It's the print/scan.. look at other coloured segments and you see the same grittyness.PolyGone said:I hope the pixelated shots we saw in recent scans were a result of aliased scaling/zooming... because they looked terrible

Well, post the other scan then.. because this is the only one I've seen.PolyGone said:gotta disagree with you, I believe I've seen a different scan somewhere and the characters looked like blobs (but it could be due to hardware scaling)...
DS exclusive from what I've read over the net. I was hoping to see old MS ports for the DS but damn...MrTroubleMaker said:Is this only going to be on the DS?

.September 21, 2007 - Okay, so the original Metal Slug 1 for the Game Boy Advance - announced for release like two years ago - still manages to be a no show, and will probably never exist now that the GBA is on its way out to pasture. No worries, as SNK Playmore is bringing the series to the Nintendo DS. But not the original Metal Slug like the Game Boy Advance version was going to be. No, this one's a full-on sequel: Metal Slug 7. And it was on display at the SNK Playmore booth during the Tokyo Game Show this week.
Honestly, there's not much to say, simply because no details were made available, and the playable version was so early in development it was running only a single screen with the second screen displaying the entire level map in a debug fashion. And no touch screen support of any kind. But you know what? It's definitely Metal Slug, and that's okay. The same balls-out side-scrolling shooter action with that same over-the-top energy - all the same stuff that's made the series such a success in the arcade and in the home.
The game did have that overwhelming feeling that it was emulating a previous version instead of being an original IP. Even though the Metal Slug series officially capped off at Number 6 until the Nintendo DS version came around, subtle clues indicated that the version that SNK Playmore had on display was emulating an older version mostly in the game's resolution: the visuals seemed "shimmery" and not native to the DS screen, as if a higher resolution version was being rescaled to the Nintendo DS system's 256x192 display. I can't be entirely sure since I hadn't familiarized myself with the series prior to the hands-on.
It was a short demo, but it did its job: it got the word out that Metal Slug is on the way to the Nintendo DS.

looks like filtered/resized scans that are then jpegged to death.PolyGone said:

You really shouldn't judge the game based on that.
EctoPrime said:I sure didn't , the swarming enemies, zooming and poorly made backgrounds that just didn't fit with the low res sprites made me really hate it. I would rank it as on par with 4 and 5.
Jackson said:oooh very nice.... i didnt even play 6 yet
Which is why I said "resized".. it's possible to resize a scan to be native DS resolution and still look nothing like it will on a real DS.PolyGone said:they're 256x192, just like the official screens we've seen for FF4DS and others :/

Hehe, thank you.. I have no intentions of changing my avatar right now though. Nor do I consider myself being a part of any "Metal Slug Defence Force", it's worth noting that I never said you were wrong.. I just didn't think it was a good idea to judge the game from bad screenshots.PolyGone said:![]()
I made this for you, Lee N![]()

Wait till they've polished the game a bit more before giving a judgement but yeah, a MS7 for the arcades and DS would have rassured me about the quality of the game.drohne said:BLEH
ds obviously isn't an ideal platform for the next metal slug, but i was willing to give this a chance, particularly since i loved metal slug 6. now i'm basically just hoping they change the title to 'metal slug ds,' as they did with yoshi's island. they're still doing arcade versions of kof and samsho -- metal slug deserves the same
