Can't watch the video atm. Did they mention a release date/window by any chance? And will it have matchmaking or any kind of ability to join people's games at random when they have an empty spot on their team?

This looks way better than you'd think given the vitriol. MGSV gameplay mechanics with streamlined MGS3 survival elements that affect gameplay, CO-OP where we can choose and customize our gender, and without the misogyny and sexism of the main game? Sign me up if it reviews well. :D

a lot of people in this thread talking definitively about what Kojima would and wouldn't do like he's their best bud or something

you guys need to take a step back

My initial reaction was sighing and sadness... but after seeing this, it really is the best way to keep making metal gear without kojima. Make it an alternate reality/timeline/ whatever, it doesnt affect any of kojimas stuff, and can still carry on the same spirit. Looks really fun, I love the hell out of MGSV, and being able to play that same thing in co op with survival elements sounds pretty great to me

It's some really strange form of projecting. I mean for all they know this is something that was abandoned during the concept phase of the skulls and shit and that they brought Kojima's vision to life. `\_(ツ)_/¯

Sexism in the main game?

i dont like zombie stuff myself but watched the whole 15 minutes and i quite liked it, i dont know if it was the narrator's voice though that made it look even better than it is

Sexism in the main game?
You want me to start with the barely dressed mute female sniper named QUIET or the barely dressed who died via a bomb exploding in her vagina after days of torture and rape who you can collect gravure style anime pictures of to hang on the walls of your base?

A similar narration took us through some missions in MGSV and definitely made things seem a lot cooler.

I liked mgsv, but yeah, not touching this. It's going to die a quick death not unlike the rest of the copy cat weird games of a similar genre.

WHAT

THE

FUCK

Is this for fucking real? They are so fucking close to making the perfect zombie game, and they waste it on the fucking MGS universe in the middle of a god damn desert environment!?

Like, I'm actually dumb struck right now. They have the Fox Engine and the base gameplay of the best stealth game ever, and decide to go ahead and make a zombie game.

You have the perfect core mechanics already done, they are fucking made in a pre-packaged box for you, it's literally the thing that every big survival game lacks, and you decide to fuck up the entire environmental/survival aspect of it?

Just make a city, just make one god damn city. Spend a fucking year making a city environment and some suburban outskirts, design a complex, but manageable medic system and food/thirst system, a farming system, a engineer system, and you have 70% of the best zombie/survival game ever. I mean fuck, they even have a god damn barricade system!

I know this post seems like someone going insane, because it is. All my life I've wanted an open world zombie game that actually really simulates a zombie apocalypse. The Last of Us was as close as I got to that game in terms of mechanics, and Project Zomboid is as close as I've gotten with an open world rogue like with extremely in-depth medical/food/health systems with an insanely large map

They literally have the ability to combine the two and they aren't doing it.

If it's anything like MGSV, we should get a translated version of the demo (narration-wise, at least) after TGS.

Hey they might be thinking of that too. This is probably like the way Cod Zombies came about. They are thinking of it as a bonus experiment game that could become a stand alone franchise at some point.

Not this again. lol
Not this thread too, we all know what it will spiral into. Nooooooooooooooo. It's not pretty for anyone

A city environment means a much bigger budget. I assume they did what they could in the allotted time.

Everything about it looks cheap, soulless and disjointed. And it's even more aggravating 'cause it could have actually worked: a game that combines a post-apocalyptic world with the gameplay of MGS looks like a cool idea on paper. However, based on that video, the setting is completely uninspired and dull - which doesn't surprise me, as they're just recycling assets, instead of trying to create something new and adequate for the kind of game they're making - and they're focusing on gameplay aspects of Metal Gear which I really don't appreciate.

It's definitely better than Metal Gear Pachinko, though.

I mean are we really not gonna call a duck a duck?
That discussion should be saved for the other countless threads. The thread will just turn to madness, don't you think? So far, kojima, quiet and paz have nothing to do with this game. But, i agree with your sentiments that it shows promise. Hopefully, we get a beta or something. I will definitely be paying attention to how it reviews.

I think I would be less insulted if the setting wasn't literally Afghanistan where there's Diamond Dogs branded items and outfits. The game takes place in 1975, no alternate universe wormhole shit story could explain to me this.

You've already got dirtied up Mother Base outfits from Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, use that! Also, the Mother Base in the promo images is the Diamond Dog Mother Base, MSF's Mother Base was totally different design wise. Also I'm 99% certain the zombie being stuck in wooden spikes is the same animation from soldiers falling from higher up, just slowed way down.

There's recycling assets, then there's just straight up copy paste. This is shaping up to be the latter. Konami, you have assets to recreate Costa Rica and Nicaragua, why not make a game with that setting? Peace Walker takes place in Central America, return to that locale for Survive! Repeating what I said earlier, there's 0% logic with sending MSF soldiers through a wormhole to Afghanistan. Central America makes some sense. Hell even return to Camp Omega. Just take the improvements to the engine from Phantom Pain, and apply them to the setting and timeline of Peace Walker/Ground Zeroes.

If there's no Monster Hunter mode in this game I swear to christ.

That's not easy lol. That being said I'd pay 100 dollars for a real AAA survival game.

Im sorry but that actually looks really fun. It actually surpased what my initial expectations were from the announcement trailer. Being able to craft defenses is exactly what I want from this kind of game. All the additions theyve made to the MGSV gameplay mechanics look great too.

This is perfectly ok tbh.

Its a lot like a zombies expansion to mgs5(much like farcry 3 blood dragon or that RDR Zombies) and it looks like a lot of fun.

Konami sucks,yes,but this looks fun.

Nice post. I agree. There are so many words to sum up what this game looks like, but one can only dodge the term "phoned-in" for so long. Say what you will about Kojima and the twists and turns Metal Gear has taken over the years, but with maybe the exception of Metal Gear Touch, has anyone ever described the series as "cheap," "generic," or "a cash grab?" It would be news to me, if so. The Diamond Dogs Mother Base/gear is beyond insulting though, and the leading reason as to why my faith in this game delivering something fresh is nearly nonexistent. Why not, to your point, create a new setting or revisit one from the Big Boss timeline? Could you imagine defending Groznyj Grad against a horde of zombies and a Metal Gear/Shagohod? There isn't a scenario in which that couldn't be good. Their next showing really has to bring it, because I'm giving this game as fair a shake as I can, but it's on them to sell me and so far, they haven't done that.

Also, that's a really interesting catch regarding the zombie's animation. I'll have to take a look at that. Monster Hunter missions would be cool, especially in this alternate universe, but I think the chances of a third party wanting to jump on the grenade that is Metal Gear Survive are probably pretty slim at the moment.

This looks like a lot of fun with friends. The one thing I really wish MGSV had besides an actual ending was coop. Shame they took that away after having it in peace walker.

Probably not worth a new thread, but Kojima and Shinkawa did comment on Metal Gear Survive on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/KojiPro2015/status/777376213086064640
https://twitter.com/KojiPro2015/status/777376660240740352

The tweets are from the official Kojima Productions twitter account. Kojima says that he had heard that there is word going around on the net that Metal Gear Survive could been his idea before he left, and he cleared it up that it was not and that he has absolutely nothing to do with it and doesn't know anything about it. He further states that to him, Metal Gear was about espionage and political fiction, and that in such settings, it doesn't seem to fit to have zombies around. Shinkawa then chimes in that he also never heard of anything like this from Kojima, and that Metal Gear is supposed to be a bipedal weapon. Then they make a joke about how a Metal Gear where there is no Metal Gear would be.... the NES Metal Gear. :P

Oh wow, thanks for translating! Didn't expect them to comment on Survive.

On one hand, the chance to play a new game with the tight controls MGSV had on a $30 price tag and multiplayer PvE doesn't sound too bad. I wanted PvE MGSV Multiplayer when I felt how underwhelming MGO was.

On the other hand, I was very skeptical about the zombie aspect (would prefer PvE stealth against non-zombies), but this demo clearly shows they're recycling an entire area from the Afghanistan map in MGSV with some slight cosmetic changes, and that's a big red flag on it's own. They seriously didn't need to put the exact locations that appear whatever years into the future in MGSV, especially if this game takes place in some other dimension like the launch trailer leads to believe. Make some new wilderness or urban areas.

And if you look close, all the new animations look verrrry cheap. Look at the female that uses the bow and arrow. Or the dude doing a basic 3-slash combo with the machete. Did any attack animation from MGSV look so basic and clunky? I almost want to say the only reason those zombies have no face is to reduce the amount of animation work necessary on the title. So far, the most effort shown has got to be the short reveal trailer they whipped together.

Very curious to see what the finished game will end up being, given that I'm a huge fan of MGSV's gameplay but don't particularly prefer open-world survival games (especially early access types).

if it doesn't fit to have zombies around why'd he have zombies around

If it doesn't fit to have zombies in Metal Gear why did Kojima put zombies in two different MGS games?

So I got around to fully watching it after skimming the stream and while the concept of zombies is beyond stupid, it could be fun depending on how they go about it. I'm remaining highly skeptical though and have literally no hopes for it to be a decent game.

I just wish it was co-op on the hard difficulty settings with more guards etc. That would be fun, and if they're smart they'd make that an additional mode for the more stealth oriented players.

The thing that makes me sad is there being no main characters in here. If you're going to make MGS go the ridiculous zombie route you better let me use 'Kazahara MGS5 was 95% filler Miller.'

sure. they just look and act like zombies.

Well, we could argue about it all day, or we could just look at it practically and see that Kojima is basically saying that he wouldn't make a Metal Gear game where you have to guard against hoards of zombies attacking because the games are about espionage and political drama. MGS games also have immortals, vampires, psychics, and other stupid shit. :P
