I will never say Aran as 'Erin.' Sorry, but decades of mispronouncing her name can't be forgotten just like that.
Why would it be mispronouncing? Because someone in MP3 dubbing stated it that way?

There's very few room for mispronouncing japanese language, so I'll take official japanese spelling over english dubbing, should I choose one.

I pronounce it:

Sah-moos Ah-ran

Have always said Zeebs though.. :/
I don't know how you could be saying "Sah-moos" all these years and not always picture antlers jutting out from her Power Suit helmet.

That second pic is the most epic metroid playing atmosphere ever.

I know this probably isn't the case, but with all this talks of past and present stuff, I wonder if we'll travel to Zebes via some flashback or something. Maybe that lava scene is actually Samus recalling Norfair, though I don't know how that'd work with the whole having to carry over upgrades thing.

By the way, did the demo at one point call it Zeb-ess? I'll adopt it only if it's officially said in game. For now, it's Zeebs. :p

And also, I want to play Other M in that room.

You know, I hate the title "Other M," it sounds like some project codename that carried through somehow. Why not call it something like The Adventures of Samus Aran and That Other Guy?

The ship scenes mechanically did nothing except replace the elevators with a "hub" elevator, similar to the light beams in Prime 2. This made backtracking a lot less bothersome, but it was a little too streamlined. I think Prime 2 had THE most perfectly connected map of any game, Metroid or otherwise. The beams + elevators +dark/light world shortcuts were so awesomely balanced that there are almost always multiple ways to backtrack.

Seriously? I thought the lack of interconnection between areas was like the one thing Echoes didn't do as well as Prime. Echoes is very clearly a hub with three main areas. There are some shortcuts between the areas that you gain access to a little later on, but it's nowhere near the spiderwebs that Prime and Super were.

I'm more partial to The Adventures of Samus Aran and Remember Me? But you're right, Other M is a terrible subtitle.

Its so fucking fucked there's no videos of this. What the fuck.

I've always pronounced "Samus Aran" as "Sam-us Erin". That always seemed the logical pronunciation.

Baby Metroid=M
Other M = Malkovich
:lol

Edit: In this game, Malkovich will sacrifice his life for Samus.

Prime? Prime is my favourite, but the Magmoor Y-shaped corridor connects pretty much everything. Anytime you want to go anywhere in Prime, you usually have to go through Magmoor. Every area in Prime 2 is connected to every other area, much like an aforementioned spiderweb. The endgame item collecting for a %100 run is much more enjoyable because of this.
Honestly, go back and play Prime 1 again and pay attention to Magmoor. You'll have to go back and forth through it so many times throughout the game.

You know, I always knew Samus's story and her background and all that. But I never really realized how true it is that everyone that gets close to her dies. I mean EVERYBODY. It's not even like there's someone following her around finding out who she gets close to and then making sure they get killed. She's either the unluckiest person who has ever lived, or is cursed by some unexplained cosmic force. Even animals are not safe. I'm surprised the monkey and ostrich looking things that helped her in Super and Fusion haven't contracted some crazy space virus that doesn't affect humans and Samus was the carrier.

Do you guys say Prime (long I, silent e) or Pri-me (long ee sound for the i, long A sound for the e). I'm trying to find how anal/uptight some of you are.

I prefer to call it "Le Primé, le".

Isn't Samus part Chozo? Maybe the space virus kills humans too! :lol

As frustrated as I am by this inexplicable Other M media embargo, I've gotta hand it to Nintendo.

When they want something to stay secret, that fucker stays secret.

I don't think I've ever come across a company as good at preventing corporate espionage as Nintendo. It's really quite amazing.

I don't really care what the mean of the M in Other M, it's just a terrible fucking subtitle. None of the other subtitles in the series sound even remotely as dumb. I'm still anticipating the shit out of this, but I'm going to refer to it as "The New Metroid" or something

Metroid: Another Mother would sound too much like a blaxploitation flick you see.

NEW Super Metroid Sisters Wii?

So does the "M" in Other M mean Metroid? Mother? Master
Cheif??
Trust me this game is based on Haloid!
This always happens. I forget Monty Oum is a real person who exists and then someone goes ahead and mentions Haloid and Dead Fantasy and then all I think about for the 4 months is Sniper Rounds bouncing off of Jackal shields, Bomb Chestplates, the Power Suit not being able to withstand one hit from the Covenant Energy Sword, and Tifa literally getting the Materia beat out of her by some blind chick and then later is apparently killed or almost killed by ninjas.

So thanks.

Now THAT sounds f***ing terribly generic, glad you aint title-ing the game.

Other M fits perfectly and brings a lot of questions.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that Other M refers to Mother in some way, be it Samus' real mother or Mother Brain.
Samus's real mother was a stay-at-home mom and her real dad was a miner. Her real parents aren't anything interesting.

Isn't Samus part Chozo?
According to the official story, and as far as I know, no, she isn't.

Her parents, Virginia and Rod, are human. They were killed when she was very young by a space pirates raid, Ridley killing himself her mother that tried to protect Samus.

When the chozo, who came on the planet to collect ore that were mined there, found everyone dead, they decided to take Samus with them.

I've never read anything official about chozo blood in Samus.

Not blood, but Chozo DNA.
From Gray Voice, iirc.

I have. When she was taken to Zebes the Chozo infused her with their DNA so she could survive there.

Oh, yes... When I saw the previous post, I thought about Samus being half-chozo by ancestors. Wasn't thinking to post-birth adjustment when the question was rised.

They indeed made DNA adjustment on Samus, and yes, that could fit an immunity to the "deadly virus"... if chozo themselves had been lucky enough to survive (or have they?) :lol

Thanks for correction.

"Lots of questions", or just "what does the M stand for?"?
Does someone have the japanese original disc system game to check what's said during the ending?

The translation talk about the "other metroid", and I'm still not convinced that they were talking about anything related to SR388/Zebes. And if Chozo created the metroids in the past, they may very well have created another species later. Even from Samus DMA, if you want to see something in the title (be it "M:OM" or "M other")

Ahaha what happened last night. All I remember is I took a sleeping pill and played a little more of Metroid Prime then random NES games or something and fell asleep. Woke up with my NES and fake Famicom on the floor along with various NES games. If you want me to finish Prime sometime Anihawk, just PM or reply and I can do that sometime. If not, then I can link you a real run to the game and/or if you decide you want to try some of the stuff I did, we can do that sometime too.
