traditional stealth, rather than the "sneaking on a battlefield" of MGS4 which is good as far as I'm concerned. I wonder if things like how alerts work etc have changed compared to previous titles?

Also, as this seems to follow on from PW, should I play Portable Ops before Peace Walker? I've seen some people saying not to bother, but is that just like how some people hate on MGS2 and 4, or does PO actually not contain any relevant story? Also, is PO improved on Vita at all with the second analogue stick, or does it not make any difference?

I most definately do. In all fairness though Kojima had little to do with that project. There's a perfect developer interview on youtube on the failure of Rising, where it all went wrong before Kojima finally took control and contacted Platinum. When Rising 1.0 first was shown it was all vague as hell - there was a concept but no actual game. They had an idea of slicing things up but flat out stated they had nothing else. The project was doomed from the start.

In this case however Kojima is on top of things. There is a story, gameplay elements, a fully-developed engine. I have much faith that this is representative of the final version.
I agree. With Kojima on top of things, this demo should be very representative of what we can expect from the actual game.

dont care about the controller, i can handle both. i want the version that runs best, also the price seems pretty good.

He didn't look like Bieber...

So... the next step in gaming graphics has finally and officially been taken. Too bad that character animation is still lagging behind.
The gameplay animation in MGS is stylised. Always has been.

P.S Are we allowed to say puts Splinter Cell to shame cuz the actual gameplay parts reminded me so much of Chaos Theory then i see what Splinter Cell has become and i just sigh.

Man never thought people would love Chaos Theory that much. I still think I can finish it pretty easily but it's been so long. ;)

To the guys that are in denial...

This is a late PS2 game.

Konami still has talent...it's just wasted 99% of the time.

Don't bother with PO, it's not very fun. Read up about it on wiki but the story is pretty crappy, there is a one line reference to it in PW and that's it. I heartily recommend PW (as a handheld game, haven't played it on 360)

Japanese presentation was 20mins long, but that was because person who played it was not good. There was few laughs in the crowd because of his lack of skill.

I expect that they will show the entirety of this mission on TGS in 3 weeks.

I think he meant "same spec as current gen PC systems".

How can current-gen consoles have the same specs as a PC? That still doesn't makes sense.

I think what he meant is: "Don't worry, the console versions will have the same/similar graphics".

Watched it for the first now, and just wow! WOWOWOW.

I do have a suspicion though. How good does it actually look beyond the clouds and rain? It seems like a heavy usage of clouds and rain to cover up ugly backgrounds.

What game is that?
Silent Hill 3.

Does it really matter? As long as we never get to actually see behind the clouds and rain.

So they can show it can be done on a PS3, and that it can be multiplatform at the same time.

Why not just lie about it like devs do all the time?

"Oh this? Yeah this is the latest build of Crysis 2 running on 360... look look it even has the 360 button prompts *cue windows 7 crash to desktop and awkward silence*"

I'm pretty sure this was posted before, but I said holy damn.

I've watched this video 1 time in total so far.. this is gonna chance now. Hot damn!

Also, because of the pressure sensitives buttons.
? That's what I said.

People are still talking about the PC thing it seems. Comparable is a very vague term, he probably just doesn't care to go into great details. It probably just means it's all DX9, and within the texture/poly budget of the PS3.

I want the game to be this pretty when I play it on my PS3 ffs... I don't want to play a MGS-game on PC ._.

Oh well, guess I'm forced to... I wonder what the required specs will be like...

If that's next gen then im not impressed at all. I expect more of a jump as it clearly looks like MGS4 with shitloads of effects going on and it's what 3 years since MGS?

MGS 4 is sub-HD, has a wonky framerate, is divided into sections with loading times and has PS2-like animation. How does it look like MGS 4? It looks like a sequel to Chaos Theory on current gen to me, at least on the tech side of things. Not a sequel to MGS 4.

Could the scared guy be Solid Snake? And what technology has the scared man to remove the emblem fro. The chopper? Did anyone notice that?

If they are promoting multiplatform optimisations like this, PC version will probably have similar requirements like Crysis 2 [in short, it will be optimized by Jesus and will work gloriously on even older machines].

Someone explain this to me. In the trailer, There seems to be two snakes. One with a grey hair, the other one has a dark colored hair. Am I doing it right? :/

I thought you mean Analog stick buttons. Sorry. :)

Scarface couldn't be Solid Snake, no. Solid Snake was cloned in 1972, Peace Walker in 1974 and this is seemingly within five years of Peace Walker. It almost certainly is Galvez (or Zadornov depending on which name you want to use for him). As for the technology, who knows? An early type of Octocamo on the helicopter that causes it to change under a certain light perhaps?

Aim higher. Scarred big boss is in the choppa!

Even better than that, Scarred Big Boss is actually Big Boss from the future!

Younger Old Big Boss is then infiltrating Scarred Big Boss' base to rescue Chico and Paz in a time-travelling stealth game! That's what all the orange added lighting was about!

in case it wasn't clear enough, I'm joking regarding the second part.

I'm not sure about the whole helicopter thing and using jeeps, it's supposed to be a one man sneaking mission, call in big helicopters will surely let everyone notice you are there

Aim higher. Scarred big boss is in the choppa!
Even higher. The kid is actually a time-paradoxed Solid Snake, looking at his future self (well, that's what they want you to believe, it's actually Solidus Snake from the future). The guy who gets introduced in the end is Raiden.

I don't get the Chaos Theory talk. I mean, once you get into the game, it's apples and oranges.

If a Splinter Cell fan who is into the series wanted to pickup this (or any other) MGS game out of curiosity, I would warn him that these games are filled with quirky design touches and a style that's extremely unique.

It's heaven to me, but it's not for everyone. (The series as a whole I mean).

it would be pretty funny if by prologue he meant like Gran Turismo, an early game you buy which is a taster of MGS5 with fox engine

actually, that would be kinda awesome?

Hi guys. been out of town the whole day. what's up?
