MGS > MGS2 = The new corner lean, holdup, jump over railings dropping onto enemies

MGS2 > MGS3 (My fav) = CQC + Camo/Healing Menus (hated this)

MGS3 > MGS4 = menus galore

Thats what im getting at. But its moot if the purpose of the vid is to show gadgets.

Have you not played the demo then?

PW is a more back to basics MGS, sort of an inbetween of MGS1 and MGS4. Theres no more wall hugging movement, you pick a wall to stick your caboose to and thats that until you come out of hiding mode. Same thing for rails that you can hang from I think, the game is forcing you to find more stealthy routes and take down enemy soldiers instead of justing sliding across the map at speed. Theres no more crawling either, you lay down to hide and thats that, to prevent the MGS3/4 "CRAWL TO WIN!" style of playing.

You do however have lots of CQC options with throwing opponents into each other, jumping into a group of them and taking them all down with context sensitive R presses.

Theres no Drebin shop to constantly buy ammo from, no camo index or medic screens. You have the item selection screens and thats it for menus beyond any Co-Op communication stuff.

OT: I'd also note that MGS4 has fewer mandatory menu screens than MGS3, so dunno where you're getting that from.

Holy shit! That looks damn awesome.

I was very, very cautious about this game at first, but this seems to be kickass.

Looks very impressive indeed, hopefully the controls will be good and i'm set. Also, i've never heard MGS in japanese before, it sounds wrong to me.

Yeah that's what I thought. There are definitely some new tricks in PW. They've streamlined a lot of stuff (no more crawling, no moving while in cover) but also added more stuff in other ways. There's a riot shield equipment now, which allows you to hold it up and move while shooting from behind it. You can drop cardboard boxes on the ground to climb on them to reach higher platforms/roofs/shortcuts. When you're facing up to 3 enemies at the same time you can combo CQC throw them one after another. Doing a CQC throw against a wall will result in double stamina damage.

For those playing co-op, there are various new things for co-op play never before possible too. one player can "tag" on another player so he auto-follows the movement of that player while he's free to aim and shoot enemies. The marking system (with the red arrow) also works through poor visibility, so one player could throw a smoke grenade to block out the vision of enemies, while another player at the other corner marks the targets to make their location visible through the smoke so the player in front can shoot them.

Yes because MGS defined itself by having "good" multiplayer. >_>

The multiplayer in MGS3 Subsistence and MGO is actually pretty awesome. What's your point? PW would definitely benefit from having online play, even though it looks very unlikely that it'll make it in right now. Limiting the co-op to ad-hoc only is definitely something which should not be encouraged.

poor junior :(.
I was demoted for making a thread about Richard Dawkins.

Was there anything wrong with what I said? I just find it really hard to play anything on the PSP. Can you use the DS3 to play with the PSP? I remember you could do that with Resistance PSP.

But Richard Dawkins is canon in Metal Gear Solid! He is a part of the timeline and everything!

I've got to say it looks pretty damn impressive :o

I remember hearing PW will include co-op. Is this true?

And, can you use the DS3 to play with the PSP? OR is that limited to only a small number of games?

No he didn't.

It was ok at best. I mean I've had my fair share of awesome moments in it, but it just isn't as good as it could be. I responded to his quote because he said that it would be the "fail of the year" if it didn't have competitive multiplayer. I guess I couldn't care if it's in either way, as I primarily play the games solely for the awesome singleplayer experience.

I like that you can check out a soldiers stats with the binocs before ballooning them away so you can decide whether they are worth it or not :lol

Those aren't normal binocs it seems. It's an "analyzer". I bet you have to research it in motherbase and develop it. Seems pretty useful for deciding if you want to use a fulton on an enemy or not.

What does it mean when you balloon them away? Is it just a way of getting rid of bodies or is there a Portable Ops style soldier recruitment system.

It's a Portable Ops style recruitment system. No more dragging people back to a truck this time. There's an offshore base of operations for Big Boss this time, run by Miller while you're off on the missions. By capturing and recruiting soldiers, you build up the motherbase and it visually expands. You also manage the base between missions by assigning soldiers to tasks like in Portable Ops, but supposedly in a much more expanded way. You research and develop new gadgets, weapons, and upgrades which you can then customize your mission load out with.

They become the crew of Outer Heaven, an offshore base you get for participating in this game's main storyline mission. An article from before mentioned how they become your cooks, repair crew and researchers. Hopefully that info is reflected from this analyser then.

Makes a tasty stew.

Snake: "FULTON!!"

im getting an mgs1 vibe from this video which is great...cant wait

but enemy soldiers dont even have circleshadows?this looks weird, even for psp standards

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit at the invisible blanket scene. I literally said holy shit.

EDIT-LOL at the crate or whatever it was flying and dropping on the guard's head. :lol

I really do like the enemy designs, with the tie and shirts and all. Something different and a bit odd, but awesome.

EDITx2-The animations are AMAZING for a PSP game.

I have my concerns on the slim mat (that ninja thing). I hope it takes a good amount of time/resources to develop. Otherwise, I'd break easily the game flow... (Like playing for the first time the previous MGS using the stealth camo)

You can use the DS3 with every game if you have a PSP Go. Apart from that it's only if the developer decides to include it like in Resistance Retribution and I think that involves connecting the PSP to a PS3. And it's got 4 player Ad-hoc (local) co-op.

i've said this before but that is bullshit

expecting people to buy a fucking PS3 they dont want just so they can play PSP games online is retarded and something that only sony could compe up with. twats

Has it been confirmed that you are free to aim and shoot while auto-following a teammate? Because unless I was doing something wrong, you couldn't do this in the demo.

You've been told time and time again its not Sony, its up to developers to put in a full wi-fi mode for the PSP and have servers running for it. Please get this into your fucking head this time round.

It's Konami/KP's decision to not include infrastructure/online multiplayer. And at this point what sort of MGS fan doesn't have a PS3?

it's the same for EVERY FUCKING GAME

those games that do have native online tend to require some extra login on top of your PSN ID, for no fucking reason

the DS is a better online system than the PSP. THE DS!

fuck sony and their incompetence

whoever the fuck it is, it's fucking ridiculous and it's a failure of the handheld

telling me i'm "not a real gamer" if i dont own a PS3 or something equally as stupid doesn't change that

Will it be cutscene heavy?

This isn't a smart-ass MGS troll. I love the way MGS tells stories, but I'm wondering if that can be done on the PSP.

It's going to have lot of cutscenes, but I doubt it will be as heavy as MGS4, though there will probably still be a ton when compared to any other game out there. There were a lot of cutscenes in the Peace Walker demo, that you can download.

I only watched about a minute of the video because I didn't want all the awesome looking new toys to be spoiled for me!

Do we have a Worldwide release date yet? I can't wait for this.

The game has interactive 'art' cutscenes with the art done by Ashley Wood AND Shinkawa. They look gorgeous and from the demo often bleed seamlessly from 3d cutscene beginnings. If you haven't tried the demo yet, you really should.

Don't see how that can be a troll. If your asking what I think you are [and correct me if I'm wrong] but I'm very sure the original PS MGS can be done on PSP.

Kojima is taking everything bad/complained about MGS and turning them into something awesome with this game. Cutscenes, recruitment etc.
CANNOT WAIT

This looks so good. I'm satisfied with playing it on my current PSP-3000, but a PSP2 with dual analog or playing it on my PS3 would be so good.
