Im hardly a hardcore badass gamer myself, but honestly, Constanza, are you really bad at most games? I only ask because MGS1 is one of the easier games around (also one of the very best, which should go without saying).

There there! Let him play and enjoy :) Mistakes are usually fun in games!

Speaking of games, i finally got the pack. Surfed all around Toronto/GTA before i got told by a salesperson that at 2pm, they are getting 4 copies of it in Mississauga Future shop (8 copies at Toronto). I got there at 3 and only one copy was sitting there. Another copy was stuffed all the way in the back by someone (maybe trying to get a hold of money).

No offense, but i hate the fact that the cardboard box is full of french. Even comes with french booklets on the side when you open the box. Glad the game covers itself are french-free :)

Another thing i DEARLY hate that it looks like it went through repackaging here in Canada since the plastic of the box itself has a few scratches and what not as if someone forcefully shoved them all in :/ Discs are scratch-free so that's good

I just picked this up today so I could replace my scratched to hell MGS2:S and to have the ps1 version of MGS. Sweet artwork on here.

I finally have my mind fully in MGS3.

The real way to gauge how in the game you are is to play the "boss battle" where you have to face
8 Ocelot Soldiers.
Get passed that without getting caught and you're good.

Dumb question, I'm playing this on my 60gb and even in full screen mode the game doesn't take up the entire screen. Should I worry about burn-in for the sections that aren't displaying anything?

No you shouldn't. It's black, right? If so, then no worries.

Nope. To be fair, alot of the times I'd post "what do I do", I would end up figuring it out right afterwards myself.

The only thing I did that was really retarded in here was at the beginning during that shootout, and everything else has mostly been due to playing on a PS3 and not getting the clues that would apply to the PS1... and being completely out of it and forgetting there was a hole in the wall to leave a room. HOW THE HELL did I do that?

Anyone in the GVRD find this yet? I know some Canadians have but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be a bonus.

Hold them up from behind, once the soldiers put their hands up move in front of him and aim at his head or crotch.

just sneak up on a guard. stand behind him, with a gun equipped. then press&hold the square button. snake will raise his weapon, and yell "freeze!", the guard will drop his rifle and put his hands up.

from there, move to the front of the guard (don't lower your weapon or he'll attack you). go into 1st person view and aim for his head, heart or groin. he'll get scared and give you an item. do it again and he'll give you his dogtag

Thanks I'll copy that down for the next time! I'll try my best to not suck!

Curious question -- do any of you with PS3's use the smoothing option on the PSone Metal Gear Solid? I've been using it, and while it sort of helps, I'm strangely finding that not using it actually makes it look a bit better to me. Maybe I'm just losing it, or maybe it's nostalgia talking. But I was wondering what you guys did.

I'm not in Vancouver, but I just picked up two copies from Future Shop. Checking store stock online seems to show that most stores have copies in stock.

EDIT:

Checked for you. In stock at Robson and Granville Future shop.

Thanks. I was there this morning but they said they had no idea when it was coming in. Game distribution in Canada is so retarded. I wish it were like movies and cd's.

I wish pricing was more uniform as well. Even with the big stores, it seems like some games are sold on par with the american price and others are $5-10 more. A couple weeks ago I had to go to Zeller's because Blockbuster, Futureshop and Best Buy were all charging $35 for Layton, even though almost every other new DS title was $30. It's just so damn random.

Anyone else get this weird dust/debris on the MGS 2/3 discs? It looks like they shards from when the discs were cut out on the line.

OMG I miss the '80s :lol

it's my favorite commercial, not because of nostalgia as I've only seen it since it's been on youtube

I can watch that thing five times in a row and not get tired of it

I prefer the smoothing/scaling myself but if you like it that way then do it.

Playing through MGS1. (This is the farthest I have ever played it.)

Just beat Psycho Mantis. This game is pretty sweet for PS1. I can't believe I sat out on it this long.

Good luck in the Communications tower.

Good fucking god was that a bitch.

Need a sniper rifle... but I keep getting shot at by Sniper Wolf.

Good lord.

Haven't you learned yet? If you're stuck, use your codec.

I called Campbell. Guess I'll call the rest.

edit: none of them had anything else to tell me. i'll try backtracking a bit further.

Ok, im near the end of the game fighting
Rex and I am getting dominated over and over. I did this at least 3 times before on PS1 version and once on Twin Snakes, so I know I beat it before, but I dont remember if there is a trick. And fuck Solid "grraah I cant do it" Snake!

Perhaps you should revisit an area where military personnel would stock a lot of different weapons...

Go back to the
armory
.

Just watch that last YouTube clip posted on the page. The voice samples are pretty truncated.

I think you are talking about the links that I posted (not sure if you are but anyway..)

I posted youtube links to show how bad TTS was compared to MGS1. Snake sounds annoying! Gray Fox is the only one who sounds OK (I prefer the old Gray Fox though) That was my main problem with BB in MGS3 as well.

Badass does not = gruff, over-the-top, constipated voice!
I liked young Ocelot 1000+ times better than BB. Or even Volgin
Hell even Dante was better in DMC3 (and I thought he was annoying as hell).. I hope DH does better in MGS4.

Chaff grenades trivialize the fight.

This shall be renamed the official thread of people playing/replaying MGS1.

I'll start playing it on Saturday. It'll be my first play through. I read the whole digital graphic novel, started Twin Snakes a thousand times, started PS1 version several times, but this time...i'm gonna do it all the way.

I considered this... but it's SO far away. Gah. Be back soon when I get there.

Does that still work in the second part of the fight?
]

Not really.
In the second half of the fight you need to get under MG Rex and avoid getting squashed until he stops for a couple seconds so that you can fire a Stinger into the cockpit
.

So I started a file in MGS2 and I noticed my stealth camoed snake is wearing sunglasses, Now I've been through MGS2 many many times collecting dog tags on many difficulties and never have I seen this.

*edit* Never mind beating the game a few times gets you this.
