I grabbed Metro Redux for PS4 during Amazon's terrible sale (15% off WH) and I'm having a problem with the NPC volume, unless I'm close enough to lick their face the voice volume is extremely low. Is it like this for everyone or is it something to do with my soundbar settings?

Nah the game is like that. It's my biggest problem with the game. You have to directly look at them to understand everything

Might be a soundbar issue, i have a bravia with built in soundbar and dont remember any issues like that. Maybe try adjusting audio settings in the game, some games have separate settings for soundbar, 5.1, built-ins, etc. Cant remember if Metro had them though.

Btw, this game was MADE for a good set of headphones

For example I'm sitting on the same rail car as the NPC, he's 2ft from me but if I turn my back on him suddenly I go deaf. It's driving me crazy.

This was never the problem with me as I use Russian voices for maximum immersion with english subtitles.

But I don't know if the voices are silent only with english ones, because I never had a hard time to figure out who was talking.

Edit: Is this Metro 2033 or Metro: Last Light we are talking about?

2033.

Sounds like its trying to play on speakers that aren't hooked up. In this case, trying to play on surround speakers. Never owned a sound bar before so I don't know how you'd fix that, but if you can force it to use stereo, you won't need subtitles.

Could it be trying to play in 7.1 and your sound bar only supports 5.1?

The soundbar is only 2.1, it should be in stereo.

Then it sounds likely its trying to play in 5.1. I played Metro 2033 redux on my PS4 about a week ago without any issues like this, in 2.1.

At work so I can't look, but there should be some sound settings on the PS4 where you can filter out some options. I think the PS4 auto-selects the best option, so if it thinks 5.1 is possible for some reason it can select it.

Try Linear PCM, do you have the option of setting 2.1? If you can't set it on your PS4, you'll have to check for some settings on your sound bar or TV. Whatever your PS4 is connected to via HDMI is telling the PS4 it can support 5.1 (in this case I guess the TV).

You could temporarily try hooking up the soundbar directly to the PS4 and see if the issue still occurs.

You can only set options if you set optical as the input, not hdmi. But I seem to have fixed it by playing with the soundbar options.

I have to say I'm not enjoying the game though, it's so slow and random deaths are annoying. I'm on chapter 5 ATM so hopefully it gets better.

Glad to hear you figured it out.

Really enjoyed Metro 2033, the pacing suited it pretty well. I like slow-paced games like that.

Not sure what the random deaths is about, are you forgetting to put on your gas mask or something? Chapter 5 is actually pretty far into the game, unless you mean mission 5..

I just did the stealth bit followed by the trolley combat. I'm not that far into the game so probably mission 5. I dunno man, just seems like all I do is creep around trying not to be seen or I just follow around NPCs and run into the occasional pack of monsters. I guess I just want to fuck shit up :D
