Just a note, maxed out quiet with her best sniper rifle is stupidly broken.

I keep getting S ranks and singlehandedly letting her clear bases and destroy tanks with her abilities. D-Dog is also the best buddy imo.

I wonder how OP would Ocelot had been if they really had put him in. Imagine that, they removed him because it was too OP.

How do I get more information on side targets during a mission? I only see question marks. And why is the side ops item blocked in the idroid?

You don't. They'll get revealed once you beat the mission, my guess it's done for replay value unless you can guess what may be a "task" for you to do within a main mission. Also, what do you mean by blocked?

As I guy who loved the first 4 to death and hated PW. I am the opposite. Just everything clicked with me and I am finding myself loving it more because the more you give your time to it, the more things you unlock, the more you understand how everything is done all around you as well as the mechanics in full.

Furthermore there have been amazing moments, it's just spread out. Not as memorable as the opening but definitely memorable in their own right. I think people have to look at it as " Do I want to feel like Big Boss? or do I want Big Boss to do what he does while I watch?" you know all those stories about BB being badass? Thanks to MGS5, now I believe them because I can do them.

EDIT: There are somethings I REAAALLLLYYY want to talk about but I'm keeping my mouth absolutely shut about anything story related. Will wait when everyone else gets there.

Without spoiling anything: The intro is kind of a thing unto itself, the game proper is quite different and takes a bit of getting used to. If you've played GZ you'll know how many systems there are and controls to master, and its constantly added new toys to the playbox as you go in. It really can feel overwhelming.

There's kind of a sticky patch near the start where you can find you have neither the skills or the tools to smoothly proceed, but it soon rectifies itself. Once you get over this "hump", and you start to feel like your in control its a joy to play.

As to the lack of "metal gear" feel... Hogwash. There are plenty of CS and with the intro particularly being Kojima-in-Excelsis! Don't worry about it being a drab Clancy-esque military sim, it s always *highly apparent* this is a Kojima joint, with all the nuttiness that entails.

Over 40 hours here and my opinion didn't change at all, hell the game just gets better and better, I find it funny because I didn't really like the intro. And the only "repetitive" part I'm getting tired of is the helicopter, having to see the fly in/out of missions over and over again gets really old, wish there was an option to just skip the animation/scene if there are no enemies around.

It is a different kind of MGS, but an amazing game nonetheless. However, it is understandable why some of the fans won't appreciate what's here. To me tho, it's probably the best game I've played since.. MGS4.

Thanks guys, hype restored, it's just that the last few pages were a little mixed compared to the big consensus of the beginning, happy to hear it doesn't get old or repetitive, that is my main concern.

And nbnt, I know it's a Twitch thing but not entirely sure what it means, you don't really think it is the best game since MGS4 right? I mean you think it's amazing, and MGS4 isn't (at least i want to believe you mean that ;P)

I wonder if the PC version will get lots of MODs made by fans.

I pre-ordered the PS4 version digitally,
but I'm going to double dip and get the PC version as well during Steam sale if the PC version gets a MOD like a remake of MGS1.

A remake of MGS1 with the Fox Engine would be a dream.

Spoilers below are incredibly insignificant. Just the title of a side op, one which has no bearing on the story whatsoever, and the name of a random location on the world map. Just thought I'd tag them to be on the right side of caution, but thought it was worth pointing out how minor they are.

Anyone done Side Op #62 -
Unlocky Dog 02
? It's at
Da Smasei Laman, the fort built into the mountain. I'm meant to rescue a prisoner, but can't find him anywhere.
Anyone know where he is? I've been trying to find him for ages, and it's starting to drive me mad.

No I truly do think it's the best game I've played since MGS4, and I do think MGS4 is amazing, my favorite game of last gen in fact. What I meant by the twitch emote is that I have some bias because MGS is my favorite franchise. :P

nbnt notlikethis. What about The Last of Us. :(

I thought you were cool.

I phoned Sony because it was saying pre-order payment failed despite there being £60 in my wallet ready for it and they said payment is being taken tonight for UK so preload might start after midnight or sometime tomorrow

What came of that? I'm looking at my download queue and despite the charge going through a few days ago, getting the theme, game, fatigues, cardboard box, two of the other items are listed as pre-order payment failed (both xp boost & s333 shield). Just wondering what they said, not really worth my time to call them on these two things.

Member Valentine71 attempted to spoil the twist in the game for me earlier via psn message. If you have abysswalker71 in your psn friend list I advise ignoring messages from him or just removing him.

Absolute shitheel petty bullshit mate. Worth noting that I wasn't the only guy to get the spoiler message

One of the very few people on my ignore list, worth contacting a mod if they try that on GAF.

Haha, well, TLoU is my second favorite game of last gen. :P

OK now I'm mixed, on one hand you think MGS4 is amazing and is the best game last gen, which make me question your opinion on MGS5 and if I will like it. (at least you like MGS1 2 3 more plz?)

On the other hand you really like TLOU, and I too think that game is a masterpiece, don't know what to think :P

So I live in South Florida and have Monday off for work due to flash flooding warnings from the storm Erika... motherfuck why couldn't it be Tuesday.

Instead now I'm just gonna think about MGSV all day on Monday and then have to go back to work once I can actually play it.

I've beaten the entire series, but a lot of my friends haven't and are buying the game or have received free Nvidia codes. Does the game adequately explain MGS3, Peace Walker, or even Ground Zeroes for first time players, or no?

I thought I had nothing planned on Wednesday, but I have to go to my campus to take a previous knowledge test that is online and not graded. Wasting 3 hours of my time to find out nothing.

Dude, one guy says positive stuff about the game - > hype is back

Another guy says something negative -> hype is gone

My advice: just play the game and form your own opinion.

I was just joking in the post you quoted (mostly), and I'm trying to pass the time until the release, of course I will form my own opinion.

Don't worry, I do think that MGS1, 2 and 3 (my favorite) are better than 4. :P

45 hours in I played a contender for my favourite mission in the game. It's super effective.

Good job, MGSV.

Is that more to how you played it, or the scenario presented. The one thing that worries me is the lack of what it is you are infiltrating/attacking. I've seen vary little variation in all the game play videos for what you go after. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Caverns, underground facilities, mountain top bunkers or something? I dunno.

Honestly, you will not be disappointed. The particular mission I'm talking about I liked for the scenario's atmosphere, though. It's really well done.

so far, unlocking stuff hasn't been an issue. The only weapon i've come across with a timer was the Adamska you get with the day 1 edition. Everything else has been 0 minutes.

For those who have the game, are cut-scenes nicely directed? Is the camera movement and placement as cinematic as other games?

How's the cinematography? Are there many close-ups?

Is it a good weapon?

no idea. I've been using the standard WU tranq pistol and starting rifle because they have suppressors.

[edit[Ricky i'm liking them so far. They're generally unobstructive and get to the point. No waffling like you got with past MGS games where snake seemed completely ignorant of everything ever and had to have things explained like he failed his GCSEs. The music is working so well, too.

The bases really are superbly designed. It feels great both to progress little by little through the main path and discovering a less guarded side path to ghost and S-Rank the mission.

EDIT: Side Ops 46 question
I can't find the sheep :(

I don't understand how so many people got it early.

Reading this thread is torture. :(

With a game like MGSV you have to put Rockstar Games like restrictions on its release. Konami dropped the ball. Heck, in a lot of ways like marketing it seems like they are dropping the ball. Seems like they didn't want to put the money behind ensuring a good launch; with MGS4 they did a world tour, for instance.

Anyone else noticed the glitchy sky in
africa
? It keeps flickering from green to black

I got a weird dithering effect
in the sky but only for the first mission there.

Is it worth preordering for the bonus? I should get getting a 10% off coupon from PS store soon, so been waiting for that...
