I seem to recall some promotional material mentioning that you could deploy as a member of Diamond Dogs, something to do with the individual soldier's specialty. Anyone messed around with this yet?

If so, can you deploy as a Mother Base solider with a buddy?

Thanks for answering questions in here y'all. :3

I hate how suppressors last less than one clip.

Perfect example of a "gamey" element of design. Doesn't make any sense, but it's there for the sake of balance. You may be able to upgrade the suppressors, not sure. Also, you can call additional supplies (including suppressors) from your base.

Silly question: how easy is it to miss "major" side things like characters and the like?

So far I don't think there is anyone easy to miss unless there are other characters we haven't seen but even then, as long as you mix up side ops with main missions I don't think you'd miss anyone.

I didn't feel a difference, just a different character model but to be fair I haven't experimented maybe each soldier does have a special ability? I'll have to check and get back to you. As for your second question yes, you could deploy as a MB soldier with a buddy.

Had a moment where a 4x4 jeep was travelling along the road. In anticipation I placed some c4 on the road and ran up the mountain to my hiding spot. As the jeep got closer I realised I wasn't sure where I planted the c4. Because of that I blew up the c4 a bit early. The guards got out of the jeep to investigate. I tranc-end them all, sent them to mother base and drove off in the jeep.

You pretty much took exactly what I was going to post, word for word.

I'm about 8 hours in, 8 missions done. Gameplay is awesome. Takes the Peace Walker concept and perfects it. This is also the best looking game I've ever played from a technical + art direction standpoint. It is gorgeous.

But the lack of story/cutscenes is killing me. Totally unlike any other Metal Gear in this aspect. Wesker ain't lying when he says there's been like 5 minutes of cutscenes in the first handful of HOURS playing this game. The tapes are neat but it's not the same. Even Peace Walker had more cutscenes at this point. I'm just going down the list of missions at this point... just to do them. The lack of story/incentive is really strange.

What are the other big games that you've played if you don't mind me asking?

And the no-story part is a real shame, that's what happens when you go open world, you get a bad paced story, unless you go full RPG and build your game almost entirely on that.

The wait is driving me

It's very addictive gameplay let alone when you have Mother Base and it's staff management in order to develop cool new things, it's like crack to me. Thought I would have hated that aspect, but I ended up loving it.

Test test

Maybe I might've missed this but will we clearly know what "V has come to" means after playing TPP? I see it everywhere. Thanks!

For those who are fortunate enough to be playing right now (lucky bastards lol), do any of the boss battles in TPP replace any of your current top 10 MGS boss battles?? Tuesday can't come soon enough and my hype level is through the roof

Not going to fool me, Kojima! Great job on the game.

This sounds awful. So much so that it's making me second guess picking my CE pre order. When it comes to the Metal Gear series, story is what's most important to me. :(

I know exactly what you mean and I've been concerned about that as well. However, having played ground zeros, that little bit of story that was in there was so powerful that I feel like TTP will be fine. The tone of the game is different, but I like it. What I love most about this series is how every game is so different.

The story is there it's just not presented in a way you will be accustomed to. Seriously the cassette tapes in this game are no joke and nobody should skip them.

I checked and yup, some of the MB soldiers have special abilities. For example one runs faster and one has a longer reflex time.etc

I'm going through levels and an open world and I can kill! Without penalty, or rather by missing a minimal bonus. In a Metal Gear Solid game! It's like they've gone "we've developed this wide range of weaponry and items, have fun actually using them."

This is taking some getting used to. So far the miniscule amount of ammo and weak suppressors early on don't matter.

Not a spoiler of course but you never know, some people may take that small thing a spoiler if it is a yes or a no, who knows lol I just feel like people should have as much information as possible or else what's the use of us people who have the copy early? This should make people on the fence about the game decide whether to go for it or not and hopefully after all these impressions as well as answers, they'll be able to make a decision easier.

The people who are bothered by that and think of it as a spoiler should just not enter this thread and go on a blackout till they play the game, as anything anyone says will be a spoiler according to them, because they haven't played the game yet and anyone posting any impression has played the game.

I think those are the specialists you can capture in the field. An upgraded scope tells you what skills along with grade enemies have so you aren't constantly grabbing shitty D grade soldiers all the time.

According to the PSN timer the game's coming out at 4pm on Tuesday where I live. I'm probably going to come back home early from uni to play it haha.

I played for like 12 hours straight yesterday. The game is amazing, but somehow my stealthy mission approaches always escalate into fullblown massacres. Loving it. Finally developed a non-lethal AR, so hopefully less dead soldiers from now on when I get caught.

Yeah i just noticed the timer and was shocked, the old preorder page said midnight PST but it now says midnight EST. That will be 9pm for me!

Same.

It keeps failing at that last moment. D:

How are you so sure?

Ground Zeroes mostly, and the official gameplay trailers and what they've demonstrated in play.

MGS4 was a one-two-punch for me. Act 1 and 2 teased some really awesome gameplay ideas and narrative (if silly), but the end of Act 2 onwards deteriorated both into fanservice, gimmicks, and some utterly horrendous story. Even with all the pulp and silliness in Metal Gear, that I do love, MGS4 hit the wall for me where during numerous cutscenes I was very conscious of the fact I was not enjoying what was happening.

Peace Walker introduced some interesting play ideas but, for my taste anyway, had itself held back by the dated hardware so badly that none of these systems were given room to breath. It has the worst stealth in the series in my opinion, the worst bosses, the worst levels, and additionally the worst narrative that seemed to toe a weird line between dumb ideas and also keeping itself lukewarm for the younger target demographic.

Ground Zeroes proved to me that larger place space is just what the series needs. And I come from a camp that's usually very apprehensive about games going "open world". Nevertheless, I had more fun fucking around on camp Omega than I did MGS4 and Peace Walker, and the idea of having multiple outposts and bases to approach with a similar degree of player freedom has me super excited. I also feel this open world environment, with greater agency to approach, better compliments an upgrade/mother base system than Peace Walker's tiny, limited environments and excessively recycled formula.

Narrative wise I might be a little bit let down because I enjoy the MGS/MGS2/MGS3 formula just as much as everybody else, but I also feel a little bit like the Zelda series fans gravitate towards Metal Gear Solid for a variety of reasons, and "abundance of cutscenes" is not mine. Metal Gear narrative needs to be there, but I sure as shit don't want it to be like MGS4, and even MGS3 (as much as I love it) could be toned back. I like idea of Metal Gear style cutscenes acting as rewarding bookends to longer stretches of play, which I think Phantom Pain appears to be structured as.

Usually in stealth games as soon as I trigger an alert I restart from the last checkpoint but in this game I usually just roll with it.

The only thing I'm not liking about the game so far are some of the side ops are extremely repetitive and it doesn't help that a lot of them are exactly the same. For the extract prisoner side ops they don't even change the location of the prisoner so it's the exact same mission again with nothing different.

Actually they are all in different locations but they are open to be repeated and my guess is that it makes it easier to grind for high skilled soldiers/GMP? Who knows, like how the target practice is always open for replay even if you finished them.

Another theory I thought of is that some of the soldiers you send out in Outer Ops end up missing so maybe they end up captured and thus you see the prisoner extract mission playable again?

In any case though I think it's great that you can replay it for easy skilled soldiers + GMP.

Really? For me they've always been in the exact same building in the exact corner of the room they were always in.

Anyone playing the XB1 version? How does it look and perform compared to Ground Zeroes? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this game too much, but I'm a longtime fan of Metal Gear.

I meant they are numbered ones. Prisoner extraction 1, 2, 3 ,4 and so on. Some of them though at certain times become playable again and I was just explaining what may be the reason they get playable again as opposed to the other Side Ops that are just one and done.

Looks damn good. Wait for the official release date and I'll take some non-spoilery screenshots. I can't right now because Xbox One disables saving screenshots to the cloud for sharing for unreleased games.

The thing I'm worried about is running out of time. I like to do things slow and steady.

I heard that 1 min = 1 hour gametime, which means a day lasts only 24 mins.

Is that enough time to do everything in game?

Uh there is no time limit, you can take as much as you want in a mission unless the mission itself has a time limit then that's another matter entirely.

Do you need to
take Quiet on missions
to get her full story, or are you free to take who you want, when you want without missing anything?

PM'd

Wow, so Mother Base base expansions don't continue when your console is off. That is kinda shit.

Also, is there a trick to mission 11? Or do I just have to wear the target down?

Wow. Kojima Productions ladies and gentlemen.

Hahah, yeah. You can blame Kojima Productions or the Japanese work ethic but you cannot deny that people were complaining that the PC release was originally a week later. You can't have your cake and eat it, sadly.
