Metal Gear Solid V Res Confirmed: Sub-720p (PS3/360), 720p (XB1), 1080p (PS4)

I'm amazed and pleased that Konami put up this comparison themselves. Good for them.

This must be a little embarrassing for Microsoft to have such a large disparity with the game that started their Xbox One E3 press conference.

I'll wait for the digital foundry analysis and pick up the PS3/360 version depending on which is better. Then get the full MGS5 on whatever next gen console I own by that time (if they still decide against a PC version).

I didn't make it
Oh man, this gif hahaha. Notice the glasses right away.

Whelp. At least it's 60fps on XB1. I'm picking it up on XB1 on launch, won't be buying a PS4 till sometime later this year.

Pretty huge difference regardless.

These multiplat comparisons are made to tell to truth about differences right?

Different rendering techniques and different levels of visual results stress different architectural bottlenecks. It's not a coincidence that games in the same visual category show the same resolution gap.

They aren't. Most are 900p+.

Maybe it's just me but I get a Senjetsu Sage vibe from your posts. On a post-by-post basis, maybe not so much - but overall (at least to me) it seems like you're pretty persistent at either defending, isolating or otherwise ignoring some of the Xbox One issues.

Maybe it's just my perception or the just the threads I tend to enter and pay attention to, and I'm certainly not accusing you of being a shill or anything. But looking at your posts in this thread I just got this feeling that you're in defense mode. Certainly posts like 'Sports games are 1080p 60fps' are doing no favours given the laughable effort and optimisation that has went into said titles, particularly on behalf of EA.

As for the PS4/XB1 differences - the game isn't particularly stunning (from what I've seen - happy to be corrected) however in terms of raw performance that is a huge gap. I hope these threads keep appearing and receiving the attention as long as Microsoft keep spinning the 'balance' narrative and Penello continues to avoid discussing his obvious bullshit on GAF.

Well.. Xbox 360/PS3 versions look very good, if you ask me.

PS4's bigger resolution is the game changer, really. Looks much, much better than the Xbox One.

I don't really get it. The Xbox One is way more powerful than the 360 yet the 360 is still keeping up, yeah the Xbox One version has double the FPS but you would think it could output this game at 1080p natively considering it's 8-10x more powerful than the 360.

Dev tools must be terrible

I don't have an Xbox One so I was always going to be getting this on PS4. But man, the difference is quite stark to me.

Wow, if you asked me a year ago I would have never guessed that nearly every multiplatform game would be significantly better on the PS4.

I'm probably being a tad pedantic but shouldn't the title have a GZ in it? I doubt MGSV is finished enough to make these types of claims where Ground Zero obviously is

I'm not really surprised by any of this but I am impressed with the PS360 version of the game considering the hardware. I suspect, in person, it will look rather nice on both systems despite the poor image quality.

I'll definitely play it on PS4, though, as it is clearly the most polished version.

Honestly, not sure which is which. Aside from resolution/framerate, the next-gen version look damn similar.
Well, texture filtering is awful on PS360 and resolution is sub-720p. Plus, in motion, the XB1 version is 60 fps like PS4 so it will still look nice.

Max: Curse of Brotherhood says "hello"
Actually, I felt deceived by that game. They claim 1080p60 but that's not entirely true. It drops frames a LOT during play and feels kind of jerky at times as a result. It's not an impressive looking game and the framerate isn't stable.

That Fox Engine! The last-gen versions still look damn solid. The difference between the surface shaders on the ground in that PS3/4 comparison blows me away a little bit.

Agreed. The shaders and lighting look awesome. Even the last gen versions are pretty good. I'm now sold on buying the DD version of GZ. Was going to hold off until PP (it will be bundled) but there is no way I can wait a year, or even 2 years to play some 1080p Metal Gear, 30 dollars be damned. I'll just walk really slow to make it last longer.

And it's 0p and 0fps on my PC or Wii U ;_;

Anyways, I think it's time to stop acting like we're surprised by this... Yes, it's been established, the Xbox One is weaker. But why do we need to have these arguments over power? Just buy a nice gaming PC if you want the best graphics. Otherwise, get the platform with the most exclusives you like.

These comparisons are just getting silly. It's about the games people, as long as they're good, who cares what resolution they run at?
60fps is golden though
This argument is certainly fresh and new

Really? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the ESRAM available just isn't enough for a 1080p frame buffer? Outside of some twitter posts and the misterxmedia drivel I'm not sure where this 'dev tools' discussion is stemming from.

Thats not how it works unfortunately

Not ignoring anything. Just replying to what people are saying.

I did the same for PS3/360 comparison threads back on others forums (I didn't post here yet) when Xbox fans said wrong things about versions of PS3 multiplats.

I just simply reply to posters if they say something that I know isn't true. Do it in every thread I participate in.

The Xbox One likely could run the game at 1080p. But not at 60FPS. I don't really think it has much to do with dev tools.

Actually looks really great on PS360. I don't plan on buying it, but if I do it'll probably be on my PS3. As for the 'Bone vs. the PS4, getting a bit tired of these resolution arguments although hopefully some MS exec or other will come out to defend this because that always provides a good laugh.

They use DirectX 11 for them - or FF XV at least. So i don't think it will be such a drastic difference between XB1/PS4. The tools will also mature by that time frame.

I wasn't expecting that with MGS - which is basically a polished last-gen game - but here we are!

Really? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that the ESRAM available just isn't enough for a 1080p frame buffer?

There is no uniform setup for such buffers. Some games use more buffers (e.g. a G-Buffer) and bigger buffers (with more information per pixel), others don't. The more space for buffers you need, the earlier you hit the eSRAM limit. And then shit hits the fan and performance drops disproportionally.

this is why I'm very interested to see comparisons between the 360/XB1 versions of titanfall.

like you said, its 0 fps on your PC.

For a while there wasn't he on the "parity" bandwagon? I recall a bunch of 'no power difference' type comments, but I could be mistaken.

People started to notice and care. No they have to switch talking points.

he said there was a little difference. Also PS4 is the only new console out once Ground Zeroes hits in japan iirc

Why did I buy an Xbox One?

Not sure if you're serious or sarcastic but you could still use it as a exclusive box and some of the TV features should you live in NA. Around 90% of my PS3 retail games are exclusives with the other 10% or so being the extremely rare cases of multiplats being slightly better on PS3.
