With Quiet i distinctly remember the demo showing it as a 'shoot this' option.

In the game, you press L1 to bring up a menu, such as knock or call D Horse (if he is your buddy). I guess with Quiet, you get more options like 'shoot this'.

The more you use a certain buddy in a mission the more things you can unlock for said buddy to do. For example D-horse started with only
just being able to call him wherever you are in the map. Recently, I unlocked the ability for him to take a shit and what's funny it's called "Do it(Defecate)" lmao.

EDIT: Another cool tidbit, if you don't shower for a while. All the blood and dirt will still be visible, even in cutscenes.

I still haven't moved beyond Mission 2. :lol I've gone back to do the side tasks in the previous ones to 100%. They actually lead you to seeing more of the game and exploring more too so definitely recommend people do them and return to past missions to fully complete.

Just need to redo mission 2 one more time to S rank it and I will then move on.

The game is just sublime in terms of both the graphics and the gameplay. It's amazing to think this is from the same developer who made MGS and MGS2.

I've put about five hours into the game and I'm finding it hard to put down. I like how you are not punished for getting found, but you better have an escape plan because the enemy AI is really top tier. I like how when I'm hit by a shotgun shell I get knocked over.

Upgrading Mother Base is a lot of fun, as it has that just one more kinda feel to it because you want to upgrade so you can get those better weapons and items. In this game you really do need everything you can get your hands on.

There was some speculation that the alternative E3 demo could've been from a PC build, as it looked better than the primary E3 one. Konami said it's PS4 though.
If anyone on PS4 has time could you snap a screenshot from this view to compare, or at least say if this matches the retail build?

If it's actually PS4 I would be very positively surprised. The vegetation and LOD seem so much better than GZ.

This should be spoiler free.

I'm so glad the game has 156 side ops which do not have any rank attached to them. Trying to S rank all of them would take me so much time. It's a lot more fun this way. You can always choose to go full stealth or not give a fuck and go full demon because there's no rank you have to worry about. I think that's great. Keeping the S ranks only for the main missions makes it so the game doesn't end up being too repetitive because you keep trying to S rank everything.

My roommate today actually told me he feels like this game sounds like a far more epic version of Hitman. I actually never quite made that connection before, but it does song rather similar in nature. A mission-based game that is open world that requires you to be creative. Does that sound like an apt description of MGSV?

Why do we still have 10 different threads on mgsv on main page.

Where is the OT? We should have a spoiler thread and eveything else spoiler free should go in the OT. We are a few days from launch, surely we can have a OT by now...

OT goes up the day before launch, which is August 31st.

OTs don't go up until 24 hours before launch.

Aye, I'm making the OT and I've already asked a moderator about this... there will be no exception. The 24 hour rule still applies.

Oh god the graphical comments are making me thirst for Silent Hills with Fox Engine more. Why Konami :( Would've been one ridiculous horror game.

Has anyone come across what was referenced in boot camp etc about completing the hidden mission objectives leading to another side op unlock with story elements? Haven't gone back and fully completed a main mission yet. Wondering where it's unlocked, side ops? Any clear indication it has story? Or was it all bs

I've been saying since day 1 MGSV is more like Hitman than every other open world game that it's compared to, even Far Cry.

People are way too attached to the marketing buzzword of "open world" and not treating MGSV as a "gameplay sandbox"

  • Opening is one of the best openings in any MGS game, for comparison my favorite was the MGS2 opening. Be sure that you're free for like 2 or so hours so you could experience it with no interruptions.
  • Harry Gregson-Williams score is phenominal. Has the feeling of triumph, sadness, anger and some synth mixed in.
  • Exploring the open world is kind of empty but traversing + collecting things for MB is fun because the game is such a joy to control. As you progress through the game you'll want to revisit previous missions because you're slowly gaining new shit to experiment with.
  • I cannot stress this enough, THE TAPES ARE VERY IMPORTANT. Big Boss talks there alot and even though he talks in cutscenes as well he's much more of a silent person but make no mistake, the facial performance is great and you can feel what he's feeling without saying it(I'm the guy who prefers if he talks but I also welcome this take as well)
  • Game is overwhelming at first but after a few hours, everything will become second nature to the player.
  • Didn't find many Easter Eggs but for those who have the game, go to your MotherBase and tranquilize Ocelot. See what happens.
  • The game looks much better than GZ on Xbox One and the pop-in is reduced significantly.
  • The animations and overall control feels on point and fine tuned much better than GZ ever was.

EDIT: No dips in FPS as well in the Xbox One version, at all. However, the game crashed on me once in a 4-5 hour session. Luckily, it autosaves alot.

So you can retry main story missions with better equipment as you obtain it during the same playthrough?

At any time from the ACC. It's like the GZ mission select but through the iDroid on the chopper. Very arcadey type of select and go.

Where is everyone getting this early from?

A lot of people ordered from Simply Games. They're notorious for posting out games 3-5 days before release.

Mine is with the courier and due at midday today. Weekend sorted.

Edit: If you ordered today you can get next day delivery and it should come tomorrow.

Yes. That goes the same for side missions since they are all mission based, drop in and drop out. Get this, if you drop in Afghanistan and you got like 5 side missions, you could do them all in one go in real time with no loadings or nothing. For story missions its different though, you're confined essentially in a really big square within Afghanistan as a whole and the reason they did this from what I understood is that it makes it easier to get out of the hotzone by foot or vehicle instead of getting a chopper always. Once you get out of the hotzone, it'll tell you mission complete. The square is REALLY BIG so it's not something to worry about. It's like 50 times the size of GZ.

For side missions, it's different. The entire map is yours and you could just do the side mission or do half of it and then go do another one or don't do it at all lol, it's all up to you. It'll actually tell you that there is a side mission here if you reached that particular area and forgot to mark the mission by yourself.

How big are these maps?

GTA5 big?

I'm going to go on a limb and say it's half the map of GTA4-5. It's pretty fucking big.

Yep. Would be good to get confirmation the LOD system has been improved. Really let the overall presentation down in GZ.

This game rewards intelligent thinking.

If you go in to a village to get a target while improvising without stopping to assess the situation and consider what you'll do if shit hits the fan, you'll get burned.

Reaching a target area, assessing the surroundings, marking enemies and working out who's worth extracting and who isn't and how you'll isolate them, planning diversions and potential traps and escape routes in case you trigger an alert - this game just rewards patience and planning and it makes it so, so satisfying when you pull off a mission.

If anyone wants to know the amount of side ops:
157

Now I don't know whether that is just Afghanistan or what though.

Edit: I think that's the total.

Lack of time and a girlfriend who will most likely be around when I'm playing means I will probably have to listen to them whilst commuting! I'm worried about missing things prior to listening to them appearing in game!
Tis is a bad idea. As far as I am understood a significant part of the story and lore is in there. Fulton our girlfriend and play the game in peace.

I was initially planning to binge and then listen to them on the way to work or whatever

Maybe I'll be more careful to listen to them as they come up - thanks for the advice guys

So, I'm on a side op, it's gone from me trying to Fulton out a prisoner, to me hearing A-ha - take on me and wanting to collect that before I rescue him in the same Base.

About finding Quiet,
A friend of mine found her in the ruins at night, went to the same ruins, didn't find her.

This was after doing the 6th main mission.

Is she gone forever?

I doubt it. Probably just has a prerequisite we're unaware of yet.

I won't spoil anything but your first interaction with Quiet is awesome. I still have issues with her hugely over sexualised character design but as a character, I really like her so far. :)

I actually like the sound of the massively big locations despite being supposedly "empty". I have always been dreaming of games that actually give you a giant open world and doesn't fill it up with random stuff every 5 metres. If the world gives you good sense of realistic scale then this will be the a dream come true for me.

I think some of those describing the world as being "empty" are being slightly disingenuous anyway, to be honest.

It's very big and naturally a lot of that space serves travel to and from and to connect locations. It's not a big open world in the sense that you're going to want to explore it all, like The Witcher or Skyrim.

Instead, the size is used to provide function. The size of the map lets you strategise infiltration and exit points. It lets you work around and scope out outposts from distance, and provides enough room to escape if necessary. It allows the game to work with numerous locations per mission rather than just 1, and to provide context to each games primary objective areas.

It's also easy to underestimate the map. Travelling from one location to another in one of the early missions on horseback, I actually came across a road checkpoint where the guards were on high alert from my actions up the road. I didn't even spot the checkpoint at first. I just naively set off from point A to point B, and winded up in a fair bit of trouble for not minding my surroundings and the environment.
