Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

ACB-Raiden-Costume-Screens.jpg

Hello there.

We are getting there lol.

Why do people keep saying that? lol

There is NOTHING at all in the trailer that indicates two time periods.

They have Chico in a cage. Big Boss is told to go save Chico. Big Boss goes to save him.

His hair looks whiter under strong lighting, it must be Solidus!

Remember when people were thinking Solid Snake traveled back in time after looking at the first Snake Eater trailer? lol

Otacon: To find the Patriots... We must travel back in time.

Snake: [grumble]

Metal Gear Solid 3: Time Eater

I've been out of this discussion since the start, where are we getting this "2 timelines" thing from? Is it because of the character model being different?

Two different looks for Snake.

Not to mention it isn't specified on which snake it is. Plus the reversed poster thing, which could be a hint from Kojima...

...which leads to this question: Could it be that Kojima is preparing to hit us with an MGS ARG?

Edit: Anyway, I'm going with the Big Boss mentoring Solid Snake and/or Grey Fox theory.

if you mean mgs4 story > mgs2.........i respectfully disagree

Uh, no. He means MGS 4 shits all over the storyline of MGS 2 and its characters. And I don't mean "shits all over" in a "it's better" sense. It literally takes a dump on what MGS 2's story was about.

Well, it wasn't at the last minute. Removing stuff like the WTC and some of the cutscenes of Arsenal Gear crashing into NY were last minute.

btw does anyone know if the scenes that were cut from that segment exists somewhere on the internets or on youtube?? is on that Document of MGS dvd? it seems so disjointed when the game transitioned from the arsenal crossing the george washington bridge and then the next scene it shows a destroyed federal hall....

Well a few things. Firstly, Snake looks notably older when compared to Chico.

Chico is clearly in a used area of the base, Snake is told he is in an unused area.

The antagonists leave, planning to find Paz, Snake is told Paz is there with Chico.

Promotional materials include Snake at two distinctly different ages.

I remember it then.

People keep on expecting Kojima to pull the rug out from under them again with a character switch, when he hasn't for four games straight (3, PO, 4, PW).

People at TUS discussed trying to get a PS2 DevKit for a long time, because some of the stuff is still in the Sons of Liberty disc. But nobody was able to get anything. I'm sure more people remember this if they posted there.

It's hard for me to say that I can see two different Snakes during the video, but I can see that they're different in the artwork.

I agree, it's a really sloppy transition.

To my knowledge, it hasn't been accessed on the disc or on the Document of MGS2. Just the description.

Oh yeah sorry. I meant in the artwork. It's naked snake in the trailer.

Ground Zeroes takes place over a significant period. At the start it's just "regular" Big Boss with the brown hair similar to the artwork, later parts of the game feature an older Big Boss, similar to the character model in the trailer.

Why do they both feature the same outfit and same setting? Because Kojima doesn't want to show off anything else [yet]. Why is Chico so young and Big Boss so old? Different character model for Big Boss. Why? It's Hideo Kojima, that's why.

Boom, problem solved. Time travel, reverse cloning, nanomachine halucinagen, Psycho Mantis, come on.

Please don't tell me you think in this pics is the same guy.

I keep repeating myself but imo there is a "FOX" Snake (old) and a "XOF" Snake (young). I think it's the same guy (Big Boss).

Remember Kojima posted this on his twitter page

Also "Two Phantoms were born".

Come on man.

The difference of appearance in the posters is most likely because one is a CG render, and the other is in game.

We saw multiple times through the demo how the lighting caused his hair/beard to appear grey.

The different character artwork suggests the possibility that it could take place over a significant period of time (though it could just be different lighting sources).

But some of the posters suggesting that the model changes over the course of the gameplay/trailer itself was just lol...

Brown Boss & Weathered Boss

Don't forget Naked Snake went through a similar transformation in MGS3... His eye...

Yeah this is without a doubt Big Boss. Just older and younger. That's just my speculation.

Honestly, after further inspection, the "older" looking Snake's hair color looks like it's white mostly because of the GIANT SPOTLIGHTS reflecting off his hair. If you look at the part that's covered in shadow, it's fairly brown, like the promotional material.

Snake has looked different in artwork before this. You can see they tried to give some gray on the sides of the artwork but they went with more in the rendered version.

Well, since he was young when he was malnourished, it has a lifetime effect on him.

An example is Audrey Hepburn. The reason why she looks like a pixie goddess is because she was malnourished when she was young.

Other examples (that while not really due to malnutrition) are olympic gymnasts who starts of WAY young, and have their body growth stunted.

Another explanation is that game logic =/= real logic.

True, but Chico is in a particular state of transition as far as aging goes, and given that height increase isn't the only thing that denotes aging we should at least see him age in other ways. Yet, he still looks clean and baby faced. Even Olympic gymnasts start to look older despite being generally short and "young looking" for their age... They look comparatively older than they were years ago.

I should know, people tell me a look stupidly young for my age, but if you saw a picture of me from years ago at the age that people think I currently am, you could still tell I've gotten older by comparison.

And, while game logic =/= real logic, I think Kojima is far too tedious to forget about or disregard consistently aging the characters of a game in a such a noticeable way.

Let's say two different time frames. XOF and FOX

I believe the first part of the trailer was XOF and after the big flash when the patch fall down from the heli and Snake appears its FOX. From now on we see the older Snake, the whole time.

The problem is we don't see Snake before so he could really be younger.

Also after Galvez removes the XOF logo from the helicopter, Chico's walkman stops playing. Does that mean, the timeline has changed, and the walkman was gone? I'm not sure...

Another thing that bugs me are those orange flashes.

I'm 27. I look 19. It happens.

Plus dude, we don't know much. All this is just speculating.

How do you explain the different logos on their shoulders then?

I think he means the 2 pics from GZ.

oh.

yeah, both snakes in those pics have the patch. It's big boss. how the fuck are people coming up with solid snake lol.

Game will take place more than likely shortly after PW up until shortly before MG1. KEEP IN MIND THOUGH that Big Boss in that trailer is OLD AND OBVIOUSLY....OBVIOUSLY isn't taking place shortly after PW at that moment in time. If that boy is chico(which I still say it isn't), then that trailer is taking place at different time periods.

I saw some people asking two pages ago about Galvez's Japanese VO. And no, it's not the same as Burnface, they sound nothing alike.
Japanese Galvez was Otsuka Hochu (unrelated to Otsuka Akio, JP Snake), an actor people familiar with anime might know for his roles in Naruto (Jiraiya), Zeta Gundam (Yazan)...

Here's a snippet of his performance in Peace Walker : http://youtu.be/B6VtsULwxU0?t=2m44s

This alone makes it really hard for me to believe Burnface is Galvez.

All the signs in the trailer say it's Chico, the only way it wouldn't be him is if it's supposed to be a total headfake by Kojima so that we are surprised by who it really is.

Damn man maybe you're trying to go too deep on this one.

I give up! People here are making the most ridiculous arguments based on what is clearly a technical issue: The hair becomes whiter when lit harshly.

There are no "two different snakes" in the trailer. Period. It's the same as on the poster. It is Big Boss, going to look for Chico, who is in some cage, after Galvez and co. left by chopper.

btw. why this scene? why was that so important?

Just to show the XOF/FOX thing.

Probably a new villain then.
