Metro: Last Light (New Gameplay footage/ interview)

Depends on how powerful the WiiU is.

Metro 2033 is still demanding on top of the line rigs at times...

and LL will be much improved graphically.

Though the WiiU will have the benefit of being a closed platform and launching after the rest.

I want to see how far these guys will be able to push the machine. Hope they make good use of the extra time.

2033 featured one of my favourite FPS campaigns in recent memory, I loved the atmosphere and all the little systems one managed throughout (the military-grade ammunition versus the homemade stuff, rationing gas masks, etc). I'm definitely interested in seeing what they do with Last Light.

The Wii U version should be on par with the PC game on max settings, correct?

Depends. At E3 last year, I would have told you yes for sure.

But with the rumors of the Wii U being scaled back and being "just a bit stronger than PS3/360", I'm not so sure. We will know Tuesday, June 5th.

Hopefully they dont listen to the bullshit complains some people made. Armor on enemies was easy enough to shoot around and get 1-2 hit kills. You dont aim at a persons helmet/mask you would aim at their exposed neck. Ammo was plentiful even on the hardest of difficulties. Some people spray like idiots and then complain the game was impossible.

they removed it citing these very complaints.

They already patched in Ranger mode on 2033 because a lot of those complaints.

I wonder what they will do to get PS3 gamers up to speed with the story......probebly nothing.

But it would be cool if the devs added the line of code to allow us to use Move and headtracking like Datura.....seems it would be perfect for this game.

people will hate this, but I hope the xbox and PC versions can work with kinect.

it would be cool if you had to use your hand to wipe the mask, instead of a button

Wasn't Metro 2033 extremely demanding on PC hardware when it came out? Basically a russian Crysis?

If that's still the case with this one then no, absolutely not.

iirc the wiiu is just using a 4870- even a GTX 680 can not hold 60fps at max (dx11 etc), 1920x1080, much less a 4870.

I'm only guessing but I somehow don't expect Wii U to push tessellation and stuff like that, at least not at launch. But it probably should do everything else, like the volumetric lighting etc. But that's just a guess, we really have no clue beyond some devs saying that their ports will obviously look like ports since nobody's going to spend the resources to make one version of the game on one yet unproven system (and the PC where they already don't enhance ports much most of the time) that much better looking beyond easy to implement things like resolution frame rate and various filtering features. Exact specs talk has been pure speculation afaik.

I wouldn't hate it and i don't even have a 360.....i wish more devs would use Kinect for like head tracking for these types of games.....if there could be more 3D in FPS for the 360, even if its the crysis kind, i'd get one just to hook up my HMZ to it.

Game looks incredible, 4A has an amazing engine in their hands.

Really curious to see console footage...hopefully in a week. :P

Now I wanna go and play through 2033 again. I love the atmosphere that the Metro games have. The game looks so damn pretty, and the level of immersion they can get from the environmental design is incredible.

VG247 preview

Metro: Last Light is an evocative and moody first-person shooter with survival horror aspirations set against the bleak backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world. Like its predecessor, Metro 2033, the majority of the action takes place in the titular Russian metro system but Last Light also features a greater focus on the ruined over-world, which has allowed Ukrainian developer 4A Games to go to town on depicting a world gone to hell.

IGN Preview

Exploration is Metro's greatest strength. Moving through the tunnels of Moscow’s underground subway system, you’ll use a lighter to see where you’re going (or a flashlight if you’re fortunate enough to find a charge). There’s a real sense of terror moving through the dark, never knowing what you’ll find around each corner. If you’re lucky, you’ll come across some supplies, maybe a shotgun. If you’re not, you’ll find mutant spiders bursting out of a corpse.

Awesome read!

I cant wait to get my hands on this with my new upgraded rig. I think I'm actually gonna skip this game altogether on 360, unless the multiplayer component is good.

Venturebeat preview

“Are you mourning the death of first-person shooter single-player campaigns?” asked Huw Benyon, head of communications for THQ in the first presentation of the game for journalists since it was unveiled a year ago. “This is our bid to combat shooter fatigue. We are crafting a single-player experience that players will remember for years to come. Metro Last Light is more than just a shooter.”

Visuals are awesome but it looks like more of the same. The guy's critique of gameplay in other games was kind of ironic, because 2033 did the same and it seems this game will be no different.

That's what direct sequels usually are. And in this case it's a great awesome thing too.

I liked the game but in the end the story was forgettable. The gameplay consisted of mainly lineair pathways with cheating AI or waves of monsters to be fought off. Not to mention the crappy gunplay. I´ll have to be convinced by extended gameplay or a demo before getting exited.

Most AI cheats and most FPS are linear, including some of the most loved, like the Half-Life series. The game never promised to be STALKER or something, maybe you should look into those games instead. I thought the atmosphere was superb and the gunplay fine. I only found minor issues with the game, like the character modeling and the second rail shooter sequence (I thought the first was fitting for that part of the game and it didn't last long anyway). But hey, you don't have to agree and you definitely don't have to buy the sequel, I'm just saying, more of the same is the whole point of sequels. Improvements are of course welcome and often expected if there were glaring issues with the previous games. I too hope they've expanded on the less scripted aspects, without altogether removing those, but that wouldn't make it not more of the same, it's just a desired slight shift in focus, that likely won't affect my purchasing decision if the game retains what made the original great for me, ie, the atmosphere and solid gameplay.

I really hope they improve the gameplay and voice-acting. The gunplay in 2033 was pretty terrible and sneaking felt broken (i.e. hiding behind a dozen of boxes still being spotted). It also seemed like everyone was voiced by one American dude trying to replicate a Russian accent.
Even with all that it was a pretty cool game so I'm looking forward to this one.

Edit: The voice-acting in the previews sounds just as terrible as in 2033. :/
