Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay demo

I hope he didn't just show off the same trailer and demo again, I need MOAR. I really don't know how I feel about this "Story will evolve as you push through the game’s hub/mission structure" business, but mostly because I have no idea what any of that means and likely won't until Kojima shows off some footage.

It means you will have main missions amongst a whole list of missions to go on. The main missions will progress the story. That is ow Peace Walker did it

Im hoping for something along the lines of DXHR where you have your main quests, side quests, and then hidden story bits found through hacking, etc. Maybe theyll keep the hidden tapes from Peace Walker and do a Bioshock or Dead Space-esque "listen while you play" thing.

Hopefully it isn't some menu list and the main story missions are connected by cutscenes. Or, at least, let us choose the missions on the fly, during the helicopter ride.

I imagine if you can walk around the base it will be different. It may be that you get establish a list of missions and side missions for each open world

The way they shows the map working makes me think we will see less menus in any case

That's pretty much exactly what I don't want. I really didn't like Peace Walker's setup, the way it squeezed in cutscenes at the end of discrete missions and warped you back to Mother Base even when you were about to fight a boss or were stuck in jail. I thought it was fine for a handheld game, but I really don't want to see anything like that in a proper console MGS. The fact that Mother Base does seem to be returning has me dreading Fultoning everyone I see and grinding missions to wait for all my progress bars to fill up so I can finally use the new weapons I've found.

I think so too, but you never know. A lot of the cumbersome mechanics of PW is because it was on a PSP, but still, KP doesn't have much experience on "open world" stuff.

I imagine army building will be a big part of this again

I'd love for Kojima to really improve the RPG elements. Give recruits more personality, give them voice acting and make it so you can talk to them around the base

I can see it being quite like Peace Walker. Weaponry R&D will come in again, probably vehicle R&D as well

I would like them to rethink that main mission structure though, teleporting back to base should only happen as a result of traveling back there when you can call a copter

Quick helicopter drops and pickups would be great for side missions, whatever form they end up taking, but I'd really want the main missions to be far more substantial. Something on par with the length of an act in MGS4 would be good. Peace Walker's design robbed that game of the feeling that you were a lone operator, on your own deep behind enemy lines, and that's something I always loved about the main series.

That sounds great, Peace Walker was just an experiment for Ground Zeroes it looks like.

Hope the 24 hour cycle means that the enemies move in real time instead of an exact pattern each time, would make re-plays much more enjoyable instead of just memorizing. Some randomness would be nice too.

Glad to hear them rewarding stealth, that's how it should be.

Kojima also stated he would like to pass the baton, and have the series continue for another 25 years.

MGS won't be the same without Kojima at the helm. I really don't think he can fully pass the baton. I want him to be happy, but really I just don't know what the series would be if he left.

Pretty good. Turns out Shinta Nojiri can make MG games as well as Kojima. Kojima can remain as an advisor. But he should move on if he wishes to.

I think most people who played it do. It's unfortunate that he went on to develop MG card-based games for the PSP. Nojiri is really good.

I also believe he was the "director" for MGS4 act 3 as well tho = o

not to mention NEVERDEAD

I think he just came in late to try to fix that mess that they made. Something along the lines of the team having a hard time figuring out what to do, and Nojiri coming in and taking over to make something out of it. They would have scrapped the thing entirely, IIRC.

I'm really digging all the things I'm hearing about this game. I wonder if they will get it done for next fall/holiday? Seems pretty ambitious with everything they are doing new engine and all. Can't wait.

Someone needs to make a Lets Play 25yrs of Metal Gear thread. Just started MGS the other night on my Vita loving it so far I never played MGS on the PS.

I never played NeverDead, so I don't know if it's any good, but it wasn't developed by KP. So if it's bad, you can excuse the man.

Having said that, we had Shinta Nojiri embedded here for much more than a year, controlling a lot of the elements of content. He comes from a different culture. He's Japanese. We had a full-time translator with us. He was very much working from the Eastern methodology, the Japanese style of gameplay, and it created some really interesting creative tensions

Neverdead's biggest problem is its flawed concept really

Didn't know that. Learn somethin new every day I guess

If I had the chance to replay Ghost Babel, I think it'd be pretty high on my list of favorite MGS games. Not sure though, as it has been a while.
