You're loving it aren't you?! I'm proud of you, Constanza. You did well today, soldier.

Edit: I'm cracking up reading all your reactions in response to the game. Every bit of it goes great with your avatar.

I went to GS looking for Heavenly Guardian, and they didn't have that. So I got MGS Collection. Maybe now I will play through 2 once and for all.

Not from me, I regularly go through the PS1 era Final Fantasy games and Gran Turismo 2... takes me back to when I didn't have to worry about work and stuff... nostalgia's a hell of a drug... :D

You sir, are inspirational! :D

Costanza, IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

Don't answer your Codec during the Psyco Mantis fight for any reason.

THIS IS OF GRAVE IMPORTANCE

Would it be OK if I save before the fight and do it, just to see? I'm curious...

Alright folks. Do or die time. Amazon has yet to ship my preorder. I own:
MGS (PSOne)
MGS: VR Missions (PSOne)
MGS TTT (GCN)
MGS2s (PS2) (incl. Doc. of MGS2)
MGS3s LE (PS2) (incl. MGS Saga Vol. 1 disc)

I'm not feeling this anymore. Should I quickly cancel my order? Is there ANYTHING redeeming about this package?

Individual Boxart.

And front Boxart of all three individual Boxarts with three drawings of Snake in the background!

That's exactly what I hope doesn't happen. I understand how the games have aged and I've experienced how people react to the games on their first play through. I hope people can see past that though and understand why the games are so popular.

I myself have no problems playing the original PSX version. I prefer it to the GCN Twin Snakes remake, actually.
Agreed. I hope people will can see through the surface to find the excellent game that lies beneath. What I always do is put myself in the time period of the game's release. I ignore the modern day conveniences and appreciate what's made available to me.

GAF, its more fun when you think of George Costanza actually playing and yelling at the screen... :lol
Haha.. I think that's what we're all doing...and it's working.

I envy all of you lucky bastards that are playing the series, especially part 1, for the first time. I've probably played the first game at least 36 times. I wish it was all new to me still.

"A surveillance camera?"

"Ha, must've been a tight fit for a big boy like you."

Hmmm, I was going to go through my first run-through of the MGS titles in here, but it's getting super-spoilery already, and that's just with one person playing. I already know that
I'm going to have to look at the back of the game's package
at some point in the first game, so I think I'll just start my own Uber-LTTP thread once Choke On The Magic's memory card gets here.

Although I must say, the idea of a 15 minute cutscene has me bordering on seeing if I can still get my money back from Gamestop. Are the cutscenes at least skippable?

This series isn't Mario Bros.
Skipping cutscenes in a Metal Gear Solid game is tantamount to complaining to a Movie Theatre Manager that they should fast forward the talking scenes in an Action Movie so that you don't have to sit through them and be bored!

Watch the Cutscenes and you'll "get" why people love the Metal Gear Solid Series.

Don't watch the cutscenes and you might as well go play Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels or something... :/

I know. I have a friend who's playing through it for his first time now and it's awesome hearing his reactions to everything. :lol

Please don't fucking be like this. :/

i gots mine.

i'm no noob to mgs but halfway through mgs2 i walked away from the series because the story started getting so fruity (and it had almost nothing to do with raiden, imo). mgs3 was a return to form, but i ended up trading it in on a whim before ever getting far.

but then... the mgs4 trailer came along. and i knew i just had to get in on that. i'm starting over with mgs2 and so far it's aged good. not quite as fun as it was in 2003 though.

Ah, I wish MGS3 had that boxart instead. Why do we have Eva on the boxart? It should just be The Boss and Big Boss.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

@ Otacon

All this shit would have flown past me 10 years ago. I'm glad I'm playing this now.

what is it with people selling their game before finishing it D:

It's on the back of the cardboard case that all the games were in.
The President lied god dammit.

Wow. I was straining my eyes looking at all the AGCTCTACT crap on the back of that MGS case expecting to find it hidden in there.

Is this only available at gaming retail stores like EB Games, Gamespot etc. or are normal stores gonna get it too (Future Shop, Best Buy etc)?

i'm broke, so whenever a "omg i must have it now" game is released i impulsively trade in a bunch of games, hoping it'll be worth it.

i regret giving away mgs3, but luckily this collection came to redeem me

Would it really be that limited? I ordered off Amazon so I'd assume it'd be at Best Buy and such. Although I have to wait 5 days to get it for some odd reason.

Quick question before I get started tomorrow.. should I buy a DS3 before playing these or does it really not matter? I remember hearing rumble is used well in these games (referring to 2 and 3)

That is so true! MGS games are all about the story, and you won't get it if you skip the cutscenes. I agree with whoever said a few pages back, if the idea of sitting through 15 minutes of cutscenes bother you that much then perhaps this series ain't for you. Payton confirmed MGS4 will be just like that.

Well, I'm a bit different than most people here. I practically grew up with this series and it's story. Which is why I am REALLY excited about the story/cutscenes than using the new and improved gameplay. I'm sure I will love the gameplay but that's for second playthrough. I'll be playing MGS4 on VERY EASY during first playthrough just to get to the cutscenes :P

too bad twin snakes never got ported to ps2. having that instead of the original mgs would've really sealed the deal. it's sort of weird and inconsistent having a psone game in the collection. but i'm satisfied regardless.

hey looks like you got a reason to play mgs1 again.

I am playing it right now. I think the last time was 3 years ago and I think I've played it 50+ times but still I can't seem to remember who says that. :(

It would have been cheaper to combine the PSone discs on to one PS2 DVD and enable PS2 memory save, which is what they should have done
