Metal Gear Solid is really such an amazing game

I played all 3 games in preparation for MGS4.

I had to skip the final fight in MGS1 because I just couldn't do it. Watched the ending on youtube. Not sure which game had this but there was a torture scene with some hardcore fucking button mashing. Easily one of the worst things I have experienced in a game. Apart from that, I agree OP.

I absolutely agree but you're doing it completely wrong playing the original version in 2014, Twin Snakes improved everything tenfold.

Except breaking the shooting system with FPV shooting, especially in boss battles like the one with Ocelot.

one of the reasons i am a gamer today, i remember the first time i experienced it at a friends house and i was in complete awe

Aaah...the feels. I remember feeling this way for the 1st Metal Gear on NES. And again with the superior MSX years later on MGS 3 bonus disc. Metal Gear Solid was like reliving my childhood as an adult, what an outstanding game.

After I saw my cousin play it I decided to get a Playstation system right away. The music and Psycho Mantis fight won me over.

I'm still on disc one (and sorry for the necrobump, but this is a very worthwhile thread) but this game really gives me super strong Demon's Souls feels.

Or to put it another way...for those who've played the earlier FROM games...Miyazaki telegraphs in DS an understanding that he has absorbed what's essential about MGS, if not making outright repeated references from stairwells to soundscapes.

Also, as someone who has played a ton of PS1 games in a kind of random order so that I've played a bunch of shitty games first..in so many ways, it is clear that MGS took the hardware to another level, and then some. (the voice acting and the music...so good...go back and read this thread to be awed.)

In art history we learned that the Cathedral of Chartres was through composed...ie. they sculpted the backs of the statues even if no one would really see that art...MGS has that feel to it.

Just one example, it matters HOW you deploy the ketchup.

(And don't use the wrong cardboard box!!) Hahahaha!

You got me 17 years later Hideo Kojima!!

I definitely agree. The only complaint i usually hear is that the controls/graphics don't age well, and I disagree with those complaints. The graphics manage to hold up really good, i think, probably in part to all those little details you mentioned, and I think the controls take a little while to get used to, (i played 2 and 3 first) but they work great once you get the hang of them.
edit: didnt realize it was a necrobump, so i was responding to the OP.
