Metal Gear Solid V Spoiler Free Impressions Thread

I remember previews mentioning you could miss Quiet entirely, but i don't think that's the case, right ?

also, I only allowed myself one spoiler, I was really curious about the reasons behind Quiet's outfit.
Now I know.

Isn't that a regular mission?
Because that sounds like mission 5 and I did that...and missed her.
Let me double check :)

If I remember correctly, main mission 5 is to
rescue the scientist who made it
but side op 6 is to
retrieve stun arm blueprints
.

After checking, this seems to be the case :P you just need to choose a landing zone near the Yakho Oboo Supply Outpost, head north along that track and then work your way west.

Spoiler free impressions thread

Sea of black bars
Most of the spoilers are very mild, like mission names and objectives vs. the spoiler thread which is more entire game discussion. A lot of people got the game early and there isn't an OT yet so I'm not really sure where else to discuss this stuff. :/

Yeah I got it early too and I agree, it's tough to know where and what to discuss.

I was just joking really. Feels like the OT should be put up but I suppose rules are rules

You guys are getting me all desperate for an early copy of the game.
Now I gotta turn every rock I can find to get the game this weekend, anyone know a distributor in Sweden that releases games prematurely? ;)

Ah ok :P yeah it's kind of a weird situation, it's the first time I've ever played a game this much before launch and I got stuck on a side op and of course there's no help to be had :P

There was some speculation that the alternative E3 demo could've been from a PC build, as it looked better than the primary E3 one. Konami said it's PS4 though.
If anyone on PS4 has time could you snap a screenshot from this view to compare, or at least say if this matches the retail build?

If it's actually PS4 I would be very positively surprised. The vegetation and LOD seem so much better than GZ.

Wait there were doubts as to whether footage from Gamescom was running on actual PS4 hardware?

Can someone confirm the game's vegetation looks as the previously quoted picture?

Edit: Ah when you've already got a knife to them. Yeah try choking a bit like the poster below suggested.

Check out the digital foundry thread I guess. Personally I think it looks better during day time by a fair margin.

I choke them for a second or two after asking, then interrogate again. Pretty sure it works.

Yeah, some enemies refuse to talk to me no matter what, maybe i need an special ability for those tough mother fuckers.

another noob question xd

Is there a quick way to travel between platforms in the mother base? also, anyone knows a good path to do target pratice on R&D?

You tell me. I know off screen picture but for the life of me I'm taking screenshots from the Xbox One itself but for some reason I can't save them to the cloud so I could share them in direct feed 1080p png goodness, they are just there on my console for some reason. Anyways, this is just to give you an idea and keep in mind it's the Xbox One version, I'll spoiler tag the images.

It's from E3 where they showed two different gameplay videos, and the alternative one was a bit better looking than the first one. It also had "Press menu button" in title screen, that was not in the other video.

So I'm just wondering if it was an updated PS4 build (that should match the release version), or the PC build masked as PS4.

hmm... spoiler tagging the images doesn't seem to work on GAF mobile.

Maybe it's better to just post image links (not that the ones you shared are spoilery in any way).

Without naming any specific instances, does extracting a character you're sent to kill have any repercussions in the plot?

Thanks for informing me, done.

So far? No. It's more like "hey, lets make him/her work for us instead!"

Near the heli platforms are a small orange like platform, sit in your box on top of one of them, then it'll prompt you to hold triangle, then you can choose where to go. I can't even find all the targets on the R&D.

Hmmm it's early days, only done like 5 or so missions but I miss the codec already. The abundance of cassette tapes isn't really the same.

They are so important though, it's bizzare they didn't make a better system for them

Oh yeah absolutely I've listened to quite a few already and they are all quite interesting and provide you with a wealth of story I just preferred it the old way. Not being able to call someone up for a random chat is kinda sad. Ocelot giving information when tagging things is a poor substitute.

Not sure if its been discussed yet but a few questions:

1. Does Kiefer have a lot of lines during the gameplay/cutscenes? (I know theres a lot of cassette tapes talking as I already learned)

2. Is there a lot of cutscenes and are they as good as past games? (Yes i fuken love MGS cutscenes)

3. Are there boss battles and are they as good as past games?

4. Is there a lot of plot twists and will the ending have me shitting my pants of awesomeness/mind-blowing?

How playable is the game if I am not that interested in Mother Base?

Playable.

Though you'll miss out on all kinds of awesome gear/ camo's and stuff. It's easy to grow anyway not sure why anyone wouldn't, gather resources, do side ops, fulton soldiers and gear etc

I'm not a Metal Gear fan. I like MGS 1, 2, and 3, but I skipped all the cutscenes in 2 and I didn't get very far in 3 for some reason. I also didn't play 4 at all.

About the games I played, I primarily enjoy the boss battles and the "video-gamey" elements of them. I also like the quirkiness and weirdness of the characters and dialogue, and I appreciate that the games take themselves seriously enough where I can like the characters and appreciate the story and message, but not enough that they're just like... I guess "boring movies" for lack of a better explanation.

Does this game fall in line with the previous ones in that regard? I'm considering buying it on Steam because I want a new, modern game to play on my new PC, but from what admittedly little I've seen of the game, I'm not 100% sure if it'll be up my alley.

(I also have MGS 4 in my possession, but haven't played it, so if the answer is "if you like 4, you'll like this game" then I'll just try 4 and see how I feel.)

Thanks!

I don't think it's that playable. It seems quite grindy so far, to me at least. Like PW grindy.

There have been a few moments so far where I wished it was more like MGS1/2 where you would just get your equipment and use it. In this, you really have to put in effort to get your equipment.

How about getting Ground Zeroes for PC? It's pretty cheap and will give you a perfect feeling of whether you like Phantom Pain.

I'm not a real MGS geek and only played MGS4. I never found the gameplay very compelling (luckily, the game was 75% cutscenes anyway). But I really liked Ground Zeroes. The stealth gameplay has great flow and the D-pad weapon selection is a really welcome addition.

I'm really excited about the 'Subsistence' variants of certain missions.

In these it's genuinely 'weapons and equipment OSP'. You are forced to do the whole mission without any gear on your own and fine all your gear in the field.

Guys, guys. Can you plant c4 on wild animal? I must know.

Yes. And guards.

The whole point is BB and Kaz rebuilding what they lost 9 years ago, which is another Motherbase.

Playable.

Ok thanks guys. I will have to put up with it then. Just asking because I hated the Peace Walker mission style where I could start an op because I was missing C4 etc. and had to do some side missions in between. I am here to see the story and enjoy the gameplay during story missions. I don't have much time to play games anymore (average 2-3 hours per week mostly on weekends) so I totally despise grinding on the side and having to wait a week to play another story mission just because I have to "wait" (and play side missions) until an important item is ready.
